Interesting F&S article by David Petzal on respecting your quarry
Early replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
Oh, God: I am going to cry! You guys who use trail cameras, hi-tech weapons and ammo, hunt over food plots (aka bait piles) and then claim to "respect" your quarry are NUTS! All of your "cover my ass" arguments are simply bull! Hey...I go hunting...if I score, I celebrate...Big deal! If I had a great deal of "respect" for the game animals I hunt...I would not hunt them. You apologist hunters should give up your guns and join PETA! -
It is fairly easy to find polyester LJ's that have anti-microbial treatment to prevent odors. Forget Under Armour, despite their brilliant marketing strategy: Too expensive!! Best buy w/great performance is Comfortrel from Sierra Trading Post.

See if this makes sense to you

Scary stuff, but to a large degree TRUE! In the news recently: Police shoot and kill a l07 yr. old man....Police celebrate with High-fives and tasered teen dies on the ground....Unarmed man shot ten times by cop dies ....and on and on ad nauseum! With the militarizing of police forces, such will only get worse! -
Loved cusehunter's reply, "As far as I can see 'em!"...Yep, that's why I like the 12 ga.!!!
-
I'm going to borrow troutfisher's gun. If he won't give it up, I'll go with my 40 yr. old Ithaca Deerslayer 12 ga. with the factory open sights.....Deer, beware!!

You can find a de-glosser in the paint dept. at your local hardware store; simply wipe away the shine!

Which side of the fence are you on?

Do you mean ALL the Democrats?....Every last one of them? (That's what you said. How could you know?) -

I'll take but little offense at being called a Democrat (I'm not!) Hell, someone could have called me a Catholic! Question: I'n not a Republican, so I must ask: Are they all narrow-minded? -

No....Once again, you are making a very broad generalization. -

I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat. For the most part, I like Jeff Foxworthy, but....Blanket statements like these are NEVER true! -
We (my son and grandsons) hope to fill two, maybe three tags per year. The tags we fill...we eat. Guys who fill tags and don't eat them are just looking for bragging rights. Yep...That includes those who claim to donate to the hungry. Really, if you aren't going to eat them...Don't shoot them!!!!

Bird hunting dog - 2 year old rotty vs 11 year old lab
Early replied to Vince1's topic in General Hunting
Before I had a hunting dog of my own, I would unchain my neighbor's 800 lb. German shepherd, appropriately named, SARGE and take him along on my forays for grouse, pheasant and rabbits. Sarge had a helluva nose: I'd send him in one direction with the command, "Find a bird!"....He'd romp away, and I'd move out on a parrallel path. He rather regularly flushed game that came in my direction, and I even whacked a bird/rabbit or two. The real fun came when Sarge and I engaged in some rather testy discussion to decide who would get to eat the bird/rabbit. Hell, any dog can hunt. It is we hunters who struggle at it rather clumsily! -
You make a good point: Dogs can be much easier to train than wives! Since I always used, "NO!" to stop bad behavior, I never used "Whoa" as a command. Remember: A dog is a dog, not a hi-tech robot. A dog that is a bit hard-headed and mistake prone can still be a great hunting dog. If you want perfection, go buy a remote controlled electric dog.

Confused....Nope! Just taking Doc at what he says! He is a government supporter and apologist....A dangerous guy! If I were to sit down and have a beer with him, I would be constantly looking over my shoulder! -

Interesting side-by-side photos of Obama going around: In one he declares that we should send weapons to the Syrian rebels so they can better fight their government that does not represent them. In the other he declares that there is absolutely no reason that any American needs an assault weapon. Hmmm.....Think about that for awhile. Our government, which Doc so believes in and strongly supports, seeks to disarm American civilians while at the same time arming govt. forces (read: police forces at all levels) to the teeth with the latest military assault gear. Does that sound like America...or more like some foreign dictatorship? -
When compared...side-by-side with the 88, the BLR is UGLY! And, with it's two piece stock, the BLR cannot compare with the 88 when it comes to accuracy. Plus...the 88 was made in the USA....That's a definite plus!!

No, I don't always hunt the wind, but when I don't...I am never successful!

I have a l960 vintage Winchester 88 in .308...Awesome gun. And, it is a tack driver, thanks to the one-piece stock. The only lever gun I would prefer over it would be the model 88 carbine.

This "Doc" guy sure is a character...a perfect example of a government rat: "Oh no, sir, I have no guns, but I can point out the homes of those who do!" -

You are the one, Doc, who is fantasizing: Your assumptions, based on what I and others have posted here are astounding. Your "Holier Than Thou" attitude stinks! Sheesh....If our rights and freedoms depended on guys like you, we would have been loaded in the cattle cars long ago! -

Our "system of government" which you so believe in now includes hi-tech surveillance of private citizen communication...unjust laws hastily passed...highly militarized govt. police forces...reduction in civil liberty...etc, etc. It is the right of every American citizen to question/challenge the government. And, yet, you call them "internal terrorists". What is wrong with you?
