  1. Real nice grow... Can't wait to get upstate. I hope the weather changes for Saturday!
  2. What about using one of those plastic kid sleds??
  3. I do the same with a sliced onion and then mix in some Baby Ray's at the end. The flavor is incredible!!
  4. Good luck today!!! I remember how excited I was to find out with my first!!! When the doctor told me I was having a girl I was in shock!!! lol I have two kids now, my daughter who's 9 and my son who's 6. My daughter is definitely more into hunting than my son but he's still young. I brought her out with me during my last turkey hunt this year. She was such a trooper. It was raining and cold that day, but she never complained once!!! Either way you will have a hunting partner for life!
  5. Doc, the point that I am trying to make is that most people work very hard to make their property better deer habitat. I travel four hours every weekend, spend a fortune on gas and tolls, get three sits in and then turn around and head home. The next opportunity I get to hunt is the following weekend due to my hectic work schedule. So when I am hunting I want to see deer. I don't feel bad if my neighbor is too lazy to spend the time over the summer cutting in trails, planting trees, and putting in food plots. In regards to food plotters hoarding the deer, my friend and I bring up someone different with us every weekend to share in the experience and hopefully keep the tradition of hunting alive. I planted five acres of plots on 85 acres. Last year my father and a friend took a deer each. I did not harvest a doe so they could. If its legal / ethical and will improve hunting for myself, family, and friends then I am ok with it!!
  6. Can I hunt on your property this season???
  7. This whole area was suppose to be corn but only a quarter acre took. If you guys remember I didn't get the corn in till mid June. The rest of the plot was planted with tall time turnips. This is the view from my stand. Still not sure why all my pictures always go in sideways when they are uploaded???
  8. Looks great!!! Hopefully your hard work will pay off this year.
  9. On a side note I hunted black bear in Maine last year over bait and did not see a single bear all week. There were three bears taken that week out of 12 hunters. Our guides said that it's incredibly difficult to hunt bear over bait when there's a bumper crop of berries. Animals are going to seek out food of choice and that may not include the bait that some may use.
  10. They had sharp shooters come to the East end of Long Island to manage the deer. These sharp shooters had rifles, hunted at night, and used bait. They were extremely ineffective!!! I don't think using bait is a guarantee for anything. Especially a mature deer.
  11. I definitely enjoy food plotting. I have seen my deer numbers increase from year to year as well as getting more bucks on the cams. With that being said, I would like to be able to use mineral sites during the off season. I think they would be beneficial in surveying my property as well aiding in the nutrition of the deer herd. Many episodes of Growing Deer TV with Grant Woods speaks to all the benefits. However, I don't think I would use corn feeders to hunt over. Would I see more deer... Probably. Would I be able to shoot the big 8 because of the corn feeders? I don't think so!!!
  12. Clover looks great!! I'd love to see a bear on my cams!!
  13. I'll be hunting my 85 acres in 4f and my uncles 30 acres in 4a. I'm going to also hunt the Rocky Point Preserve this year which is 5 minutes from my house. Never hunted state land before but I figured I'd give it a shot???
  14. I keep my phone in my chest pocket for safety like others mentioned. I also like to know what others are seeing during the longer sits. Last year I started to take some pictures and videos of deer while in the stand. This definitely helped me let some deer walk and it also stops a lot of the bs back at camp with your buddies if you have some pics. My phone is always kept on silent.
  15. This topic was actually mentioned on "Growing Deer TV" this week. They suggest doing it now to cut down on sound and scent. They also weed wacked the paths. Pretty interesting episode.
  16. Definitely impressed with the quality of the pictures taken. The field in front of the camera was suppose to be corn but the farmer got the corn in too late and it really didn't make it. The field will be planted with whitetail institutes winter greens next week.
  17. I've been shooting at Thrill if the Hunt in Suffolk County. I shoot with a three pin sight set for 20, 30, and 40 yards. With this sight I have to use gap shooting and I am seriously considering getting a HHA sight. Anyone have any experience with it? I like the idea of dialing in the exact yardage but I'm unsure of how practical this is for actual hunting.
  18. Maybe something as simple as the air filter? I just changed it in my own lawn mower.... It was running but felt like half power. Popped in a new one and good as new. Worth a shot for 7 bucks.
