That statement bears merit. Give the DEC some credit for publishing a plan. It is better than nothing! Hopefully the DEC can find the funding to implement the plan and adjust it as best as they see fit.

Propaganda works for both sides of the argument to further ones agenda. What is lacking is impartiality based upon objective criteria.

Nevertheless, the DEC needs to be proactive when it comes to managing the deer herd in NY. The writing is on the wall, hunter participation is on the decline and deer numbers are rising. Imagine what would happen if the DEC sat idly by. ???

I'm thinkin' Bill.. If more hunters were like some of you old timers... we wouldn't need mandates to get things done in the hunting world... my Dad sure never needed the DEC to tell him when to take me hunting You need to consider the latest DEC plan more thoroughly.

Doc, Times have changed. For a variety of reasons hunter numbers will continue to fall and will ultimately bottom out despite anyones best efforts. Any and all new plans proposed by the DEC to recruit new hunters are a worthwhile endeavor to help offset the enevitible decline in hunter numbers. The good old days are just that, good old days never to be recaptured. The DEC's biggest problem is meeting the requirements of their mandate. You can be sure, that the DEC will make every effort to succeed despite how unpopular such efforts seem to a vocal minority.

Actually, you are missing the point!

First of all, The DEC cannot accurately estimate the deer population within a given DMU nor can they determine the carrying capacity of the habitat. Sooner rather than later we will hear a crash. Before implementing their plans, I believe that the DEC should effectively (by any proven scientific method) survey the deer population in each DMU and consider the effect each population has on the habitat. As it stands, these plans are just that, plans without a purpose which do not benefit the deer nor the deer hunters.

Lets wait and see if the Grand Jury indicts her.

Good Point. Think about this, as a gun owner I believe that a uniform set of laws can be much more easily enforced and more effectively defended by the gun lobby and all progun individuals to protect our second amendment rights. The present system is broken, gun owners are divided, the anti gun lobby can pick and choose their battles. What is needed is a line in the sand which we as gun owners (majority) can agree upon. I for one would defend such a position.

Was out fluke fishing this morning in Deb's Inlet with my neighbor and caught and carefully released nearly 20 short fluke between 12 and 20 inches. I hope the fish survive.

I fish for striped bass off Long island NY and it is apparent that the current regulations have resulted in high grading. Big fish are no longer plentiful. J hooks should be outlawed as they contribute to the mortality of undersized fish.

This is what I am waiting for. How the heck they are going to explain his having a rather large and elaborate compound 60 miles from the Pakistan capital while they were telling us that they had no info that he was even in their country ..... that is going to be quite an interesting tale. What will be even more interesting is whether the U.S. government will press the issue (publicly). This is most likely just another example of us giving away millions in foriegn aid, building up a country that harbors and supports our enemies. You want some cash to help balance our budget? ..... This might be a good place to look for some. Ah but then, these decisions are never so easy and obvious are they? I have read reports of them criticizing us for it, then others that they are glad it happened. I say F Pakistan. They knew he was there, you have to be really dumb to think they didnt. CNN had their ex-president on the phone today and he was trying to say he had never said that Bin Laden was not in Pakistan. He has been on record saying just that more than once. That country needs to pay, in one way or another, for harboring him. We originally said that if we caught a country harboring him that they would pay the piper. We should cut all ties with them and let India have their way with them. You forget, Pakistan possess nuclear weapons as does India.

He could have been dumped into the sea in a few days or a in a couple of weeks. Of all people we surely didn't have to abide by Muslim tradition for this guy. To me it just doesn't make sense dumping his body so quickly when we were pursuing him for 10 long years and even went to war in Afghanistan to find him and destroy his organization.
