liar you will still be in here. The way I see it, every hunter does their own form of management. They just dont do it like the book says to. The deer herd is healthy in NY, so what is the big deal? I guess agree to disagree and go forth and hunt. Am I for AR umm nope. Do I choose which deer I harvest? well obviously. I don't have a guy over my shoulder saying no this ones g2 is not long enough or he is not symmetrical enough. I decide and only I decide if I harvest the deer and which deer I harvest for my own personal reasons. Call me a liar or say you aren't buying it, but that is me, and every other hunter. For me to expect all hunters to conform to how I hunt in at best unrealistic and mostly not enforcible. As I have stated, I could care less about antler size. I have taken some very nice racks, but they were attached to a big bodied deer. I have never had a rack scored, nor do I display them proudly on my kill wall. I would shoot a big bodied 8 over a huge rack 10 that is not as big a deer. I go out in quest of 200's all the time. But again that is pounds not inches. I have pics in an album of deer I have taken. I guess as I see it, I do not need to feed my ego and have bragging rights to have taken the biggest rack. I judge my trophies by body size, and hunt accordingly. I use my ml tags to take a doe or maybe two, then I hunt a big deer for regular season. Do I expect every hunter to do so? no I do not and I should not even ask others to do so. I have passed some awesome racked deer just because I did not need any more meat and to take it would have been a waste. Enjoy the hunt, the persuit and the comraderie. Stop trying to make it "better" and enjoy what you have. Please refer to my signature for more explanation

my season starts with ml and looking for a doe or two to put in the freezer. My regulr season entails loking for a big buck. Believe it or not. Saying you dont buy it but taking back calling me a liar is still the same as calling me a liar in my books.

NY honestly anter size means very little to me. Body size does. I have shot 6 and 4 that were big deer, and passed on 8's that werent. If I were forced to shoot one of the deer in the scenario, and the buck was not body wise what I want,I would shoot the doe. You really should not expect everyone to make the same decisions you would. I like 200 deer but pounds not inches. Granted a deer of that stature would most likely be the body size I want, but not necessarily. If he wasnt. I would pass on him same as you would pass on a 6 point. Does supply me with some meat, after that it is body mass. I passed a 10 up late ml as I did not need the meat, as I already had two in the freezer, and post rut, he was down a lot on size. So to imply I am a liar just because I may not do what you would seems kind of judgemental.

Big Game/Small Game Hunting License Fee Increase
bubba replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
Are you saying they should not get a raise? -
first day of season and an either sex tag, I would take neither. I never shoot deer opening day, just my own rules. I know what you were eluding to. I was just trying to give you a hard time. But if I had to choose for opening day, the doe. That way the buck could live to breed to pass those genes along. I would be more cncerned about the body size of the buck rather than the antler size.

If by 40 a hunter is washed up physically, there is something wrong. I am 52 and will walk hunt climb and drag with the best of them. I drug my 190 dressed buck a half mile alone this fall. Up and down hill. Then the guys with the 4 wheeler showed up and took it the rest of the way. I honestly felt kind of like I was cheating having it hauled out. I used to hunt deep swamp state land here in 6a. We would sneak into the swamp before daylight and wait for the ridge runners to push the deer off the fields and into the swamp. Very successful. The drags would be 2 -3 miles through the swamp to hard land then to the vehicle. If you cant do that at 40, unless you have a disability, quit hunting.

I guess the greed of hunting carries over to fishing too. You are too close catching my fish, so I will fling them at you. I don't know. If a lady approached my shanty and said to turn around she needed to pee I would tellher to go on the other side of her shanty where I coidl not see. I think they were foolishly hoping to get a peek. I have a one liner for this too, but will let it slide.

the food was good, we had venison chili, and tacos. venison sausage stuffed bread. Fried duck fried calico and and apple pie. The deer stories were good as well as the get together. I know I am stuck on this, but it was great to see the kids of some of the guys listening to the stories and eating the good healthy food. We watched the syracuse game, and hung out until about 3 or so. It was all good. Eddie Gomer says howdy and he misses you, but goober didnt make it.

ok weirdo from the north reply. I use my ml shotgun with 80 grains of goex ffg blackpowder and an ounce and 1/4 of a #4 and #6 mix. I use a fiber wad between the powder and shot and an over shot card. My gun has been reamed and threaded to take remington chokes. I use the xfull turkey. The only problem is you have to remove the choke to reload, so the first one has to count.
