it isnt bad here. A lot of more back roads and less trafffic. If I lived on th eisland, a bike would be a um no way. My job requires me to travel all over the county. Nothing better than hopping in my bike and riding all over to visit clients and get paid for it.

I was walking through the garage today when I got home. I realized how much I want to get the bike out and ride. Anyone else here ride a motorcycle. if so what ya got? I got my bike endorsement back in 77. I currently ride a 1982 yamaha seca 750 4 cylinder inline shaft drive. It has 278 thousand actual miles as I have owned it since it was new. I am looking at a new gold wing, but I wont get rid of the silver streak.

I have a patch of cedars on the edge of a swamp probably 40 acres that is sanctuary. I have tons of cover, and new growth going on naturally, so cover isnt a problem. I planted 25 acres of winter wheat and rye. 6, 1 to 1 1/2 acre food plots in the middle of cover planted with sugar beets and turnips. There are no stands within 200 yards of any small plot. We allow the number of does taken with the number of dmp's. Last year among 7 hunters, there was only one dmp, which I had and filled. No one archery hunts besides me, and I do that closer to home after work. Three of us muzzleload, and we are allowed a doe of either sex and an antlerless tag. One deer was taken during the ml season. We have almost 500 acres, so we do well. There is no antler limit, as long as it is legal. We tried a 6 or more, but the neighbrs were shooting everything we passed up, so it was a waste of time and effort. Most will wait for a good buck anyway, but as the season progresses and the freezer is still empty, the personal size limits change. Last year there was one spike125 pounds taken by a young man on his first hunt. Another teenage hunter took a 145 pound 6 point and I took a 190 pound 8 point. That was all that was harvested, even though guys including myself passed on nice deer.

in order to get their trophies, you need to not shoot anything, so they have better odds. But buy your tag so they do not get an increase in fees, and buy all the equipment, but they will decide which ones you can use and when so you do not infringe upon their god given rights to have the woods to themselves.

I have taken a few people over the years. and I have certified probably by now 700 or more people to purchase a license and hunt over the past 26 years. I offer to any of the younger students who do not have a place to hunt or anyone to hunt with a time to hunt with me. I do have a younger gentleman who I have taken small game hunting as him mom passed away a little over a year ago and his dad is not motivated to do so. He continues to show interest, and this fall he can hunt big game. So, I expect to have him out this fall.

That would kind of be the idea yes...and after a couple years they would be seeing enough legal bucks where it wouldn't be a problem... like I said before though it couldn't just be a blanket AR across the state. Most QDM programs have tips on how to reduce the chances of killing buttons... which involve some learning on the part of hunters... I guess i still do not ge thow it is ok to shoot button bucks bit not spikes and crotch horns and preach antler restrictions. I guess I am from the north

more does and button bucks you would be taken wouldnt you assume? Which again i smore young bucks taken. More does may be taken in areas where you get a lot of dmp's. In my area you may get one every three years. So are the guys who do not get one supposed to buy a license to pass up all the young bucks they see?

how could there not be less deer killed the first few years? If everyne who has to pass on the small deer they would normally be happy to take, then less deer are killed. So for two to thre years the take is down the population goes up and all kinds of problems even if short term. Plus after a year or two the average hunter is not allowed to take a buck, our hunter numbers will decrease. Not everyne has the chance to hunt a big piece of private owned property where numbers and size can be increased by showing restraint and planting food to help the population get through the winter such as some are having. If they have to limit themselves to a few weekends or days a year, and then can not shoot a deer, it will be a rapidly decreasing sport. Yeah maybe in the long run, it would build back up. I still say that if antlerless permits were not allowed to be placed on button bucks and less than 3 inch bucks, they would grow also. But when they are taken out in big numbers every year before they even grow their first rack, that takes more of a toll on the buck size and population then shooting 4 points ever will. If hunters were accountable for those actions rather than get a psss with an antlerless permit, things would change. There would be many more small bucks around in their second season alive, and even if some were shot as 4 and small basket sixes, the ones not killed as button bucks would be around to grow.

2010-2011 Winter of Discontent and 2011 Deer Season - What can we expect?
bubba replied to wztirem's topic in General Hunting
where I am in the north, we have not had hardly any snow until last week. Before that I had 8 inches on the ground and maybe got a foot Wednesday. As I have said in the past 2 or 3 years, you guys in the south get hit harder than we do. Every noreaster until last week bypassed us. And I think it has impacted the deer sightings in the south and improved mine here. -
I contend it is as much to do with inbreeding, less harsh winters and over population. So, if we take less deer out due to restrictions, these problems will get worse. Take what you choose to take, as I do. Actually we have antler restrictions now, more than 3 inches on one side. If you shoot a spike with 2 inch antlers, or a button buck, you can just slap an antlerless tag on it and keep going. I will be willing to bet that if ar was in place, and you shot a buck with 2 on one side totally by mistake, you could do the same, to avoid breaking the law. So what will really be accomplished.

I wish there had been a forum like this when everyone wanted compound allowed into archery season. The exact same things were said and argued. If we do not move forward, we will stagnate and never get anywhere. So it is time to give up the my implement is the only one, and others who do not use it suck. -
ahh the foolish ideas of man to think they can alter nature. Nature does it's own qdm. Our part is to enjoy and harvest what is offered, not try to make it better for our own egos. There are plenty of good bucks out there. Do the work and get one. Stop trying to take the work part out by making every buck a big trophy. There will always be deer that will not make the grade. So I guess we let them keep breeding and passing on the bad genes and eventually die of old age, as they wll never make it to legal size? I personally choose the deer I want to take and work to get him. If I dont I dont. But again it should be my choice. If you disagree, please refer to my sgnature. Come on guys with a good weekend of repeating ourselves, we can get this over 100.

As an instructor, I have to say we are not allowed to condone anything illegal, even under an eithcal umbrella. However the Leo who comes to my classes does mention that accidents happen, and he tells them the right thing to do, which is to ocntact the dec explain the situation, and face the music ususlly a civil compromise. it is hard to have ethics trump laws, when the definition of ethics is doing the right thing even if you know you would not get caught doing the wrong thing. so according to the definition it is not ethical to do what happened. And that is why we do not go down that road during a class. we also stress know your target and beyond.
