  1. Welcome to the site. Nice deer was he from Broome County?

    21 pt

Which brings up a good point, How did such a tiny buck grow such a big rack? I would have expected a deer with antlers like that to be a little heavier?
  3. Shoot we here in Binghamton call everything south of Albany and East of Deposit New Jersey And for the record a Conservative would have killed that Yote!!
  4. So I put on the gillie tonight and went across the road in search of the big 8. The leaves were really crunchy so stalking was out. I found a fallen tree and crawled in side it to watch a trail that led to the field. There are 2 well used trails one I was close to the other was about 45 yrds past that. The deer came down the one 45 yrds away. Luckily the big 8 wasnt with them. Oh well maybe next time.
  5. What is your definition of brush? And why is hunting near it a mistake? The thicker the better if you ask me. But it can be very frustrating when you have deer close and no shots because of the brush.
  6. You should come to the southern tier, Nothing to see a dozen or more in peoples yrd's. Use to be alot worse, with up to 20 or 40.
  7. I have to side with bubba on this one. They didnt ask which is just stupid. I bet if they had asked Bubba would have said no I have a stand there but you can put a stand over here instead. Just tresspassing and doing it without permission is just wrong.
  8. With all the Bears I have around my hunting area, I walk out in the dark with a loaded gun or an arrow on my bow. But when I get a safe distance from the road I unload.
  9. nice 9 point. love the slip brow tine
  10. I would go back out. Ive learned my lesson the hard way. I bow hunted for 6 hr and never saw a deer back when I first started hunting. But I was seeing squills all over the place. So I went back home grabbed the shot gun and went out squills hunting. 20 min later I had a 8 point in the low 130'ish standing 15 yrds from me raking a tree and making scrapes the whole time standing broadside while I sat there with the side by side 20 gauge laying across my lap, yap wide open in amazement. He finally left and I ran all the way back home grabbed the bow ran back for the evening hunt and never saw another deer.
  11. Not that it will help you now, but for the future if you will. I like to get into my areas in the winter every once in a while after the season and just start pushing the deer around and follow thier tracks. That way when I run into some pressure in one spot I know right where to head to next. Just something to think about.
  12. Wind, wind and more wind and when I thought the wind was going to die down it would blow harder. This weekend was a bust Sat. night had 5 doe run bye my stand to the oaks stop and eat and run on to the next trees. They were jumpy as heck because of the wind. They were running all over the place. Today I didnt see a deer till I pulled in the drive way and the big 8 was standing in the field next to my house in the dark. Figure's!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive got something for his butt come tommarrow night.
  13. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7197.html Part 189 of Title 6 of the Codes, Rules and Regulations of the State of New York was last amended on July 28, 2010. Part of this rule restricts the feeding of deer and moose. In New York, it is illegal to feed deer and moose by putting out any material that attracts them to feed. There are five exceptions to the rule: Agricultural crops including wildlife food plots. Distribution of food to livestock. Distribution of food to captive deer and elk. Cutting of trees and brush. Scientific research, wildlife damage abatement, and wildlife population reduction programs, but only under a permit issued by DEC. What is the penalty for violating the feeding regulation? The penalty for illegally feeding deer or moose is a violation punishable by a fine of up to $250 and 15 days in jail for each day of the offense. Multiple offenses may result in the revocation of hunting, fishing and/or trapping privileges for up to five years (f) Feed or Feeding means the act of using, placing, giving, exposing, depositing, distributing or scattering any material, or any act to maintain the availability of such material, that attracts wild white-tailed deer to feed on such material including the distribution of such material in deer wintering areas
  14. Sounds like they were masters at baiting!! It is illegal to use bait for deer, or feed deer, with any store bought bait at all. My cousins dumb arse just got fined for this , used corn and his neighbor turned him in. Lost his doe he just shot and the tag plus 250 dollar fine. Only exception is food plots which are legal baiting. I find that most people who bait illegally in NY are also prone to Tresspass and poaching so its just like drugs. You start out lite with baiting and then you'll see what else you can get away with.
  15. Blah, Blah, Blah, Bush did this and Bush did that!! Blah, DE Blah, Blah!!! But wait how many Democrats voted for most of it? Doh!!!!!!
  16. Not to mention you hijacked a perfectly good discussion on long range shooting. Though I tend to agree with your opinion about long range shots, Attacking people because you cant handle other peoples opinions is kind of silly for a forum. If you dont like what some people say then block them or dont reply. Just because some one replys to your post doesnt mean you have to answer them. So back to the original post. Poster asked if it was ok to take long shots in low light. After a little research I tend to say no. It is more than difficult enough in good light under ideal conditions, Which some have shown on this site they are capable of doing. I would say if you can consitatnly hit a 5 in circle with broadheads, under field conditions, in low light, than you probably have a 60% chance of killing the deer.
  17. I wouldnt be to worried about it, opinions are like butt holes everyones got one and eveyone thinks thier own doesnt stink!!
  18. Looks like Anthrax. Run!!!
  19. Holy chit I would quit my job to make sure I was there when he walked through.
  20. Nice collection. I on the other hand have still never found an arrow head, but I still look when I get a chance.
  21. Little sensitive arent we! Are you related to Bubba? Just kidding bubba!!
  22. Shoot, I killed my first doe with a satillite broadhead tipped arrow I found laying around the woods. It was all rusty and the arrow was 4 in. to long. I stuck it in my quiver on the way back from hunting and ran into a doe. I grabbed the arrow out in all the excitement and shot her with it. She didnt go 50 yrds.
  23. Darn right, If I ever shoot a good buck late in the season and on his death run he nocks half his rack off and I cant find it, Im callin Wolly. He could find a 3 in spike in a ten acre briar patch.
  24. AA12 shotgun and a real Japanes made samuri sword.
