wouldn't be an issue because I would be totally geared for turkey hunting and carrying a shotgun....leave the bow and crossbow home when I'm going for birds.
-
ok, say you have rattling antlers, deer lure, deer drag rope, butt out tool, grunt call, doe bleat call, fawn in distress call.......stuff like that, you think any ECO is gonna believe you're turkey hunting?
-
I'm willing to bet, that if you are found hunting with a crossbow before the legal season, and everything about you points to "Deer Hunting", you're going to have a problem. It has nothing to do with with what category a crossbow falls into, it's all about having an implement that is not legal for what you're doing at the time.....if all of your gear is for nothing but deer hunting, the presumptive evidence points to "Deer Hunting".
-
all else aside, I guess the question you have to ask yourself is "what am I hunting today?", if the answer is Deer, then you should probably leave the crossbow home until it's legal.....if you ran into an ECO and he asked what you were doing and you said "deer hunting, but I have the crossbow "just in case" I see a Turkey"....chances are you're gonna be in the wrong, you can waste time and money fighting a ticket, and you may or may not wind up winning. But, in the end the ECO lost nothing, LEO's have tickets thrown out all the time...they get paid to go to court and all that good stuff, no skin off their teeth.
-
right, but in the spring season both weapons are legal at the SAME time....while bow and crossbow are both legal weapons for deer and turkey, the crossbow is only legal for deer during certain time periods....so if you're in an area that the the crossbow season for deer isn't open yet, although it's legal at some point, it's not legal when you're carrying it.
-
yes, it really is that simple.

got this trail camera pic of a buck chasing a doe 10/22........1C
-
no, it doesn't match.....my guess is eventually with enough violations and inquiries involving it, it will be addressed at some point.
-
so, which one did you find? I would venture to guess that you maybe hit both since they both reacted the same and from what you're saying left little to no blood trails......
-
you can order the dipping sauce right from Pastabilities website, I've gotten it a few times.

Deer will recover from a lot of injuries on their own, not every deer that's limping has to be put down....just look at people who get injured, they limp around just the same, but eventually get better. I wouldn't have second thoughts about putting down a deer with a severe injury, depending on the severity of it and overall condition of the deer would dictate if I burn a tag or not.
-
That's great! I honestly don't think I would want to kill a bear much bigger then that.....congrat's.
-
maybe he genuinely thought you deserved it more then he did and that's what he meant? he may have used the wrong wording when he spoke, but good chance that's what he was trying to say.
-
that's because it's falls into the deadly weapon category, might be looked at like a billy club, and you can be arrested for merely possessing it.

Do You Support Crossbow Full Inclusion into the NY Archery Season?

did you read the requirements to get a modified crossbow permit that allows someone who's disabled to use a crossbow during the entire archery season? you basically have to be blowing threw a straw to use one.....and that's not a joke. -

pretty sure your submit documentation from your Dr. along with the application for the permit to DEC and they in turn supply you with the permit that you carry with your license...doesn't have to be displayed on the outside of your body. here ya go....http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/25022.html -

that's my thing, it's not so much the weapon that bothers me, but what it may attract and the problems it may create.......and in reality it's more of an unfounded concern because those who will do shady stuff will do it no matter. I'm sure the majority on here will hunt with the crossbow exactly like they do with a vertical bow so it's barely a blip on the radar, it's those that won't that concern me. -
my opinion is, for turkey and duck the Stoeger is good enough....if I was gonna throw trap and upland game into the mix I'd look for a better handling/fitting gun, gonna cost more, but worth it in the long run.

I would expect to see more damage as well, the odds of a cut that big not cutting deeper are slim...but I would also expect more damage if it was torn open by barbed wire or an attack by another dog or whatever else may have caused it.....I’m no expert, but I think skin is usually tight, so it tends to open up more once it’s sliced.
-
not sure if anyone mentioned it, but always make sure you run your steps above the stand so you can step down onto it........much safer that way.
-
I have, climbed up and ratchet strapped it in and some one put in steps for me so I could climb down.
-
as far as saying it couldn't have been done by a broadhead without cutting flesh, I have to disagree...how many have grazed deer and only cut hair? simply a matter of a few millimeters either way and this is totally possible.......heck, I've cut myself and never made it down to the muscle past the skin.

yeah, I have a tough time breaking balls of store employees at places like that......90% of the time they're just kids/young adults that are working under store policies. That's right up there with the people who go off on the young girl working as a cashier because the coupons are off or some nonsense like that. I find it just as easy to show them whatever they want and go about my business as opposed to wasting 20 minutes getting myself worked up.
