Actually I've been using my bow so far this year but haven't been able to connect yet. If I used my gun, I'd already be back to using my camera, lol. Lots of action the first two days of season, but the weather has kind of screwed them up here this weekend.

That's pretty sweet! What kind of material is the red part? I know what you're going to be this coming Halloween, lol

Nice gobbler and pics! Good luck filling the rest of the tags!

WNY Bowhunter's 2014 Shed Journal:

Fill up the tank and don't stop until you find 5 more! Nice bonus set there! -
Sweet double! Congrats to both of you!

Nope, it's a box call. It practically plays itself that's why I like it so much. I put some Lohmans "Box Call Magic" solution on it once a year, and that keeps it singing in the rain as well. http://www.primos.com/products/turkey-calls/box-cutter/

Congrats! Great gobbler and field photo!

WTG Pav- that's a 200" , 12pointer, with double drop tines in the deer world! Congrats!
-
Great match up with #10! Might just as well shoot for a cool dozen on the season now! You're keeping me on my toes trying to find where your going to post your next find..... I almost missed this one, lol. Congrats!

Not sure if this 43 second clip of audio footage will run smoothly for you guys.(it's kinda choppy on my crappy computer) The ol' "Box Cutter" had 8 jakes fired up this morning for almost 2hrs! I got on them again at another setup and couldn't shut them up untill noon. Click on pic below for vid clip of gobbling.

skyhunter- I just recently picked up a hard cover copy of Charles Alsheimers book "Whitetails". In it was one of the best quotes by Mike Biggs that I just had to share here..... it's so true! As fun as it is, that sure does make it sound like a lot of work, lol

Great update Sam! Fleur has certainly taken "carpet munching" to a whole new level, lmao! Glad he pulled through ok. The Iowa trip looks like it was a huge success with plenty of sweet antlers to bring home! Nice photo recap of everything from the shed woods! Congrats on a great season, and hopefully tack on a few more back here on home turf before we get too green.

If we're getting a real soaker when I wake up, I'll probably employ the "sleeping in tactic",lol. A light drizzle and I'll give it an honest effort and try to wait them out in an area they've been using. I've never had much luck calling in birds during a steady rain. Maybe I'll run my stand umbrella up to my stick blind this evening, just in case!

Nothing fancy for me. My go to call would be my Primos Box Cutter. I picked up a Quaker Boy Triple Threat pot call that has already proved it can call in the gobblers this spring. I used to have a neighbor who had a "wild turkey" as a pet in a cage in his backyard. Every morning his tom would 'gobble up' a flock of birds across the field from my property to his,lol I think they were gathering to plan his escape. Can't beat the real thing!

What a beast! That head on shot really shows how massive he is. I like the "mud flaps" on that deer mount you have behind him too. I'm not sure I've ever seen one like that before.

I'm another going with my Bow Madness. Never killed a spring gobbler with the bow, only a few fall deer season coincidental turkey kills. Since I don't get super fired up over turkey hunting, failure wont be too hard to swallow, but success could be super sweet!

I think I'm in trouble...
wooly replied to Merlot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
If you go the burning route, I'd at least sink a few arrows in it before sending it up in smoke. Make it exciting....., dowse that sucker in gasoline, and light it up with a flaming arrow "Duke Boys" style, lol -
I never quite hit my stride this season, but I did tack on 2 more antlers from recent hikes. First one was an oldie while out chasing turkey with the camera 4/23/14 4/28/14 found me hiking through some nasty jungle type terrain further down in the creekbottom. The pic doesn't show it well, but this was the nastiest thicket I've ever rescued an antler from. I also grabbed a few more old skulls from this hike. It's not gonna be easy at this point, but I'm still hoping to hit 20 antlers on the season so it's not a total flop! Antlers- 13 Sets- 3

Don't be bitter. Some guys put a lot more time and effort into getting a quality pic than some may dedicate into a season of hunts. To just snag someones pic without asking is a slap in the face, almost like you're taking credit for the work that went into it.(..yes, there is work involved) I think the pic you're talking about was skyhunters. He also has a copyright attached to his photos and offers them for sale. Ask first to avoid all the unnecessary drama that comes after the fact.

I'm just chiming in to confirm G-mans observations as I've witnessed the same vocalizations from fox on several occasions. When I set a cam on video with sound over a fox den this spring, I even got the young fox pups practicing their calls from the mound. In one clip you could here a gobble in response not far off!

No problem, count me out. That will make it easier for me to shoot a jake, lol -
2014 HuntingNY Spring Turkey Classic
wooly replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2014 HuntingNY Spring Turkey Classic
Darn it, I was going to sign up but it looks like my printer ink has dried up. Can I draw a contest card if I get lucky, lol? If so, count me in too! -
I'm not sure they like walking uphill, lol A wise ol' turkey hunter once told me the toms will use the highest point in the area that makes them most visable to the hens while up there strutting their stuff. Whether it's a rolling knoll in an open field, or an elevated area in the timber. I've found that to be very true and predictable. Almost to the point of knowing where he will likely "hang up" even to the best of callers, and most convincing decoy set ups imaginable. A smart set up should always take advantage of the highest point and try to keep it within your effective range. As always, just my opinion on a topic I don't profess to be an expert on.

That was a nice buck. Hate to find them that way, but hopefully she'll salvage the skull as a tribute to a great looking deer. I didn't find nearly as many dead deer as I have the past few post seasons..... I also didn't find nearly as many sheds, so maybe I just did't look hard enough.

Haha- some of that behavior looked down right erotic! I was happy to see the guys at the end didn't take a poke at it,lol
