  1. Sorry for your loss bud. You got some really cool pics to hang onto there, along with all the other memories of your pops. The old man looks like he was quite the soldier back in his day!
  2. I'm in Southern Erie County. I photograph them each spring before season begins so I have a pretty good documentation of when they usually show up here almost down to the day from previous years. I'll be out there next week with the camera anticipating a slightly earlier than normal arrival!
  3. I think every situation and location are different. I can head out to my spot tomorrow and not see a bird or hear a peep from one right now in my best roost locations. Birds here usually don't really get tuned up vocally until the third week of April. That's just the way it is, and always has been on this property. Other guys a few towns over are already reporting vocal birds and confirmed strutters as usual. Guess it just takes our winter flocks a little longer to break up and establish their spring territory here in hill country, but eventually it will happen according to schedule like it does every other year around this time. Scouting for me right now would probably be a waste of time as it has proven to be in the past, so I just count on them returning to the area according to schedule in another week or so. As for the owl call, I've used them in the past with some success but wouldn't consider them a must have. Now that most of my turkey hunting is done from blinds set up in pre-determined locations, I don't rely on locator calls too much other than the turkey calls I bring along with me since I'm not trying to put the sneak on them any more by changing locations on unresponsive birds.
  4. Dat's an Italian stagaroni! Ma momma used to make a da meatballs outta dem when me an Vinny whacked one!
  5. Think we got an electronics drop off day coming up down at the town garage soon. Just gotta hang onto the junk till then. I know a few country roads where folks just launch them over the guardrail with their old tires and let them pile up at the bottom.
  6. Nice man! What's the corn load capacity on that sucker?
  7. Polish it up with a Dremel. Then carve a big skull in it! That would be bad ass,lol
  8. Just about all your point and shoots in the $100 range are gonna give you exactly the performance your after. Don't worry too much about the MP ratings on those tiny sensor cameras as it wont make much of a difference in what you're planning on using it for. Find one you like, wherever you want to buy it from and just buy it. Todays $100 P+S's are all pretty much the equivalent of yester-years disposable 35mm cameras except your forced to pay extra for many of the useless features they put in these things now.

    Scared?

One of those 11,758 is mine! If it wasn't for the abbreviated x-bow season, I would have killed a big fat ZERO deer last year! The only part that scares me is seeing the season after season fly by without full inclusion opportunities. Some of us aren't getting any younger and got nothing left to prove any more with vertical archery equipment....... Been there, done that.., time to move on.
  10. Thanks guys! That's usually the way it works for me too, but this time of year they don't tend to fly to far, so if you keep an eye on them sometimes they'll let you catch up before they take off again. I try not to pursue them too far in case they are nesting so nothing raids the eggs while they're gone.
  11. Got out for a hike today and flushed 6 woodcock and two grouse. I must have been close to this birds nest because it kept coming back to me trying to lure me away after I almost stepped on it. There was another one a few feet away from this one so maybe I just interrupted these two "bumpin' uglies" ,lol Anyhow, these things have always been a challenge for me to photograph so I was happy to come away with a few shots! They've gotta have one of THE most effective camouflage patterns in the woods no doubt. Don't take your eye off these suckers once you spot one on the ground!
  12. Bury your faces in this cake boys, but don't forget to blow out the candles first, lol! Happy B-day guys!
  13. Right on brotha! Awesome stuff right there man!
  14. Thanks a lot guys! (except you Doewhacker with your crocodile and nostril hole comments, lol) Hey man, I'm flattered you would ask. Unfortunately I just prefer to do whatever comes natural to me at the time I sit down with this stuff. I've done a few pieces for others that started off as one idea and over time they changed their minds and it turned out to be something completely different, and something I wasn't happy with myself.(even though they liked it in the end). Now I just do my own thing and if someone likes what they see and wants to give me their money for it, I'll be happy to take it! Custom designs just aren't something I like to aggravate myself with.
  15. I'm setting this one down for now until I decide if I'm done with it yet... or not! Still feels like he's missing something. I told you guys I can't draw, lol
  16. Haha- thanks buddy! They look a heck of a lot more appetizing then the slug infested morels I usually find each spring!
  17. I know it seems a little early but these are actually the first antler morels I've ever attempted. I think my shape is a little off though.., and my stems ain't quite right. The little shroom on the antler base was my first try, but I didn't like my choice of bits for the crevices. Not sure what took me so long to try these things, but they're kinda fun to make.
  18. Lookin' good! Now they just need to keep the ol' man away from that thing with his paint brushes!
  19. Patience buddy..... I'm just getting warmed up for that one,lol
  20. So sorry moogster... my little brother logged onto my account here and wrote that last negative comment. Some people just don't express the love the way I do! I'm already on to you Mr Schmidt, lol
  21. Well in that case! I think your dragon fly really SUCKS!
