  1. Nice shots! Are the bears residents to your area or just sleep walking through?
  2. Uh oh, another camera nut, lol! ??? I like to make adjustments to my trail cam pics too. Still need to find a way to make the racks grow in real life to post prossesing proportions!
  3. That's a pretty good season so far! I'm at 10 now but was hoping for 20 this year. I'll see if I can get any closer to my goal today. What's your best seasons total finds? Probably 7 or 8 yrs ago I found 22 but haven't come close to that since. Usually right around 15 or so.
  4. I ordered a new pair of boots from BPS a few months ago. Paid for 2 day shipping and got them a week and a half later. The order never pulled to ship untill day 3. >
  5. I need to get enthusiastic again and get to a few different spots or something. :-\ The snow has really held me back this year. We're just beginning to melt out now but still quite a bit out there I have to wait on. For now I'm limited to checking the hillsides. Here's the ATL's from yesterdays hike.
  6. SWEET.....AWESOME cam trap!!!
  7. Picked up 3 today. Kinda anti-climactic bunch of oldies but what the hell ya gonna do throw them back?
  8. LMBO- that was shot with my pocket cam. Kodak Easy Share C-183. 14mp Good to see you again kpkot.
  9. For PP I just use the Nikon Capture NX that came with the camera. It's all basic tools like sharpening, light levels, contrast and color adjustments. I don't pay much attention to the hystograms but it shows them as well. I purchased a Noise Ninja licence for about $70 for the digital noise removal. It also has some of these features along with luminance and smoothness. It still takes me a while to do it all but I'm getting the hang of it finally. I'd love to try Photoshop but I just can't see spending that much for what I do with my pics.
  10. Thanks for the comments and tree ID confirmation guys! Lawdwaz- here's my set up. Very entry level DSLR. Nikon D-3000, 10.2mp w/ 70-300 Sigma lens. That's pretty much all I shoot with anymore. My 18-55 and 55-200 lens' have been collecting dust for quite a while now. At times I wish this lens had the image stabilization feature but I do most of my shooting from a tripod so it's no big deal. I think they replaced my cam this year with the new D-3100 which has a better image sensor.
  11. This family group of deer has been visiting again daily to munch on that unknown tree. Best answer I could get to that question was crab apple but I need to do more research....sounds too simple. I managed to snap a couple shots I liked the past couple days. I love the tounge shots, but just noticed that stupid reflector melting out of the snow bank along the driveway, lol. : Here's a few waxwing shots I got as well. A really cool bird to watch and they sure give you some interesting looks. Their colors almost look clownish amongst a colorfull surrounding.

    Why?

To put it quite simply.....the ability to kill without anyone knowing. I know that sounds terrible so let me rephrase that.... The silence and stealth of a predator on un-suspecting prey is what drew me into bowhunting.... Basicly....the devil made me do it! Gods honest truth! ;D
  13. Cool encounters guys! The fawning season is right around the corner again! I can't wait to get a few new shots myself. Great pics and stories of both your experiences.
  14. Had to do some digging to find this old scan. Let's see if this works. OK looks like it will. Still gotta figure out this scanner to increase the pic size. Back in 1991 Opening day using dads Reminton 1100 semi auto with remington foster style 12ga slugs. Pops decided to sit his usual stump a short walk from home overlooking a creekbottom while myself and my brother in law pushed the woods around him. I made my way to the edge of the apple orchard where I'd been seeing deer all along prior to the season opener. Working my way up a ridgeline beside it I stopped to scan the valley below that was protected from the windy weather we had that day. My concentration was broken by a nearby gunshot from further up the ridge so I stopped and waited as dad had told me to do awaiting a missed oppertunity by another hunter to present itself. After about 5 minutes I got a little antsy and marched on towards the orchard. 20 yds from it's edge I heard the tell-tale sound of deer crashing through headed my way. I readied for the oppertunity and brought my gun to shoulder no sooner than they came running full bore from the apples into the open woods 20 yds opposite the valley side I'd been watching. One deer passed, then a second.., then a third before finally a fourth wearing what looked like 2 spike antlers for a hat emerged. With only a buck tag the others had earned a pass but this dude was fair and legal game. As I put the magnified scope to my eye panic set in when I couldn't locate the running buck in it's crosshairs. Instinct had already taken over and many seasons of plinking small game with my pellet guns, bb guns and .22's had me looking at my target and following him with the barrel paying no attention to the scope. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM That buck never missed a step and kept on the same path the others had previously taken. At this point I threw my cap to the ground in aggrevation of missing my first chance. I sat there for a while just to take in everything that just happened and devise a gameplan to get back on them. With a slight coat of snow on the ground I figured to trail them far as I could and maybe catch up to them once they calmed down if I was cautious enough. 100 yds into following the tracks I came to the powerline clearing just a bout 100 yds behind where dad was setting. I sure didn't want to disturb his hunt so I made a right at the clearing and spotted blood almost immediately. I stopped to look around only to see my deer piled up under an immature pine just off the powerline right of way. When I finally reached him to lift his head, to my amazement he had 4 pts and the shot could not have been better had I used the scope. After admiring my first buck for a while i looked up and could see dads blaze orange parked where he had been all along. At this point I was so excited I kept yelling "Dad, dad, dad". He finally got up and made his way to me. I was grinning from ear to ear saying "I got him, I got him". Dad never spoke a word before he reached me and looked at the downed buck, smiled and said... "that's right where you're supposed to get 'em". He extended his hand to congradulate me and said "good job"!! By that time my brother in law had made his way over to the kill scene and pops put him in charge of field dressing duty before we dragged that little buck home and off to the butcher. Sorry for the long story, but that's the way it happened! Field photos were not a priority back then so excuse my back at home pic. That's my BIL in the orange, I never did get a shot of me and pops with that deer unfortunately but the memmories will live forever!
  15. Here's a couple antlers I found durring the 2009/2010 shed season. This fiirst set was cut off a dead buck I'd found not long after season closed just off a neighbors backyard. He sure would have been a cool buck to keep tabs on. Seems every year we see more and more odd ball racks coming from this area. I had seen this buck on one occaision from the stand about a mile from where I found him dead. Deffinately one of the funkiest 8 points I've ever found especially coming off what I guessed to be a 1 1/2 year old. All points were at least an inch. This next set is a match set of sheds I picked up the same year. I had one encounter with this buck durring the 2009/10 season where he came into a rattling session 3 weeks into the southern zone archery season. I rattled in 8 different bucks in 3 days that year but none were as unique as this guy. I also got some video footage of him from that encounter but have not seen or heard of anything of him since then. You guys got any goofball bucks running around your areas lately?
  16. Good stuff FD! Beautiful mount under the circumstances.
  17. What a handsome little sucka! Momma doe was heard saying "once ya go black, ya never go back" ???
  18. You grab it like a bowling ball but you have to stick 2 fingers in one of the holes.
  19. Through my vast extensive research on the furry critters, I've found the aroma varies from beaver to beaver ranging a spectrum from seafood to flowery fields. There's just no way of telling just by looking at said beaver, thus the scratch and sniff approach should be used before consumption begins. What I can tell you for sure is I've yet to find one that tastes like chicken, and you should avoid handling any beavers with fibromas!
  20. I think it goes back to a little incident on Shitz Creek. The beavers damned it up and left the antlerless moose up it without their paddles.
  21. You all should be ashamed of yourself. Bunch of pervs! I hope your wives find out what you've been looking at! :-*
  22. I've been itching to use that title for a long time now. Found this guy diving for branches down at the crick and enjoying a shore lunch. He's making a real mess in the creekbottom but I was glad to see him. I got to move in after he popped up through the same hole in the ice a couple times and dove back for more. Just wish I coulda got that darn branch on the left outta the way.
  23. Nice hunk of horn right there! Bring on the 2011-12 season I say!
