  1. Thanks guys! Always exciting to make it through another year!
  2. Running the 30" Ariens here as well. She chews through lake effect snow like it's cotton candy. Electric start took a dump but she starts on the first pull every time.
  3. I always have the brake engaged during a cold start on my 170 and 018. Full choke till she burps.., then at half choke they both usually fire over on the 1'st pull. When that happens the saw is running wide open until you hit the throttle to knock the idle down, THEN the master switch returns to the normal idle run position by itself as soon as you touch the trigger. I don't want that chain spinning at full throttle for that brief period while I've only got one hand on the saw and the least control over it for that second or two that it takes to get on the gas again. With the brake on I have control at all times and can hear the idle cut back as soon as I pop the trigger with the brake set. There should be ZERO movement from your chain when the brake is engaged even at full throttle. The brake should stop the chain IMMEDIATELY even if the saw is running wide open. If it is moving, then your brake's NOT working properly and is an accident waiting to happen.
  4. Just noticed an additional FYI... it looks like your chain is on backwards in that last pic too.
  5. Not at all. German engineering protects the Stihl's from dumb Polocks like me,lol
  6. I once forgot to put the little pin bearings back under my clutch sprocket on one of my Stihls and she smoked like an old lady at a bingo hall! The sprocket was flopping around out of control against the brake.
  7. I should probably add that you may want to pick up an extra set of motor brushes for it as well.($5 Amazon again) Changing them out is simple as unscrewing a plastic plug and dropping the new ones in. These new Dremels seem to wear them out MUCH quicker than the older models. One day you'll pick up your tool after using it the day before and it'll be dead. Pop the new brushes in and you're back in business. That's not just an issue I'm having with mine. It seems to be the norm with everyone who uses their Dremel on a regular basis.
  8. I use a Dremel 3000 and 4000 for all my arts and crafts with the flex shafts on both. Wood, bone, metal, glass, stone... the possibilities are endless. Just use the right burrs for the material and you'll be all set. There's some really good bit sets on Amazon that can be had at a fraction of the cost of Dremel brand bits.
  9. You want to make sure you get the FUN SIZE packs not the family size bags!
  10. Here's an idea for those on a tight X-mas budget,lol

Hahaha- these kind of pics always crack me up! Wonder why the most important gadget(gun or bow) isn't in this pic. I would have at least hauled out the Stihl and threw it on that cut log just in case anyone there was watching.
  12. Some big ol' 1000lb log ever tried that crap with me I'd carve it into a walrus, lol Cool story, and I think you've got Pygmy beat with this one! I always enjoy the stories about near death experience afield for some twisted reason.
  13. Gonna see if I can squeeze a little eagle out of this one.
  14. When I run carcass cams in the winter, most nights the mice are crawling all over those things. Tons of mouse footage over the course of several hours almost every night.
  15. Thanks! I burn and stain most all of them, then seal with a spar varnish. I'm not too slick with paints so I try to avoid that whenever I can.
  16. Looks a little top heavy thus creating the excess bow in her back. Could offset some of that with a 4" doinker stabilizer mounted in the rear!
  17. We picked up two new hub blinds last spring. The first one set up and take down was a breeze when testing in the basement and field. The second one (different brand) was a fluster cluck that wouldn't even open properly. Ended up forcing it and somehow twisted a hub 180 degrees that poked right through the side before it ever even saw the woods. Decided to haul it up the hill anyhow with half the walls open after disassembling the rods from the hub and reassembling. Then couldn't get the damn thing to collapse so had to drag the whole thing back all set up just as it sat. That one will never see the woods again, and has been converted into a shelter for my carvings in the yard, lol
  18. Damn dude, lay off the lettuce! Hope your docs can get things figured out.
  19. I'd be down with that! Just let me know what I can hunt with at what time of the season and I'll gladly give it a whirl. If I can be out of the woods before the December chill, I'm all for it!
  20. Thanks guys! I got a big one coming up from that beech I cut down the other day. Took me two hours to roll this thing through the snow 30yds to my carving pit. Suckers gotta be 300lbs or more at least! I got an idea of what I'd like to do with this one, but it's gonna take one more roll to get the fat end on top, and unfortunately I'm a one man show.
