  1. I had a Marlin 30-30 and loved carrying it. It was slim, light, and fast handling. However, I once tracked an 8 point down and when I went to shoot him as he stood up in his bed, the safety was on. I always kept it off and used the hammer as the safety, but somehow it got pushed while I was carrying it. I did end up getting the buck after several seconds of struggling with trying to find out what was going on with the gun. Got lucky that his chosen path of travel allowed a shot. I sold it after that. Last thing I want is to worry about 2 safeties.
  2. I bet it has something to do with your dominant eye and your natural line of sight.
  3. Thanks for sharing. First thing, I love the looks of the old wooden canoes. I have a modern canoe, but would love to someday have a wooden canoe to display. Second, when that venny hit the hot pan my mouth started watering to the sizzling sound. Third, you have a nice little shop. Gives me ideas for my own someday.
  4. That's obviously a vampdeer. You can only kill it with a wooden arrow through the heart and then you must eat the venison with garlic.
  5. Lost a month to my appendix rupturing, never got my grit back after that. Killed deer, but never killed a nice buck. No excuses, I didn't go after them like I normally do.
  6. Isn't that counter productive? I thought the DEC wanted to decrease numbers??
  7. The last few years I have tried to fill my doe tags fast so I can concentrate on buck the rest of the season.
  8. When I buy a box or multiple cigars and want to keep them, I use a Boveda pack. I store them in a Tupperware container with the Boveda and some sheets of cedar. It's not as aesthetically pleasing as a humidor, but it's very easy and fool proof. http://www.bovedainc.com
  9. I voted that my desire and drive wouldn't change, but I am also against ARs. I would also be against them passing a no buck law. My love for hunting wouldn't leave because I didn't get my way. I think your point here is irrelevant. Do people who love watching football stop watching when new rules are passed?
  10. Yeah, but think of the downside of introducing CWD into the area...
  11. I really like my 20ga 870. It's lightweight and reliable.
  12. A law is a law, regardless of anyone's opinion of it. Breaking one is the same as breaking them all. It's that simple.
  13. I got these two yesterday morning. The hardest part is finding some hunting ground that has a good population of rabbits. Once you do that what I like to do is look for their tracks and scat to pinpoint where one may be hiding. Usually I just get right in the brush and start shaking it with my boot or snowshoe. You'll know your doing it right when your bleeding pretty good from all the thorns. When you flush one out let him get a little farther out before shooting or your pattern will be too tight. Another option is to shoot them in the head with a .22 pistol after spotting them in the brush. If you find where one is using a den, wait till a warm sunny day following a cold spell and you will catch him sunning himself in some thick cover not far from the den. Wear pants that you won't care about getting ripped. Also if you miss, they like to run a circle and often head right back to where they started. Last year:
  14. Yes I would and it's personal meaning wouldn't change much. I would however find new ways to challenge myself through tactic changes and primitive weapons.
  15. I have a Xikar somewhere, now I am gonna have to find it
  16. I bought a Acid sampler one time. It was all across the board for enjoyment. I would try a few before committing to a box. My dad brought some back from a cruise he went on about 7 years back. They were from one of the island he stopped at, Barbados or something. Wish I could remember what they were, it was like smoking a nice cream soda.
  17. And yes I agree, hiring a guide or outfitter is not as challenging either.
  18. No, but my point is high fence hunting is certainly not the challenge fairy chase is. That's my point. I am not against high fence in general, but it is not the same.
