I understand Biz. Hence my comment it wouldn't be my type of hunting. And I invite you to hunt my swamp anytime. You can show me how to hunt from the ground there. Lol. I have killed deer from the ground on a stalk with the recurve. In the end, you can't do that without blowing out a small parcel quick.

Interesting you say that Pygmy. It seems like modern bow hunters are taught to take only high percentage shots. But, according to some, many of the old legends (Fred bear) shot a lot and missed lots of game but they also made the crazy 100yd shot on occasion. Less taboo back then to take low percentage shots? Like you said, if forced to shoot that range, I guess you accept the risk. Then again, welcome to my swamp where 60yd shots are not even possible due to the heavy cover. Half the time it's hard to find a clear lane to shoot 20. And you may never see the deer at 30yds. Good thing we cheat with tree stands. Lol

I am guessing western hunting would not be my thing. I don't like sniping with a rifle or bow. Get me up close and personal. That's what makes it fun. And Biz, misses at those yardages seem to be less publicized for some odd reason. Lol

Lol. I had that happen with aluminum arrows the other day. What a pain to get the good arrow out. If you are going to Robin Hood, stick with carbon. Easy removal.

I caught the sarcasm Core. It was funny. And offhand, I usually am good for 1" groups at 250yds with iron sites as far as you know.
-
Alright Larry, I have to call you out on this one - "umoung"? I know you live in Webster so you must spell better than that. Maybe its an old English spelling.
-
Try it with a recurve/longbow with no sights. Maybe you are a natural but I have seen more people miss a 2'x2' target at 10yds when they start. Just requires lots of practice. You would hate it!

I think those tests were formulated when most shot traditional bows. Different ballgame than a compound. Not that its an excuse not to be proficient.

Heck no. Cherry Pie - and that is big enough for two nights' worth of dessert for ME. You should see the size of our oven.
-
Where did you find my plate? Been looking all over for it.
-
No one ever mentions the size of the pie plate either. I like big pie plates and extra pie. I guess I get better hunting accuracy/range as a result. Never knew overeating helped my hunting. Woo Hoo.

How would you react to this situation? (Hunting permission)

As a group, we can fight over pretty much anything. I am impressed! -
I like your odds, you seem to have him on cam regularly.

I have at least one, but I need to find someone else to shoot it that accurately. lol

Honestly, I don't have a set range. If I am certain I will make a good shot, then the deer is in range. If I am hoping I make a good shot, then the deer is not in range. Game time decision based on situation and resulting confidence. I figure I shoot enough to rely on my gut. And, I am not perfect when I am certain , but have a pretty darn good percentage of hitting my mark when I think I am. I will also add, we set most stands to anticipate shots inside of 25yds so its rarely a no go issue for me.

11-093 env. cons. l. 4. a. No person shall: (2) discharge a firearm within five hundred feet, a long bow within one hundred fifty feet, or a crossbow within two hundred fifty feet from a dwelling house, farm building or farm structure actually occupied or used, school building, school playground, public structure, or occupied factory or church; Is a camping trailer a dwelling house or farm structure actually used? No idea but I suspect DEC would play it on the safe side. "so I see he's now living in his camper." Sounds like it might be deemed or least argued to be a dwelling house even if temporary.

Phade wont admit it, but he may have done that too. This property has droptine bucks. I am glad he went the extra mile so to speak. -
Lol - I am thinking how exciting is that. Most non-hunters ask if the guy has a screw loose.
-
No doubt one of the better states for whitetail and bear. And Cheese.

How would you react to this situation? (Hunting permission)

Yep - I had a similar issue and explained it to the landowner honestly. She said, you have the final word when it comes to hunting, handle it how you want. I still didn't toss the guy, but told him he could hunt one side and we would hunt the other. That worked for several years until the owner got tired of his antics and had me toss him for good. Now we hunt the whole thing. But, I did know the owner somewhat - at least more than a first introduction. -
With a bear so close by, you would think the buck would know better.

As much as I know no landowner that gives permission wants to mediate a dispute between two hunters (especially two that just got permission), I don't think you have much of a choice but to talk to them, acknowledging that you certainly don't want to cause any problems for them and asking whether the handyman makes the decision as to who can hunt there. I suspect the answer will be no. With that, you could suggest that it might be a good idea to stop back when he is around so that you could all talk together. You would be happy to ensure that you stay clear of him and perhaps only hunt 1/2 of the property so that he has plenty of space. Being respectful and honest is the best that you can do. -
I prefer shooting them when they stop naturally, but I have stopped them and even called my buck two years ago back to me as I was cursing while he was trotting away from me at 70yds. Game time decision but I have yet to have any deer bolt from a quiet baaaaaaa. That said, I will already be drawn before I bleat if its needed. Forcing a deer to stop and look around is probably not good if you still need to move to draw. Just my experience.

I don't pay attention to the level when shooting my compound.
