  1. I think cash and/or a home equity loan are your best options. At least with a home equity, you can deduct interest on your taxes. I didn't even know that loans are available for recreational land.
  2. Indoor range 21 yds. Got lucky as arrow is way too stiff.
  3. Still good speed but yes they make more sense. I would stick with coc heads but I think rage makes a lower poundage version too with slightly smaller blades. Just my opinion.
  4. 318 is probably ibo for that bow, meaning 70lbs at 28" and a 350g arrow.
  5. As much as I practice, 30 is about my limit on deer with the recurve. My groups starting opening up too much after that. But I agree that 30 is plenty to kill deer. Good luck extending your range even further.
  6. I find that in these thermal hubs, wind direction is dictated more by topography than predominate wind direction. Took a while to really learn how the wind reacts but they are solid areas.
  7. That's great range with a recurve. Good luck.
  8. This is an excellent read. Confirms our experience regarding thermal hubs at one property we hunt. Swirling winds are tough to hunt, but man do we see the bucks come through early rut. http://wiredtohunt.com/2017/08/28/an-advanced-look-at-scrapes-how-they-can-factor-into-hunting-strategy/
  9. Rinehart has always lasted reasonably good for me. They make a brute crossbow target. Any foam target will take a beating if you shoot broadheads regularly but just to confirm that POI with BH is same as FP, I would suspect any rinehart will suffice.
  10. Good shooting. Drop nock point (raising rest a touch would also likely work) and move CS slightly closer to riser. Should sure the disparity - if you like tinkering that is.
  11. If those numbers are accurate, you should have plenty. But, that would put your bow at an IBO rating of 382 - faster than any production bow made today (I think Full Throttle at 370 is still king). That's one fast Matthews solocam.
  12. My experience is that unless spine is really far off, most BH and FP disparities are cured by nock/rest height and rest centershot adjustments. Yoke tuning may be required if you are really getting deep into tuning (and have yokes) but the aforementioned should get you really darn close. Even if its is a form issue, if the form is consistent, the bow can be tuned to that person, but it does require the bow owner working with whomever is helping tune. Just my experience.
  13. You do know Levi left Elite because he wanted a greater challenge. Elite was simply too forgiving and accurate. Matthews, on the other hand ..............
  14. I stand corrected! Put it in the middle and I will not make the mistake again. lol
  15. Just breaking chops but then that would be low and right I think?
  16. After seeing you shoot tonight, you should be just fine blowing up limbs on your own. Holy smokes do you have a long draw. Never seen arrows shoot so hard from a 40ish pound bow. Those deer have no chance. Not to mention, you are a natural. Look forward to seeing a deer down photo with the recurve.
  17. Darn it. I shoot at least 20 shots a year and would not shoot at 300 let alone 450. Either I am practicing too much or need a weatherby.
  18. Man you guys are rough. He is just proud of his new gun. Nothing wrong with congratulating him and wishing him well. Bill has been a great guy to deal with in my experience.
  19. Don't worry, I can blow your new limbs up too, or at least teach you how to do it right!
  20. I am too slow of mind to be scared. It was more of a, "what the heck just happened" followed by check my face and body for damage - ok who are we kidding, I was checking the bow first, then my face and body. Finally I had to look for the arrow to see if I damaged my house, but it took me a while to get there. All is fine, except the limbs, which will be replaced. Best part was my wife's comment - well you pull it back so hard no wonder it broke.
  21. We still have a day or two of work left, but getting closer. Nice job Grizz. Always nice to know you are ready.
  22. Not looking to bash the manufacturer as it is doing what is required to fix the issue as promptly as is possible. Can't ask more than that. I will say that the bow shot like no other before this incident and I have owned quite a few. I will happily shoot the replacements when they arrive. It appears it should be in time for season opener.
