  1. So cell cam for inventory is OK but for "locating, pursuing or guiding the hunter" its not OK. This looks like a great new specialty area for a lawyer. lol
  2. Agreed. Spread is no guarantee either. The buck I shot that grossed over 135" this year had less than a 16" inside spread.
  3. Get Dacron if you have one made. That bow won't like FF. Steve B on this site is the man for quality quiet strings. mountainmufflerstrings
  4. Shoot it. That's what it was made for.
  5. Easy to change weight as Chas described. Most will argue that a bow is most efficient at its highest weight. That means a 60lb bow maxed out will shoot the same arrow faster that a 70lb bow set at 60. My chrono didn't necessarily agree with that theory on all bows but regardless it's best to have a lighter bow that you shoot well than a heavy bow that is difficult for you. 50-60 is plenty and gives you the option to increase weight from 50 up as you get your form down. IMO.
  6. They are usually advertised maxed out meaning 60lb limbs are 50-60. And you will probably prefer more let off Biz, most do unless they come from a single string background where holding heavier weight is the norm.
  7. I agreed with you that ARs probably would have no impact, but I think the theory is that a hunter, even thinking its a doe, will look harder to ensure it is not a small buck that violates the AR rule. By looking harder, he would have then seen the rack and realized it wasn't a doe. Lots of assumptions.
  8. I think the contention is that he would not have shot because he would have then seen the small rack because he would have looked closer. So no small buck and he could have hunted the bigger ones around. I don't buy it, but I believe that is what wolc is suggesting.
  9. Related to this issue, I have been using loctite gel to fletch for a while. Works great but costs around $4 per 4g tube which won't even fletch a dozen arrows with feathers. Bought a 20g bottle of gorilla glue gel a few weeks ago at lowes. And it worked just as good for $4. Fletched a dozen arrows and still have more than 1/2 a bottle left. I will be using the gorilla glue gel from now on.
  10. Woo hoo! That's great Greg.
  11. 4 mini blazers on the compound and 4" rw helical shield cut for the recurve. No idea why I went with the mini blazers but they fly great. 3 regular 2" blazers fly great too.
  12. Congrats. Always fun getting a new bow. I have too much fun. Lol
  13. Not sure what an "adore" permit allows. Kidding, I suppose doe would fit the bill. I personally don't like restricting the right to choose even if what I choose does not violate the proposed law. But I can understand arguments on both sides of this issue. Would I like a better chance at big bucks, sure. Just not at the expense of my right to decide. Then again, I know that DEC already has rules that restricts my right to decide in other ways. I will admit that I really don't have a clue whether this would benefit the "health" of the herd or not. I don't think that is the impetus behind it in any event.
  14. Rack It may be more of a concern about encouraging youth to hunt vs. total hunter numbers. There are clearly a lot hunters in NY. I don't know for certain, but I suspect that there are less youth hunting now than 30 years ago. Assuming that's true, there are many factors that play into that unrelated to actual hunting. But, it would be nice if a youngster starting out could shoot a spike if he/she desired and it gets them excited about hunting. It could be discouraging for that youth to hunt several seasons and see bucks but nothing that he/she could shoot. Does that result in someone that gives it up - who knows. But it would be nice if they had the choice. I know when I bring a kid fishing, I am looking for action more than the trophy to keep them entertained. I know my comment is hypothetical, but I could see ARs as deterring youth participation and, as a result, hunter numbers a generation or 2 from now. Its hard enough to keep youth interested with today's fast paced, immediate gratification mentality.
  15. WTB - 2005 Mercury Marquis with 31,699 miles from FL. If anyone knows of one for sale, please let me know.
  16. Welcome. You will love hunting.
  17. Happy Birthday Philo!
  18. I took one with the recurve stalking it in a high grass field on my hands and knees. It was a blast and one of my prouder moments. I think the doe was as surprised as me when I stood up and actually made the shot. Lol I think grampy always hunts from the ground.
  19. I shot my first deer with a bow from a blind. Not a big fan though. I hate the cramped cave feeling and not being able to see 360 degrees. I actually prefer the simple ladder stands with no arm rest or gun rest. Much easy to shoot a recurve from. Phade likes the arm rests and hates when I break them off. lol
  20. Heavier tips helped her today but those arrows are still way over spined.
