Interesting F&S article by David Petzal on respecting your quarry
moog5050 replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
I would acutally prefer the "The Big Ragu Carpeted Sissy Truck Driver" ... please get er done WNY -
I have the goliath. You will love it and it held me just fine at around 340lbs last year. Decent size platform too and really comfortable. You will not regret that purchase. Get an extra bungee chord to cinch it together when you pack it in to avoid any noise. I also taped some extra padding around it to avoid any clanking of metal. As stated before, please tie the top and bottom together and stay tethered to the tree when climbing and descending.

As long as the pic is in the back of Phade's truck and not mine, I am OK with that. If I felt remorse or sad for killing the deer, I would not hunt and respect the opinion of those who feel that way (such as my father). In fact, I know hunters who no longer hunt because thye felt that way. I believe one should respect the game, but my goal as a hunter is to successfully kill that game and I have no problem in celebrating the success. -
Not sure that the OP is big, but I agree with you FatboyD. Its actually easier to stayed tethered to the tree on ascent and decent with a climber than using a ladder stand.
-
Also, I use parachord to haul the bow up once I am set in the climber and carry a small bag with essentials and a bow hanger.

I am a big guy, but like the summit goliath. My harness is an hss. Both work great. The HSS is not much different than a basic harness but it is sewn into a lightweight vest. Helps prevent tangling and is easy to slip on. I would not go with a discount climber. The goliath is the more comfortable than any stand I have ever sat. BTW - be sure to tie the top and bottom together on the climber - just in case. My cousin had his bottom slip and he had to shimmy down a tree. I know I wouldn't think of doing that.

I like the heat shrink idea grow.
-
Tape it with electrical tape. It will kill most of the sound, but there still will be some noise.

Lawyers are no different than the rest of society. They run the gamut.
-
All true, and you can include a release/waiver in a hunting lease that would accomplish the same. BTW - you would have to find a pretty desperate attorney to sue on behalf of a trespasser, but I suppose there are some out there.
-
Slow down a bit and enjoy every aspect of the hunt without stressing; share in the excitement of my friends taking a nice deer; perhaps get my wife and son in a blind with me; and, least important but would be great, kill one worthy of mounting this year.

Are cellular trail cams worth it?

Looks tastey Sam. Congrats and its cool to have her on cam beforehand. -
Looking at prices online - you stole it. Congrats! Of course, a side by side would have meant you were looking out for your buddy, but I will jog behind - no more than 1 mile though.
-
Just means you don't sound like a buffalo heading to your stand. I am jealous. Working on shrinking, but it ain't easy.
-
Hence my mile runs daily. Didn't know they served a purpose until now. Seriously, we probably can lift it in. Let me know when you want to grab it. We could do it tomorrow.
-
I told him that I would just carry it home for him. Who needs a truck. Talk about pansies with their manly trucks. lol
-
Breaking Phade's chops because he knows I will probably shoot the first spike I see, despite my promise to hold out this year.

Neighbor at camp showed me this pic from last November

Awesome 8 -
BTW - I suspect we can handle a brake repair -
-
Its called a tape measure - as Culver suggested, you can borrow one from my husband. Keep this up Phade and you are banned from the new parcel in mendon where the 200" buck has been posing broadside everyday at 6pm while I hand feed him. Probably not a shooter for YOU anyway.
-
I got some mud under the wheel wells one time - I promptly had it detailed. You may just be exaggerating a bit, but the bloody carcasses fit better in your truck. When we kill a deer that's too big for the dakota, I will make the sacrifice. Seriously, we can buy a trailer for under $500 and actually plant a plot next year. BTW - I like the new nickname
-
Can get a trailer cheap. Happy to tow it, but no way its muddying up my bed rug. lol

AS long as you speed up so I am not tripping over you.
