sure sound like a good way to meet the land owner / farmer
-
It sure works out that way, I also lost my hunting buddy about 12 years ago and just not found another that wanted to hunt and fish. I would suggest you consider Walden rod and gun club, great bunch of people and they have both gun and bow. I was a member years ago. I now live in upstate Oneonta NY. I find I go out by myseld and not much open land to hunt here all posted. Unless your family they do not want to allow you to hunt. So I walk out the back door and havw 28 acreas that run up to a big mountain. I see a few deer and am not the hunter I use to be ( Now going on 70 )I just go out for 3 hours each morning and the last 3 hours...I no longer use tree stands, but have several man made ground blinds with plastic chairs in the blinds. My wife says I love the hunt but no longer will be out there in the rain and snow. I would love to find a locval hunt club that wants older member to join in the fellowship. I killed a lot of deer in my life time and now let them pass unless it a very large buck, the last two season I sure have not seen a lot of good horns. But had a big doe lay down against my blind last year and take a nap.

i hear the dec is proposing an oct 1st start to the 2012 season
sweet old bill replied to Pat Rockets's topic in Bow Hunting
The DEC is finally going to give Bow a Oct 1 opend date, in the past they did not want the bow hunters to be in the woods at the same time as the Bird and Rabbit hunters. So for me I can then suppport a youth days and or early BP. I also wish the DEC would let bow be open for the total month of December. This business of a few days to find and take wounded deer is a farce. After the deer herd has been pushed with gun and then BP hunters it takes time to the herd to return to normal travel routes... -
they are great if you are in a area that gets reports. I am outside Oneonta and get zip. But have the direct TV that will give report of weather concerns.

It sure can be a issue as we get older ( now 69 ) I have 4 pills in the am and 2 at night. As a add pills I always check to see if or waht I can take if needed. Glad they helped you out and you are now well.

MY thanks I do not have a boat but also see they have a place to park just outside of Oneonta near the state police HQ. I will give it a try and also North of Oneonta near were Pice Shopper is located I see another place to park to fish.

Yea they are just a great supporting management of the deer herd and support hunters... I have went to all the meeting with the hunters and you tell them what you would like to see and nothing occurs. They still are saying we have the herd size like in the mid 70's. In the area I am in you are lucky to see a doe on opening day of gun . But they continue to put out the doe permits. The only thing they care for is $$$, if they could have a stamp for hunting with a spear, it would be in the bow season. Just like they continue to push the crossbow. -
With the opening of bass fishing season does anyone have a area in Delware county that they would recommend for bass fishing ? I am near the town of Oneonta. I see a river runs thru the town and some areas sure look like it would be good for small mouth bass...thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

That was what they say when they want to take days away from the archery season for other hunter groups and then it never occurs. -
still have two of the 2 degree prism sight scope in the shop. MY wife used them for all the nfaa shoots. It gave her the ability to have a mark on the Reynolds sight for the 80 yard walk up....The other thing I do is shoot the 3D's targets I have in the back hill. I have 17 locations with 2 targets to shoot at ( either deer or Bear )I also have two stakes at each location one is for youth or trad shooting and the other is out about 5 yards more is for compound. Some days we just pick a spot to shoot from and all are no marked yardage. Also I shoot al year around. That helps to give me the ability to hold. I still thin archery is about 20 % the ability to draw and shoot the bow and 80% is all in our heads.

My Dad at 62 had a major heart attack. He went to the docotr for follow up and was told that he could no longer do any of the things he loved to do, hunt, fish, just working in the yard planting and mowing. He asked the doctor if he did stop how many more years would he have the doctor said he was unable to tell him. It could be one year or 15 years. My Dad continued to hunt and fish. He passed away with another hear attack a full 5 years later. He said what would life be without doing what you want to do. He passed away at Big Pine key fishing camp in fla.

I do think when you practice out to about 50 yards and then get a 10 yard shot you sure feel that you can hit the close shots. That why for years I shot the NFAA field round were you shoot from 10 yards out to 80 yards.... I still in all my years of hunting have never shot a deer over 25 yards, it must be that I hunt in heavy cover. Or I can be at 70 years young I just do not see how to get a arrow thru to the deer body...the eyes as well as the rest of me is on the down hill...that was a good post Sky and wish you well with your new rig, are you selling your older Bowtech bow ??? they still say that model is there best sellling ever...
-
But at 69 going on 70 we both need slow deer and close shots. With the compound 25 yards and under and if I have the recurve in my hand I sure like 20 yards or under. Bill

I am like you Doc in 19 69 I started with NFAA and that 80 walk up was a killer. Now I shoot most of my practice at 35 yards and 25 yards. I never so far in my 50+ years of being a hunter had a shot over 25 yards. I think if we were out west and they get shots out to 60 yards ....
-
I seem to shoot a lot at 25 yards and a max of 35 yards. I never have shot a deer over 25 yards in the woods during hunting.

I see lots of hunting arrows that are carbon now are buying for about $12 dollars a doz 100 gr brass weight that you put in prior to putting the arrow tip insert into the shaft. I do the same thing but am using the .243 brass bullet copper. I pull the nock off the saft prior to starting to add the weight, if the points insert are in the sahft I heat the point and then pull the point from the sahft. I then use 214 hour slow epoxy on the bullet point and insert into the saft, I then put epoxy on the arrow insert point and put that into the shaft. My next step is to use a cleaning rod from the nock end and push down the shaft ot make sure the bullet point is seated on the arrow insert point. I allow the arrow to cure for a day and 1/2 before using the arrows. I got a00 points from a gun catalog for $9.85 plus shipping. so far have done several doz for buddies as well for myself.

I will hit that 70 mark on Nov 5..... at times we all think we still are that thin, long hair, gill chasing young fart....not the bald eagle with hurting back and several other places and did I say I also have been married on May 15 of this year for 46 years to a great women who put up with all my man toys, hunting and fishing....had to say that as she came in as I was typing...
-
take it easy and no overwork with the heavy lifting. Get some young guys to give you a hand and or those that have equipt to do the task...I have never in my life seen so much rain day after day. I live on the side of the mountain and the water just flows past...the creek in back is still oppen and flowing for those that would like to try white water rafting.
-
I tried going to 3 fingers under and it sure made better groups of arrows shot. But I do not seem to feel that I get the same ancor each time. anyone else feel that way ? I also still after about 40 years of shooting are poor at best with trad bow, but put my compound in my hand and I have no problem shooting 3D or hunting.

Bear and deer gun season may soon open on the same day
sweet old bill replied to erussell's topic in Bear Hunting
That the way it use to be in the 60's, I think it opened in the catskill for opening day of gun...I think the DEC need to to use the kiss way of doing business ( Keep it simple stupid ) -
Lots opf women and youth shoot a bow at peak weight of 40 lbs and with 80% let off and take deer. Can you draw that amount ? If not the draw lock system works well for hunters with arm and or shoulder that still want to hunt wiothout a cross bow ...

Sure seems strange, the gas per barrel goes down by over $12 and on the weekend the gas goes up now to $ 4.09 per gal...
