best thing I EVER DID WAS GET RID OF THE WOOD BURING STOVE AND GET A NEW PELLET STOVE. I go thru just 0ver a ton. Under $300 dollars. It has reduced the over all cost of oil burner by 65%. I start at 5 am and run till 9am and then restart at 6 pm till about 9 pm. The rest of the day the oil burner is set for 62 degees. the negative is like with wood or pellet I do clean daily. I have to vacumn it out prior to start each morning. I then clean the vacumn so it ready for the next day. The pellet now do not fire starter, it has a glow element that starts the pellets up.

Highs and Lows From Your Archery Season
sweet old bill replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Bow Hunting
The High I was still around to hunt at 69 each year I still love the hunt but now a lot of human physical problems reduce the walking and staying out for long period. the Low never got a shot with the bow or gun on a buck. Had hunters riding on 4 x 4, thru out the hunting days and also a guy riding thru with his truck to check his traps. Sure killed off my days afield. interest: was concerned my man made blinds of brush and burlap material could hold man scent was proved to not be a problem when a adult doe in bow season feed and then came and lay down with her butt next to me in the blind. I could have just pushed a arrow into her with my hand. -
were is this located ???? town and county. there is state land off of route 23 in town of North Pharsalia and the DEC several years ago worked on one small piece for making it for grouse. Lots of brush and feed...

Seperate game commision from dec?
sweet old bill replied to G-Man's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
sounds good to me. -
I ahot NFAA they havr a walk up that are 80 yards, 70 yards 60, and 50. I scored on all but my hunting yardage is no shot over 25 yards. Why I hunt woods from the ground. To many branches in the way. A bow can shoot a arrow several 100 yards, but not accurate. Due to human error.

hunting public land in the Adirondacks worth it? Opinions Please?
sweet old bill replied to TChunter's topic in Deer Hunting
I use to go for deer and bear. In several years we never saw a deer and did see some tracks on a bear. But it was a good time, the land is just great, lots of paper land that you can hunt. But make sure you also take a compass, or you may be spending a night in the woods.. -

question on possession of BOOZE.
sweet old bill replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
I use to hunt with a guy like you said, had in his backpack and used when he was cold. I guess I also have in my backpack a qt of coffee that I use. As long as he is not getting high then so what. Use a shot when you are cold. With the temps we have been having and all the rain I am sure he has not had to even take a drop... Bill -
Just one ???? Love to say that what I do but I do carry 4 in the mag and another 3 in my pocket.

great to hear that us seniors still can get it done. I just hit 69 years young, and no longer can use tree stands. That sure has changed the taking of deer for me.
-
same for me. Let the young one go to grew another year...

I never drew the bow on a deer. I saw several good bucks but nothing close to shoot. I no longer can hunt from tree stand so I use ground blinds. I had one deer jump over a rock wall next to one natural blind I have in the early light, almost pushed me off my chair. Had another doe bed down within 3 feet of a blind I was in. So it was good season for me. I wish I could report I got a good buck but the cards was not for me this season. It will be tag soup. My buddy got a 7 point with the gun today. I had our NY city hunters shoot a 615 am, by the light of there 4 x 4 as they drive to there stands on the back mountain. They also use the 4 x 4 to drive deer down to several watchers etc. They got 3 this morning from there shots. But for me this is not our sport of hunting. Bill

Here is one that will generate some debate.
sweet old bill replied to nyantler's topic in General Hunting
I just wish they would make it back to one buck a year per hunter and make it must have 3 on each side. But this would not be required for youth hunters and or seniors... -
I made 3 copies and have them on my backpack for hunting and 1 on each of my spin fishing box and fly box. I keep the total licence in my walet locked in the car. I have fell in the beaverkill and then everything, I also lost the back tag in my coat one time so that how I resolve the issue. I have a lifetime lic, so if stopped I just ask them to walk to the car and see the safe, dry , documents to prove him I am...

I have a buddy who has 6 of these out on public land and all have his hand made fake scraps and all are active. He swears on these and does take a buck over them each year for the last 10 years or more. He says that this week and next week will be the hot time for the scrapes as he is getting a lot of doe's on the fake scrapes now...he says once the actual breeding starts his activity level goes down. He use's a powder that makes a qt of the scent that he puts in the dripper

I got for 2 hours in the morning and then walk in and then the last 3 hours prior to dark. I just do not do well trying to sit all day like I use to.
-
means I walk into the woods a hour earlier and get out closer to my normal dinner hour...

we leave the temp on 63 degrees to go on in the winter months, in the summer we have the A/c set to come on at 78 degrees. We also use a pellet stove in the living room, on winter cold days that we are in, best dollars we ever spent, we put it on for 3 house in the morning, it keeps the house above 70 degrees for most of the day, in the evening at 6pm we restart it and run it another 3 hours... we go thru a ton of pellets a year.

if you hunt you also have found that clear or dirt on the BH arrow. I sure had a great shot at first light one year ande could not think that under 20 yards I could miss. I hit a twig that I sure did not see, heard the arrow go over the back side of the deer.
