  1. I will be 70 in N0ov 5 and also sure can lose some weight. But no tree stands. I had a fall and broke my right leg in 9 places about 12 years ago so no going up as the leg does not bend well for me to handle the ladder. So ground blinds has to due for me..
  2. god bless her and have said a prayer for her and the family.
  3. same with me just walk out the back door. No a lot of great hunting but it close and being now will be in my 70 year old. I just go out for 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the PM. no longer have the heart to stay in a stand or ground blinds all day.
  4. May have to cut out the weekly 3D shoots. Most are about a full hour plus to get to. By the time you shoot and get back home you are now talking about 30 dollars. Being on a fixed income it start to be something has to go.
  5. I had for years a place that had been used by local police for sighting in and just shooting. They then got a new range area, so the local like me would use the old place on state land. I would once a year take a plastic can and maybe pick up two of them with spent shells and also paper. The broken birds I found goes into the ground after a year or two so I stopped raking them. So I guess the answer is yes you can use but sure should clean up after one self. I did have a DEC guy stop me for in June shooting stumps. He wanted to check all my arrows to see if I had a BH on any of them. I told him what stump shooting was and he said if you shoot a live tree you could get a ticket and no cutting of any branch. Plus he also checked my life licence. Also asked were my back tag was. I tild him that was at the house, which was the 2nd house from were he drove in from Rt 23. He made me go to the truck and take him back to show him my back tag. And they sometime I am sure wonder why I no longer support the DEC.
  6. I like to fish the west brance off of Rt 17 and work down the west branch. Or if nothing works I then love the beaverkill. I like the week prior to May 30 for the flies and the old fly rod. What with the issue of felt on the waders boots ??? some state now say you should not have then on the bottom of the boots.
  7. No as yet, I have been told. But come May 30 it always seemed they were on the beds. A great place to fish. I use to like this time for the land locked salmon or lake trout.
  8. Just what Burt said is the way it works. You can now go online and get your permit to fish the water works for NYC and print out your permit.
  9. I use to shoot out to 80 yards with NFAA and during the filed round you would shoot a lot of arrows over 50 to 65 yards. But never have shot at a deer in the woods over 30 yards, just to much brush in the way and you sure would need to have a good way to tell the exact yardage to the deer in low light conditions. A survey was done years ago when the compound came in, with trad archers they shoot most 90+ % at 20 yards or less with the compoud they found the movement out was just to 25 yards or less for 90 + % for deer taken. Have any one of you taken at deer at over 35 yards in the woods ???
  10. the 2219 sure is for just old hunting the best pick as due to the weight and the 19 thickness of the alum they sure will not bend. The added weight will give you the peneration for big game. It may reduce your speed by just about 3 to 5 FPS.
  11. I hunt near the house so I have a plastic sled in the area. If I get a deer I walk to the sled and take it back to the deer, tie the deer on and the sled makes all the difference. It slides easy, even goes over branches and or a rock wall. The type of sled is flat bottom. If I am hunting out of the car I carry it in the trunk. At 70 years young those days of just picking up and tossing a deer over my shoulder are long gone.
  12. we use to have a camper off of rt 17 and the beaverkill and fish most of the year out of the travel trailer and then had a hunting camp in Jeffersonville.
  13. how abbout getting a senior out hunting as well. Seems as we get older over 65 the people you use to enjoy hunting with are no longer around and or the kids are gone to there own life style in another state.
  14. nothing like coffee on a fire pit, then eggs and bacon while camping.
  15. Up and ready to go to Whitney point sportment club for there 3D shoot of 40 targets. I also love there big breakfast, as the wife is not around to see all the bad things I will have ....
  16. How about listing you 3D shoots this year on this site. I would like to try to make some of them.
  17. I was a member for several years, a great help to hunters that have major health issue. Over tiome I was able to get so I could walk with a cane and try hunting again. I do not take deer most year, but am able to walk about a 1/4 mile to my stands and sit in the woods from a morning or afternoon hunt. They helped me by showing that you could still hunt. A big thank you to them and there members. At 69 years young, I will again shoot all year to sit in a blind on the ground, see the leaves changing, the first hint of forst or first snow showers, and hope as daylight start to come that a big buck will walk on by. I do not shoot young bucks and or does.
  18. There is a beagle club in the town of Whiteney point NY. That has about 100 acreas that has wire all around the land site. It is off of route 81. it is the exit prior to the sign for Whiteny point, you get off make a right go down maybe 2oo yards pass gas stations and then make the next right hand turn and it is about 1 mile down that road on the right. I was a member there for years, a great place to work the dogs and train new dogs. But I have been out of it for several years.
  19. This weekend April 10 is the first shoot at Whitney point sportmen club. They have one of the best ranges, two 20 targets ranges. They also have a great breakfast, that if you leave and say your still can room for anymore you are a hell of a eater. If you identify the town there are lots of bow clubs in the southern tier, I would go to 3Darchery.com and they have a listing of a lot of the area clubs in our state and a way you can check from your zip code and a listing will come up. The other site is tollgate archery and in it is a listing of lots of the local clubs and date of shoot and how to get there. If you are near Oneonta NY, send me a emal and have several targetsa at the house for you to try your skill on...
  20. How about a area / topic were iof you buy and test a new product you can give your review so other hunter can see the results. I know for years when I had my archery business SOB archery Pro shop I would do several tests per year for some of the major MFG of archery products. I would do a analysis of the product and send back the product with my analysis. I always felt there should be a firm just like UL tested firm to gain certification of a new electrical product. I sure am sick of you buy a achery mag and they show the new bows and look at the testing and never find were the tester says it not a good buy, why, they are also being paid to give a good review thru the bow mfg then buys ads in the mag...
  21. cost of a bag of corn has gone up by close to 100% in just one year time frame. They are also saying that it does not do well in your car or truck. If you do a analysis oc cost to produce gas from corn the cost is almost 75% of the finished product, not a smart way to go. I think we also should not give tax loop holes to those making the product. I just wish we would go back to drill baby drill on shore and off shore. Make it a total USA goal to reduce the amount of oil being purchased by us in the middle east. I also feel we should tax these wind fall profit of the tax firms.
  22. seems the DEC if they would allow the southern tier to open on Oct 1 could also let the north area open up two weeks early from the prior past opening date as well.
  23. The first 3D in the central area is next sunday at Whitney point sportment club, they have a outstanding course and the breakfast they serve is great. I hope to see you there. I am the old fart, bald, overweight, that has a smile on his face from being out to shoot a few arrows with his buddies. The snow melted off so yesterday I was able to shoot the bow for the first time since coming back north, I shot for just about a 1/2 hour and did not lose a arrow. Most were within the kill zone of the deer. I did have two arrows that were about 6 inches off the mark out of the 60 arrows I shot.
  24. I shoot outside yesterday for about 15 minutes and then walked my 3D range and checked targets from the winter. I had to reset up 4 of the 32 targets. I also lost the horns off of one deer.
  25. I am in the 4 to 7 inch area of this coming storm. I hope it goes east and you get it on LI and then it will be all rain. I just can see my targets yesterday and even shott about a doz arrows. I know it will melt, but lets get this winter over. Plus it makes the streams to high for fishing for trout.
