  1. We were shooting a NFAA round back in the 80's when it was my turn to shoot I shot and broke someone arrows, He said you SOB you know how much they cost...ANd one of the other guys said you mean Sweet Old Bill you would not try to damage your arrows... so that I got the nickname of SOB...when I started up my archery shop in the 90's I called it Sweet Old Bill's archery Pro shop.
  2. The far LEFT or the Far RIGHT both are nuts. It seems that to say that guns are bad is not a logical position for the far Left but then I sure do not feel that everyone should be able to own anything in the way of GUNS or cop killing ammo. I sure do not think we should be able to buy clips that hold 30 + rounds. I sure do not want to go back to the old west with all carrying a 6 gun on his person. I also do not want ammo to be sold with special ID marking that you have to purchase and the bullet is then tracked to you, or my shot gun or rifles have to have a listing with the police, or yearly fees. I do think that the laws should be logical, maybe more education within the schools. WIth so many single parent women that do not have the awareness of guns may need the schools to present safe handling of guns. I am aware of archery in the school system has been a major plus for archery. I have hunted my total life (69 years ), and first helped clean shotgun or rifles in I THINK the first grade. My own kids I did the same way and never had a problem. Safety first. I sure could see myself locked up for shooting bow or guns in the backyard. We are blessed in central NY to still have the wide open spaces to take our kids or grand kids to show them the ways of hunting and fishing. I am aware that now in NJ there are towns that will not even allow a bow to be used in the back yard and all guns/ bows must be listed with the police. Not common logic anymore.
  3. I lived nest to 7500 acreas of state land for about 15 years. I would see what they call selected cutting of red pine. They would leave all the tops of the pine and after then were done cutting a piece you could not walk thru it. I asked were the funds went, it down to the city in general $$$, no one $$$ go to the area it was cut from and or does the cutter have to reseed to make it into a food plot and or hardwood seeding. They the DEC said the fact that you can not walk thru the area cut is not there interest and after 10 plis years the snow and rail will rot it down so new items ( Brush / Trees ) rebirth
  4. I had started a small archery shop prior to retiring. Upon retirement I went full time with the shop and just closed down this past fall. At 70 my wife suggested I may want to take more time for myself than being tied up with the shop during the deer season. So I still shoot a lot of the 3d's, deer hunt with the bow and gun. I do not go small game hunting anymore, due to a bad leg and have a problem walkiing. I also love the spring and the month of May for turkey. I then start planning small trips to several fishing spots for I love small mouth bass or trout. I still make up custom arrows and will help tune a bow or two. I am very close to my one girl and see her, my son in law Mike and the two grandkids. My wife likes to walk in town for a hour a day, I walk the back hill by shooting my bow, I have 17 locations that have 2 targets at each one. It takes me about 1 1/2 hours. We also belong to two senior clubs and enjoy being with other seniors. We do go south to Myrtle Beach SC for the period of Jan to April 1. Thank god my son in law takes care of our place and plows it out / shovel off the roof. We have lots of friends from the northern USA and or Canada down her during these months, swim in heated pool each morning, shop, go out to dinner, and play cards etc. I also Joined a NFAA archery club for next year and I plan on taking the stick with me. The name of the club is Sand dune archery club Myrtle beach Sc. check it out on google.
  5. great hunting with the dogs...looks just like my buddy barn in Youngville Ny...
  6. battle of the bands first week in June I think
  7. welcome, a great little town you are in. My wife use to work in it. Great people in the area...some good hunting. I use to have a small archery shop in North Pharsalia. Now moved to Oneonta NY.
  8. not in NY. that more than I seen in my lifetime of hunting NY and I am 70. Thanks Dec for the lack of the deer herd you killed them off for dollars.
  9. check out the ALpine fireball, all the talk of the show. OUt the door price of $599, shoots in the 330 fps.
  10. number 6 for browns and number 4 for hares....
  11. that been around for years and yes it sure seems to be like a x bow to me. WHy not draw, then hand held the bow weight.
  12. seems we do need as in the public school to make usre we highlight to new hunters that hunting means personal ethics in hunting as well as how many did you kill off this year.
  13. they lost but gave me as a fan a great season.
  14. I use to live out in Vestal center Nelso road and we alwaays during the summer would have a bear or two come over from PA. Never saw one with qa bow or gun in my hand.
  15. not lazy just old, fat, and at 69 years young not have the ability to pull a deer out from a mile away from the car. I hunted North Pharsalia state land 7500 A's off of rt 23 and one eye road. I did well over the years, never seemed to see many hunters during bow but come opending day of gun the orange tide was out. I would just walk a extra several 100 yards from the road and again never seemed to see a lot of hunters. now live over to Oneonta Swart Hollow road, anyone know of any stae lands in the area. I sure can not find any...
  16. AS a fan if the Jets, I sure do not see how they will win. But I do hope. I feel the Jets miss to many tackles, the quartback has a lot to learn, he sure does not seem to come thru in some areas. But in the play off anything can occur so go Jets...
  17. he sure is not who I would want. He has a whore to big business and will say anything to get another sponsor. He lasted not more than two years per bow sponsor. Now he feels he can best get more out of the NRA and there big business members.
  18. I have a life licence so that would still leave me. I was not trying to suggest we have more increase in the fee to hunt. But with the budget problems we may have to help yet again.
  19. I would suggest that we look at the states that have the best hunting for deer and see what there season are like and also what bag limits are. I sure see major difference with NY if you compare it to a Iowa. I would like to go back to one buck per hunter and tke it with either bow, gun / rifle , black powder or corss bow ( you know it coming ). I would also like us to have to report as we get our licence each year some on line questions to give real time info to the DEC. such as: did you hunt the prior year, what location, number of hours spent hunting, total number of deer seen, by sex, did you take a deer. this may help the dec from yearly saying we have the same total herd size in NY, and also start to reduce doe permits in areas that hunters who are afield are telling the DEC that they are not seeing and or taking deer.
