But who will hear a arrow shot ???? I still do not need to wear glasses all the time, just for reading and any work with small items etc. LIke fletching or adjusting a bow.. .I still pass the test for driving without glasses but I am sure that is next. My concern would be if you ware glasses how do you keep them from fogging up and or does other weather conditions cause a major problem. My shooting buddy at 75 just had eye repair work done, he now does not need any type of glasses. My question to him was " How much extra for the new lens with the cross hair in it ".... he is shooting so good I can not believe what a change it made.

I have in the past and some imes it has worked out very well. It is a must you do all the work with rubber gloves on so you do not leave your scent. I also have a hand rake to make the scrap, then I put several drops of doe in heat scent on the scrap. I also put a few drops of buck scent on the scrap as well as on the licking branch. I also hang on a branch a dripper that will leave scent each day when it warms up....

Ground blind - stand stool or chair. What's good & comfortable?
sweet old bill replied to nyslowhand's topic in Deer Hunting
Hi all I use a plastic outdoor chair from walmart and have a note on it that say I am a physical challenged hunter and please do not remove or take. I have been making blinds up for about 15 years now and have only had two chair taken and since then are less than a 10 bill no big loss. I do find they sure work well for us senior hunters, that have bad back as they do give you support. I am sure they have then at the end of season sale, I got two year ago 4 chairs at $5 buck each .... -
Walden Sportsmen's Club
sweet old bill replied to ajp's topic in NY Clubs and Organizations Discussions
Just a great club. As a past member in the 1960's when I lived in Walden. My Dad and I both were members. I sure would join but now am upstate near Oneonta. -
In over 40 years of hunting I always have found that for some reason in the southern tier of NY I did the best in the last week of Oct and the first week of Nov....I can not think back to when I had buck running after the doe in the 3rd or 4th week of Nov...I know he is the Pro but I just never have seen it that late in Nov...how about you and your past history of hunting..

thanks Doc for sharing, they sure do look good... They make a single pin scope that is similar as it has different color rings that cna be put into the scope, the rings go from a cross hair to a cross hair with a center circle. What we have to do to keep in archey as we get older.

No matter the time I still will be out there. Being retired I sure seem to have the time and the woods in Late Oct and early Nov are the place to be. I wish all will get the buck of there dreams this year. I finally saw one that fits that requirement on the 4th target of my 3D course with a small 4 point buck he was a big 10 plus buck.

I went to the slider sight with the .029 fiber optic scope so that keeps me from having a problem with the pins coming together in a blur. I just leve the pin on 25 yards and sure have never had to move it in the last several years...
-
I set up my bow to have 3 marks on a slider sight with the first mark is 25 yards, 2nd is 35 yards abd 3rd is 45 yards.... But with the 25 yards I have in the past been able to take just about all deer I have seen in the woods. I am shooting a Alpine 3D bow at 60 lbs weight, 29 inch draw and bemen 400 spine carbon arrow with 100 gr points. IN a survey posted in a deer mag the average shotest shot was just uner 8 yards with the longest shoot was 35 yards and the average for all hunter was 20 yards. based on that info and with test shooting with my bow if I am for the center of the deer checst with the 25 yard pin I can hit in the kill zone from 15 yards to 30 yards. If a deer is closer under 15 yards I have to just hold a inch low and if the deer is out to 35 yards I just have to hold 2 inch high... what are you finding for your hunting. I see now some sight have 7 pins, my god with my old eyes I jusrt would see a blur.... Bill

that what I used for years since I did not have a way to kleep the water in the travel trailer from freezing up. I just would put a gal of water in the bucket and 2 oz of the chemical to keep the smeel down and also break down tolet paper. The last thing I would do each weekend was take the bucket out on the land were I had dug a hole was to dump it. By the time I came back in June to open up the trailer again the dumping place was cleaned up.

so we are saying that the chase period is from the last week of Oct tru the fiorst two weeks of Nov....then the next 2 weeks will be the actual breeding of the doe's....

I am retired so a day does not go by that I do not shoot a few arrows with the exception of when we go south to Myrtle beach SC for the period of Jan, Feb and March. The rest of the year I have my garage setup as my own bow shop and have the boews ready to go from recurve to compound. I will go out and shoot maybe 15 arrows and then back in to the house I got at the house I can shoot from 15 yards to 55 yards. I also have a 3D course setup with 32 targets of 2D or 3D deer. I shoot it two times a week or more as it gets closer to hunting season. As we get older it takes more time to keep your bow arm, plus it just fun for me.

weekly weight in check I gained a 1/2 lb. BUt can not understandy why, no cheating, walked the back mountain 3 times this week while shooting my recurve bow with blunt ( stump shooting ). Thee trees in some area are starting to turn, also see red acorn are dropping, see the deer have a 3 foot wide from the mountain to my son in law corn. It is over 8 feet high. The walk right past my one low tree stand that I can still use.

Everthing is looking up and I do have a smile on my face. I sure am glad that will not have to have any operation this year. I sure love the smell of fall with a bowin my hand. I no longer seem to be the hunter I was in my 20,30,40's year old time frame. I let both doe's and small buck walk. But those times in the woods seem to be special.

Few New additions going into this season
sweet old bill replied to Geno C's topic in General Hunting
sounds like you guys are just about all set. I also am shooting at the 35 yard to 40 yard mark with the bow and both rifles are sighted in with one having a new 3 to 9 scope on it. I also shoot 3 times a week a 32 target 3D course all at un marked yardage. I have a bad leg and no longer can go in tree stands to I will be in Sept making up some more ground blinds. I use a rope around 3 tree, burlap camo material and then brush in. I also put a plastic chair ( green) from Walmart at each location. The chair has a tag on it with my name, phone and asks the person not to move or take as I am a physically challenged hunter. But feel free to use the blind etc....So far in 15 years I have lost only 2 chairs. -
My shots are under 30 yards so I do not use one I just give my best estimate on the actual yardage and put the pin on the shoulder of the deer.
-
I am shooting 60 lb with the compound and 50 lbs with the recurve bows.

are there any archery / gun clubs in delware county area of NY ? if so please identify and give contact info for the club my thanks Bill

good news will not have to have operation at this time. Blood flow is good in the arteries. I will or may have to have operation if the blockage reduce blood flow, that will be checked yearly with the doppler test.

If 4O got a 10% increase in herd side they sure did not come over to the town of Franklin and Swart hollow road. We got lots of coy dogs and nothing else. I see in my pasture most days 2 doe with a total of 3 fawns. I also so far have found 3 sets of fawn bones on my land from the coy dogs...not a buck to be seen.

I like the idea if you are hunting with another hunter to just set a time and then still hunt from your location to his. If you do pusd a deer it is not like on a full drive were the deer is being pushed hard.

I had always told my wife the day I would quite smoking was when they locked me up so I could not go to town and get some. Well 15 years ago was my loast smoke. I use to buy 10 carton at a time in NY for 10.60 a carton or buy the smae in NC for $5.95 a carton. I would save my spending money and buy 40 cartons in NC to save on NY cost. Well my day to quite came when I had a ladder slip on my way down from the house roof, I fell 14 feet and broke my right leg in 9 places. That was my last smoke as I waited for the transport to the hospital. My wife came home and found I had 7 cartons in the house that she gave away, 2 weeks later I came home from the hospital and it was another 4 weeks till I could with a walker get down stairs to my bow shop and I found another 2 cartons that I gave away. I kept one pack that I drove into the wall with a nail just to look at....I still know that if I had one I would be right back on them. But this is why I think I also gained 40 lbs, so now the hard work again to lose this amount of weight. to any that are trying to quit, it sure is hard but you can make it. I was 2 1/2 packs a day of Kool's. I got my first pack of these free from Uncle Sam in that little war in 1965. Bill
