you know, funny you say that. i found myself comparing the two and they are two totally different animals in comparison to upstate hill country and down state. And i only say this because i have done both for entire seasons, not just weekend get a ways. So when i was down on LI only coming up for a few day hunt for gun season, its hard to gauge the season as a whole. but being up here for 2 seasons now and actually putting in a ton of stand time, playing the wind for various sets and properties, i can really get a sense of how different it actually is. I see the ground and area I hunt here upstate by me is generally high pressure. There are a lot more variables of things that can really cause deer and movement to vary and change. Wind, Neighbors, Pressure, Predators and honestly i see predators having a large impact on hunter success. So yes, it is different lol. It took me many years to iron out good Long island hunting ground and a few after that to hone in on shooter deer BUT, I did it and consistently too every year. Around here we have some big deer also and many guys dont see them or even know they exist. My first year was tricky (2014) it was a learning curve and i had a lot of pooled data i collected on my own over that year but by year 2 (2015) I had put myself in some great areas and on some big deer and quite a few of them. Ehhh, hopefully 2016 is my year. Geno is over due lol. I find it up here to be easier to hone in on pinch points, elevation, transitions, staging areas, bedding areas and so on. I feel its all laid out like a map and if you know what youre looking for or take the time to understand things its actually not that hard to find them. Down on LI its generally flat, large portions of woods, trails every which direction, natural browse everywhere. So its a little bit more difficult to hone in on things you can upstate. On LI i have always clearly seen my phases,in a few spots you can always tell a lomst where you were in the season, example: seeking, chasing and so on. Up here you see small buck exercising doe here and there and then alot of night time activity when elevated human pressure is prevalent and then maybe a few bucks chasing here and there. I constantly find myself wondering where I am in the season without trying to guess due to the calendar days lol. I have my own theory on it all and I think it has a lot to do with fawn production and survival. With the last 6 or so years up by me being so mild, it doesnt really force these doe to worry about fawn survival for the following year since the cold and harsh snow always seems to hit after the season ends. Ill get into that another time lol perhaps over some beers with the boys after the season like you said. I game for that! you guys aren't far from me...

Thanks! yeah im sure a few made it... my one big 8 was shot a mile away1st week in december, one of my others was shot opening day on an adjacent property. he has been bedding there more often so it was bound to happen. you enjoy your Christmas also, stay safe. Hey Pete, Yeah been a little busy.. i cruise around on here but havnt posted much. Ive heard mixed things about LI, seems like a decent amount of big ones were dropped. it has been very warm up by me too. was almost 70 degrees the other day here lol. havnt had any snow, i mean like a small dusting yesterday actually, finally but thats it. hows everything with you been?? been out hunting often this season? oh and i started a contracting business. Home Renos and Property investments, buy and sell (flip homes). I want to get more into the building end of things and also get into hunting properties. Wasnt a great season but it was good. passed quite a few early then its like they hide under a rock. pressure gets turned up before gun season kicks off and day time movement goes down hill. I hear ya on the trail cam... I dont beat myself up about it tho by choosing the wrong set. it happens, thats hunting. I love the Intel i get from them far to much. but i hear ya... how did you season go? you and Brad get out much? You too bud! Youll be up here soon lol.

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable season! I haven't posted on here much lately. Ever since i moved up here and started my own business its been tough to come on, on a regular like i did at my last job with the same 3 breaks a day we were given lol. plus i feel every time i get used to Tapatalk, they update and it screws me all up again... so annoying. Been awhile since i chatted with some of you, so I hope all is well! I had a very slow season for deer movement but every sit I have in the deer woods is always a great day. Best year for having shooter deer on trail cam. 9 or 10 deer total from 130 to 145" on 3 different properties. Never saw one on any of my sits but my TC revealed i sat the wrong set twice, as my TC showed a big 8 on one property and another big 8 on another at around 430 under my stand so too bad I wasn't there but thats the name of the game. My dad had a chance at a 9 point we called Dozer that has about a 23 to 24" spread. buck slipped in at 15 yards as he was looking the wrong way apparently lol. No shot tho... all in all things are good, I am enjoying every bit of being up state and being a business owner has been good to me so far. has its humbling moments but I love it. Headed down to LI for the Holidays and getting in some hunting in one of my best sets! looking fwd to it

Went out this AM... Not one deer. Its been a tough slow season for me this year. Best year i have ever had for shooter bucks. 9 total shooters on 3 dif properties but worst year for seeing them in daylight. I had my chances at a few in daylight but chose the wrong set on those days according to my TC. thats hunting tho Long Island here I come this week! -

How About an Official 2015 Gardening Thread?y
Geno C replied to wildcat junkie's topic in General Chit Chat
I've got all my seeds done the otherday. I bought a few plants already but I started a bunch from seed a few days ago and put them in the green house. I have a garden on each side of the yard this year and I plan on having a lot. -
I think it's a cool idea! But what about robbing? They didn't show other hives or even that hive they are harvesting from with bees swarming the jars. Once that honey scent Is in the air it's a frenzy. I mean a bee keeper will have more then one hive on average in a pretty close distance to one another.

oh and i love Bow as well BUT late season (COLD) and no personal stands of mine up i am using gun... why not right

yeah you sign up for the DMFA through DEC and then sign up through Cornell. Once you make an account for making reservations you can view all the sites. at that point they have maps for each area. What i did was pulled up the maps through Cornell and correlated it to google maps to see what areas and spots appealed to me... you really can go wrong, there are a lot of deer in that area.
