  1. This is my mint vinatge 1,964 Starcraft w/' 84 Johnson as you can see its all the way under water. Its this year up in the ADK. If you look tomthe left thats my 19 y/o daughter who jumped in and held the boat as I dumped 5 gallon bucket after bucket on her. We towed it to the ramp and brought her back to camp ,i drained the carbs and fired her back up, she's working fine. thats why old 2 stroke Johnsons rule ! As well as Samantha ! BTW she's a good salome skier and caught some nice bass and pickerel as well .
  2. GRC. I'm a FF for the city of Rochester after 20 some years my right shoulder is so messed up i can't turn my air bottle on or off ! still can draw a bow but time wil tell .
  3. I wish you the best of luck. its hard nights sleep tonight, I know Ive been there . Ill be checking from work tomorrow, best of luck Larry .
  4. I may have to bow left soon as its much stronger then my ever weakening rt eye. Switching to long gun left handed we easy as pie. I think bow may be an issue, what with having to buy a whole new bow just to try ! Sorry for the OT drift.
  5. I'm 100% with your gear list ,and what the others have said as well. I test my stands and harness each year.Hang them a few feet up climb in bounce some, check straps cables and so on.HANG from harness. The first time you do this should not be WHEN YOU FALL ! It rides up a bit it makes movement a little harder, reach etc. the straps make it almost impossible for me to reach a cell in my front pocket. The harnesses with those sewn folds you may not be able to hang from without them breaking as designed to do in a fall, which also drops you lower then you may think. Here's something everyone should have when in the woods with sharp knives and broadheads. http://www.quikclot.com/QuikClot-Products/QuikClot®-Sport™.aspx
  6. Hum i'm Rt handed. I gun left handed, bow rt and am left eye dominate .Right eye quite weak. Congrats as well.
  7. Here's a shot of the field and cutting beans in our piece. Wrong pic lol right field though .
  8. The farm I hunt plows the ground right after harvest, so not much of anything left, except thick mud and deep furrows .
  9. On the top loop of my pack is a loop of rope, a "S" biner which is a S shaped piece of metal with two spring clips that close up the open parts. I just hang it from the "s" hook.OR sometimes if I want it higher I wrap the pack straps around the tree and use the S hook bewteen the two straps. I also hang my headlamp from the packs loop so I can find it easy in the dark. Most of my hang ons have a tree step up above the stand as a hand hold when stepping down on to stand,I can hang the rope loop on that as well.
  10. and an Encon officer can give you a traffic ticket . I was checked by a Trooper out at the road 10 years back or so, and some Sheriffs stopped me when they thought I was hunting on posted land couple years back. I wasn't but they got a 3rd party call from out of state.....
  11. Good luck to you. The woods might be better faster then you think. As for my dog its always been the next AM in jeans and Carhartt. No weapons .Get the call late night after friends gave up,once on Thanksgiving at my sisters, half in the bag.... OK I'll be there at 7:00 damn. He just loves deer.I think its because I always cut a leg off at the knee and give it to him. He'll carry it on walks around the neighbor all proud .
  12. Oh no. I' m waiting till the rut, most of my stands I have not been in. Most likely I'll only hunt 2 afternoons in the next ten days .
  13. nice job. I slept in too, did not have to get up for work untill 6 00AM.
  14. Well tonight I sat in the same stand as last night. The wind was right for it ( from the north ) and now I know of at least 5 good bucks over there so I figured I'd give it a sit. All i saw tonight was 4 doe. The good thing was they feed right in front of me and i did not get busted, made me feel a little better about the set up. Go in on days tomorrow so the next time I will go is maybe tue. really want to get back over to my main spot want to get to my best stand, have a camera up there i have not been near in a month .
  15. and todays nnw wind is prefect for the stand i saw 4 mature bucks at last night.i bet i just jinxed myself.....
  16. I think there may be a slight uptick in numbers taken in bow.i know a number of guys who have not been out at all and some only a couple times. Many wait for the rut,and don't wan't to burn out themselves or their stands. It would be nice to see a break down of dates taken .
  17. Thanks Eddie going tonight after visting my 90 y/o Mom. But a south wind is the worst possible wind for this stand seeing as how they pass by me to the north. Going to what i thought before would be my best stand . I'm starting to like afternoons !
  18. Very sad. Heres what I do. Each year I hang my hang ons 4 foot or so off the ground at home,i get in them stand at the edge kinda bounce a little. Check the straps and cables. Then I tie off and test my harness. You might be surprised how far it rides up,how much the strap around the tree sags downs. you end up farther down then you might think. Some harness have folds that are sewn togather, when you drop they break in a controlled descent to lessen the shock, this puts you even further down. As i've said before someone should know where you are and what time you'll call when you get down . I have my cell, a Spyderco knife clipped to harness and light in my pocket that has a S.O.S feature if nothing else i can drop that and it'll flash sos for hours. Might not have helped this guy, just what i do.
  19. Hum did not know my dog had to be Gov.approved, guess we'll have to stop. Only got started because friends called after never hearing back or being turned down by deer search.Pitty I thought about offering to help any of you fellas that lived near me . At least he goes out undefeated and there's a few really happy hunters.
  20. Great hunt tonight. farmer called to say while cutting beans he jumped a monster 12pt near one of my stands,so thats where i went. Never saw him but I saw 4 doe with a 10pt,he was almost wide as ear tips with 6inch G2's. Then when I got down 3 shooter bucks were just 50 yards away in field..... one ran off I dropped to all 4's and the other to just stared and then back to feeding, trapped in field for 15 minutes. pretty good 2 hours 4 nice bucks.
  21. You did all you could,it sucks but get back out there when you feel ready. I don't know much about deer shearch and training dogs to find deer, but my untrained beagle has found more then one.
  22. Wow just WOW. Never saw the monster 12 pt I did see 4 other nice bucks.First at 6:00 just as the shadows came across the west side of the field 4 doe and a decent 10pt popped out to feed some. he was not quite as wide as his ear tips with what looked like 6 inch G2's,i watched him for some time with the binos. Would like to pass him,but could be tempting , never came close. Time to get down, toss seat cushion into field put on pack grab bow climb down step into field see 3 shooter bucks 50 yards away !!! Holy crap, first one runs back into brush,I drop to all fours in tall grass the other two just stare, then back to feeding ! I'm trapped for 15 minutes, got a decent look through the binos, then they walked off.what a hunt ! This is like a years worth of big bucks for me in one sit .
  23. Well I've been working since age 16 which would be 37 years now . I can't ever remember being employed by a poor man.
