Yes I read a big study where they poured ,buck, doe and human pee in scrapes 100's of times, monitored the scrapes with cameras and visited them in person. It made no differance on times or how often bucks hit the scrapes. Most who pee in bottles and such often get some on their hands ,feet ,stand ,ground anyway .

Just like golf I guess its the first shot only the counts, can't "walk it in ",in the woods. As for pics.one day i guess I'll get a digital camera,I understand they'er all the rage !

I go out of my way to wear some camo to certin things, like when my kids played HS sports ,events like a party for my wifes work ect. We MUST let the world know hunters are their neighbors and co-workers,normal folks just like they are, otherwise many only know what they hear on the news and think we all shoot each other, tresspass, poach and the like . I still remember when my kids would go to daycare at the "Y", and I wore an ornage camo hat one season when I dropped them off 3 ladies that worked there all asked about my hunting, and told about how their Dad loved hunting and so forth. Be proud of being a hunter, don't hide your camo or a hunting shirt like its kiddie porn or how a drunk may hide his booze, be proud and set a good example spread the word about hunting don't hide . I even hang a deer in my front yard GASP ! Kids have got of the bus come up and soon they learned a little something, like yes we eat it..... Sorry just read the DATE of this thread !

Well I hope it works out for you somehow, I really do. However I have a shooting range on my land and I can see idk 8 -10 houses from where I shoot. I built a berm to make it safe and no houses down range ,but behind me are 5 houses in a row, they bought their lots off my father-in-law, the nearest one just over 500 feet from my range. We blast handguns ,shotguns and AK-47's with bump stocks( look it up ) . I try to avoid week ends, BUT its my land I'll do as i please the neighbors can always make an offer, then they can do as they please . If one does not own the land they hunt on,every year they hunted it was a gift. I lost 4 or 5 farms over the years myself, but I own one myself so I always have someplace to hunt . Good Luck

Welcome, from Webster ! 90 acres for the 2 of you, thats a good start ! the best lessons are the ones you'll learn in the woods, trail and error I guess.

Hey I like to see big racks as much as the next guy, sometimes its on TV, sometimes its at the gym ! I find each as elusive as the next however .

Amen and Thanks for starting this thread ! I'll never forget watching the second plane hit live on TV at the gym .Raising money for my NYC Brothers and marching in the rain to MSG a year later as all the names were read and crying w/ 50,000 of my Brothers. Never Forget !

Lots of rope worked ! I had about 25 feet of what most would call "climbing" rope with me,I tied it off went around the tree back through the stand around, under ,over, through, around, pulling tight as i went . Anyway its pretty solid

Loaded Gun + Unlocked Car = Stupid
Nomad replied to Deerthug's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Cool I can take stuff and if I get caught with it,that would be ok because I was going to give it back. That said I'm not in favor of leaving guns in cars since cars are broken into far more often then houses . 2 Guys I work with have put safes in their trucks, hidden, bolted down push button access makes it pretty fast. I put one in my trunk for the rare time I can't have my gun on me. Oh i forgot my loaded gun was in my car,oh I forgot to lock the car, oh i forgot it was out in the open....Ok gimme your gun, here's some pepper spray, don't point it at yourself ! -
GOLF ?? I'd rather slam my fingers in a car door... Yes I went from "party permits" with 3 of us needed to take one doe, to 2 doe tags, either sex tags, and 20 some Dmaps that the farm gets . I always say these are the Golden days of deer hunting. Used to be getting out with friends and family and a chance at a deer every few years was enough to make you a happy hunter for life.

Thanks ! I've got an old ASAT cover all and long sleeve T. I have a stand up this year in a great spot but not much cover, time for a fresh leafy ASAT suit. I used to get the "but where are the leaves and sticks" and "you goose hunting" comments. But I swear i get more deer in close and busted far less with ASAT. Its not made to look good to hunters.....

5.9 , I'm 5'9 190 and run between lg and xl lg . Any thoughts on the leafy suit size? they are out of LG.

1. Where you hunt, the ground whatever you call it. I know a guy who killed a buck every opening day for 23 years. For years I never even knew he hunted! When I did talk hunting with him, well he knew very little, but where to sit and smoke and drink coffee opening AM. Tons of deer even he scored 2. time afield 3.knowing your land I'm no great hunter but i got a very good spot that I've hunted for 25 years and LOTS of time to hunt. Have not been skunked since sometime in the '80's Just by knowing the woods here is how it happened last year. First time out in bow took a doe. Opening morning of gun took a nice buck, that afternoon put a friend in a stand he took a nice buck. Second morning of gun took a doe for a friend. I don't own scent loc, can't tell a thing by looking at a deers teeth, don't know phases of the rut, could not rattle in a buck, blowing in a call sounds like a duck if i do it,could not ell you what scent to use when. I just know where the deer are.

Got a letter from the Sherrifs Dept...
Nomad replied to nyantler's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Ya to us in Monroe county those restrictions are an odd thing. I've had a NYS permit since '85. Fla and Utah now too ,i'm good to go in 38 states ! Good Job on yours. Oh and NYC is one of the NYS SAFER cities btw -
Crap I was going to run the Beagle on the Hojack trail then I started to read this thread, now I'm outta time ! For the better I guess, would have got run over by all those dumb Southern tier deer....

May your best present come in the Fall wrapped in brown !

There is no question sabots and rifled barrels shoot better and farther. Myself I just never felt the need for another SG and high priced slugs. I hunt farm land, watching a field? ML. Thick brush and woods? My smooth bore . Funny part is my longest kills have been with the smooth bore . First year with the ML buck came out at 30 yards man I was good out to 150 kind of a let down, longest ML shot to date 75 yards . I guess I'll have to set up farther away from where i know the cross !
-
I first got it many years ago, and like it very much. The only things is the limited types of coats /pants .
-
Dropped last years buck in his tracks at a measured 100 yards with one Tru Ball out of my Browning BPS Buck Special (smoothbore) . I like to shoot 50-100 slugs prior to the season. Tru Balls you can get on sale w/ rebate for $1.49 a box.... So the only pain is in the shoulder !

Not walking but sitting in a hedgerow during turkey season I had a hot air ballon, practice touchdowns out in the field with my decoy ! It seems that flying saucers like to land in fields and take cows and hillbillies on a fair basis, i've always wanted to run into a UFO complete with aliens, while walking to my stand one dark morning. The Mrs. says i can't hang that in the familyroom, but she's said that before.... Deerpassion, I know many many guys who carry

I get a text, "you out ?","yep", " ok I'm going to cut such and such field, you might want to hop in stand # whatever.
-
Thats got me thinking, right now the ratchet strap goes from the sides of the stand and around,if I were to lash from the V close to the tree to the other side on the V as well as the strap in place now that may tighten it up some. Its not that small of a tree but odd shaped and small. I'm sure in the wind it'll move some though thanks

Ok I have to say i did not read all of this . Promote it where and when you can, have non hunting friends over for a venison cook out, bring some deer jerky, slim sticks ect to work.Have photos of your deer at the work place let people know you hunt ! Answer their questions . Everyone wants to be "green" and buy local food, well Hunters should be all over this ! Its an open door lets walk on in.This is one way the DEC should promote it," want to be GREEN ? wear ORANGE !! I have a friend who started hunting because of the deer he saw hanging from trees while doing his paper route ! He's VP of his state bow assc. and works pro bono fighting the antis in his western state. All because we hung our deer with pride back then ... Take someone hunting ! I took a friends son years ago he still hunts ! Ok I'll take some flack over this, but thats ok.Shorten the hunter ed/safety class.Put most of it online and have one night/day of hands on. Focus on SAFETY in the class. The class part on line would be consistent as everyone gets the same info not a night of 'me and Joe" stories some get I know kids who wanted to but never took the class because 3 free nights in a row don't exist for many kids today. In fact that was the hardest thing about the class for mine, with sports, clubs and a heavy school load being free from 5;30 to 10:30 3 nights in row was a challange. crap i gotta put a stand togather, see what this place does to a guy

On a few times I've had no choice but to use an odd shaped or small trunked tree. Like one this year along a smoken hot field. The trunk is a little small for the "V" in the stand and it moves a little. In the past i've built up and screwed in shims and that was ok. tomorrow i'm going to try some wedges. I just wonder if anyone has some great way i'm missing. Brace from under, wrap tree with heavy sheet of rubber IDK ? Thanks.
