  1. I got them on trail cam, my friend who lives down there knew them and talked to them, that worked for me.Traps set out to hurt or that can hurt could cost you everything, add in the fact you posted about it,now its clear who did it and why. I'd talk to the cops at least and or the dec cops, they were great when we had a poaching issue. They changed to night work hours, sat and watched, used the robo deer and talked to known poachers in the area looking for saws and knives with deer hair etc. in their barns and the like. I know one guy who hired an off duty cop to patrol.
  2. I'm lucky I have a job that gives me lots of hunting time without taking time off, but I take 2 weeks in bow and one in gun most years so i can hunt 3/4 of the days . The rut it where its at for me but I'll be out early for sure because I'm a hunter its what i do in the fall. I like mornings, ya the afternoon is good maybe better but I don't see them till its almost dark, and I hate looking fo,r dressing ,dragging in the dark or worse coming back the next day . Really hunt the AM come home go to the gym, work in the yard have supper with the Mrs. .Plenty of time to wash clothes get ready for the next day .Don't like getting home at 8;00 at night. But thats just me . Good luck.
  3. $3.50 a box and a 2 dollar per box rebate. 5 per rebate,so I bought 15 boxes as 3 seperate sales of 5,got 3 rebates and sales slips, clerk was fine with it. 3 kids behind me thought I was "stocking up'' ha , I keep 500 plus rounds per calibre at home, one said he never used more then a box all season,ya I used 2 slugs for 2 deer last year, but I think one should maybe PRATICE ....
  4. The walk through was 5 days before closing I had to go as my agent went out of town and did not have anyone cover or leave key at his office (yes that was a bad move on his part )... Yes its their house now. They went in it BEFORE the closing on there own yesterday then showed up at closing yesterday afternoon ( i was at work signed the papers ahead of time) saying the opener did not work and wanted $ At the walk through their agent kept saying the closing was that day or the next, I knew for a fact the bank had not cleared them yet it and was not going to happen for a few days but their agent became very rude and said it was all set..... I did not care for them going over on their own, entering the house, doing who knows what then showing up at closing saying now its broke give us money .I told my atty. cancell the sale and have them charged with trespassing. He gave me the 11th hour speach, its cheaper to do it this way yada yada. I reget that I folded to the blackmail. I'm sure I was not to clear in my posts I was very pissed still am . NO OFFENSE to the OP. I understand his frustration as well.
  5. I hunt Montana, like many guys out there its in a wall tent with wood stove. Some nights its been down to 6 degrees outside warm and toasty inside but you gotta feed the small stove every 3 hours. Yes a good bag and pad for around here. Now I use cots in the wall tent with wood stove, but with out a heater I prefer the ground as its often warmer then the air. A cot means colder air will be under you . If you use a heater then a cot may be more comfortable for you. Go for it some folks prefer winter camping, no bugs, no crowds, your camp fire may burn down 2 feet though....
  6. Ok I'l go with ya its not my field, but I was told we could make it so they stay out to recorded . As for the sellers doing as they please,um no .My goal is to sell yes, but walking in after final walk through alone and all the sudden things don't work and nobody is there to say differnt F'em. I got money my mom has money, another few weeks on the market is nothing to me. and yes it does seem like the bank attorney was the reason, but that was NOT the story the buyers were getting. thats why they try to keep the buyers and sellers apart,so agents and lawyers can keep them in the dark and feed them BS. I got 2 lawyers in the family and one best friend,i know the tricks they do to make themselfs look good while keeping clients in the dark .Like keeping clients one step behind in settlements so at the end it looks like they got them more money then they though they could. The whole thing was a horrible experience. from start to finish. Their agent was damanding a key 5 days before closing,I said sure give me 1xx,xxx K i'll give you a key, she brought her sick kid who ran around the house like it was his own big toy box . They were pissed because they had contractors set to start work on the house this week...before they own it... How do you do that before you own it ? How do you get permits before you own it ? Trust me they better have all permits and things done to code, something i happen to know a thing or two about . You want to trespass and NOW things don't work when they did at final walk through? trust me It'll cost you far more in the end. I know a codes guy who sits in his car and listens for the sounds of saws.... he goes through a lot of pens ! Game on! When i got the call today that they were at closing damanding $ for something I know works, ya I got pissed, and I'll settle it my way. Now lets hang some stands and hunt !
  7. Hum did not know lic. and doe tags were out yet, have to stop by the town hall next week. I go for 8h, but the farms gets a couple dozen dmaps so its moot , just get them for guests to use .
  8. I feel for you BUT I'm on the opposite side. I'm p.o.a for my Mom and selling her home,it closed today. The buyers have been going over to the house anytime they feel, its vacant as well, thing is without their agent, its trespassing. Vacant means NOTHING its not yours and not really at "closing" either but when the deed is recorded. They could keep you out to that point. They'd be a fool to let you in to paint before you owned it. what if you fall off a ladder, leave the door unlocked, and vandels destroy it, what if you who knows start it on fire, spill thinner that flashes 100 things could happen. So today before the closing our buyers stop by, find and unlocked door to the garage ( left open by my agent by accident earlier in the day ). They GO INSIDE open try to open the garage door,it doesn't because someone flipped the switch off. they now damand $$. It worked at final walk through, they trespass, break it or turn off the switch thinking its a light switch and want $$ .I thinking of criminal charges, and will check on that tomorrow seeing as how they stated they went inside in front of two lawyers and my agent, before they owned it,with out an agent present. Closing dates are a crap shoot, and often moved, they wanted to close 2 weeks ago... Their bank lawyer never cleared them, but their lawyer tried to blame our lawyer. trouble is my lawyer is my nephew and tells me the truth ( or won;t get the good stands this year...), when I told the buyers who was really slowing things up,their lawyer flipped out.Unless you know your lawyer better then your wife I would not trust him,he's always going to blame the other one. Good luck, but things never go smooth.
  9. Now that the nights are cooling down and we got some good rain, I think I'll camp out in my shooting shack Sunday night. Drive around glass the fields hang some cams. smoke a cigar, drink some Bushmill . Not worried about the camp fire burning the field now.... May even dust off my bow, but my shoulder is still healing some from heavy standing presses, that may have been to heavy.
  10. Over the years one of the things I've learned is most guys are guessing at heights and are way off, thinking they are higher then they are. I work with ladders and I use a known lenght haul line . One guy I know who is not a fan of heights said he now had his stand at 15 feet. I could stand under it and touch it with an arrow.......10 feet at best.
  11. I carry almost everyday since late 80's ? I guess some days like if things are getting funky in the city, cops shot someone etc. and the locals are getting edgy, I throw the a short barrel 12.ga. full of 00 in the trunk .
  12. Sorry I guess it did sound like bragging,Thats one of the things I love about knives there's one for every type. Customs and mid techs are not for everyone though, you lay out some bucks but often can make money on them if you buy right . Not sure how it'll come back to bite me its guaranteed for life, not mine but the makers as long as he's alive he'll fix and sharpen it. Oh my woman came with 116 acres of farm land and a cousin with 3,000 and does not care how much I hunt. Now thats bragging !!
  13. Hum lets see I get 3 knife mags in the mail, been in Blade Magazine 3 times wrote an article on knives for Tactical Gear... So i would say yes is a safe guess !! Right now I have Rick Hinderer XM 18 on me and a Vic. Soldier (sak) The XM 18 costs about $400 but since he does not take orders from joe sixpack, the demand is great and mine (slicer blade) can go for $1,200 on ebay. Don't ask what my watches cost...... I use a Old Timer Stockman (carbon steel) that i bought used at a gun show for 10 bucks to gut deer . All my knives not just shave but hair pops off my arms .
  14. Ya Ants its something I struggle with. That .380 is a dream to carry, and I have not worn long pants outside of 3 day per week at work in months... Cleaned the pool today with the LCP in my pocket... Can't wait till Biekirchs calls and says my S&W Sheild is in though !!!
  15. Ants, I agree. I don't want to bash the .380 I do have 800 rounds through mine and carry it from time to time. But here is what I struggle with and yes one can what if anything to death... But I want a gun that has a good chance of stopping someone coming after a family member. Lets say a road rager is chasing my 19y/o daughter with a bat, can i hit him across the driveway and stop him better with my .40 or small .380 ? Me shooting the LCP is a couple car lengths gun then groups open way up. Way better then the pre Larry Secamp small guns,Raven,Bobcat etc.though. I used to carry a 4 inch SW L frame in the 80's, the Glock is easy and a .38 snub with plus p I shoot well at 3xs the distance of the LCP and almost as easy to carry. Yet I own one....... Great front camo pocket gun for times when guns are not allowed .
  16. I have a friend who moved from here to Wash. state, he comes back here to hunt....Ok Montana also. But then I'm in western NY on a 3,000 acre farm where I have about 200 acres posted for my use only. I could kill a deer 50% of the time I hop into a bow stand. Towards the ADK its a lot harder. Taxes may be higher idk some out there are very high as well, but houses are dirt cheap .
  17. Me fixed cut on contact 2 blades. Since I started with these IDK 15 years ago? I had to "track" 2 deer. The rest dropped in sight often less then 30 yards away. The deer don't run off like they were kicked . Thats worth a lot to me. Yes fixed and field point should fly the same mine have always, which is why I consider mech. to be a solution in shearch of a problem.
  18. Biggest cal. you can shoot well. Myself I have carried most days since the late 80's Started out with a SW 586 .357 mag. Since Glock came out with the .40 cal mod. 23 its mostly that with 13rd mags. My small light gun is a .38 snub with plus p's I do own a LCP .380 with houge handalls grip ( really really nice grips) and Critical defense ammo. I'm not a big fan of .380 and not for first line self defense. Small guns are hard to shoot well and a small gun in so so cal. beats a sharp stick at a distance up close not so sure.... though. The basic rule is look at what the cops carry 9, 40,45 ... I'm on the waiting list for a SW Sheild along with 70 others......
  19. One thing I'd like to point out is KNOW YOUR EXITS. Where money or tickets are collected you enter through one door, 99.9 % leave that way even if its out of their way,in times of emergency as well. You can leave through any exit in normal times, let alone something like this. The " Great White" bar fire is a classic example people jammed up at the front door and died, many went right past other exits, plus those big windows right next to the front door would fall to any bar stool. One can seldom go wrong doing opposite of the masses. and yes I try to sit near an aisle, and always know the exits. This is not anything against the victims, just trying to help get folks thinking.
  20. Not trying to be a wise guy, this time... But what is the point of using these ? to follow the arrow and see point of impact? to find arrow after? both ? Its rare for me not to have a pass through and find my arrow buried 4 inches into the ground a little past where the deer was, I think since I started in '88 2 ran off with arrows in them, one dropped in sight one my beagle found. I use bright nocks and fletching to see point of impact it works good enough for my 53 y/o eyes. Keep in mind I shot fingers off a simple flipper untill a few years ago,use a fixed 2 blade and one pin.Used my first compound for 18 years, so i'm not one to go for the latest greatest thing each year. Thanks
  21. Same here always used smoothbore. A BPS Buck Special, now using truballs. Last years buck dropped in his tracks at a walked off 100 paces . I do the Gander sale as well, bring the guys from work so I can load up.... As for ammo, buy it cheap and stack it deep. Its not ever going to back down in price.
  22. Waterskiing, swimming, cigar smoking, bike riding. Manyt of my stands stay up, one new one has been up and lanes cut couple months back. Sometime in August I'll shoot few arrows, but I know my first 3 will be shot at 40 yards and 3-4 inch group like every past year. Working out is a plus, I do a lot of deadlifts, cleans and 100's of chin ups per week, drawing and holding is a snap I never get sore or have to "work out" my bow muscles by shooting.
  23. Sad for sure. Not unexpected to me. I'm 53 been going out on boats for 53 years, got my first one of my own at age 12. Just got in from skiing, swimming and cruising Irondeqoute bay and lake Ontario. I never go out on weekends and try to be off by noon or so on nice days like today. Why ? most boaters have little clue about how to opperate the craft safely, the laws, let alone common courtesies . Fill the cooler, hit the throttle....
  24. I'm a union member and to make matters worse a gov. worker...I belong to the international Assc. of Fire Fighters , like the majority of my union i'm a conservative . I know thats not what Rush says..... I vote conservative oh and get this my dues money can not be used for politcal purposes, I know not what rush says again. Just like the NRA can't use dues money so they have the ILA, PVF, to raise money, unions have to do the same. I never have given and know one I know has. In the 23 years as a FF my raises have been a one time high of 4% ( in the '90's when the market was doing great) to some zeros like this year. the ave. have been 2 to 2 1/2 % . My wife's in the private sector have been much better . We have cut jobs, demoted people, taken zero raises, the starting pay is not much higher then mine 23 years ago .We get it,times are hard and we have responded . Oh and in this liberal Dem city the cops and FF went 3 years with out a contract, they fought us on everything . i guess they never got the memo that we put them in office and now they owe us like Rush says its how it works. july 1st i get my raise of 0 % . Its ok my wife got 4 % and a nice profit sharing check this year. I'm NOT complaining I love my job and do well, but the view from here is often differant then the one painted elsewhere. And yes i think the story of that started this is a wrong and things are in need of changing .
  25. Sold to Justin's friend. Thanks ! Turns out he used to hunt with the guy right behind my hunting land, and in years past we most likely hunted togather a time or two !!
