No other hunters in my spot, you'd have to cross fields of 1/2 mile or more in some directions to find another guy . Now in years past before I had control of the land, and everyone drove eveything.... We'd hang up old orange coats and vests in the woods when we left for lunch or another spot. The woods is almost 1,000 feet off the road, so even with bino's one can't tell its just a coat. I've heard of guys hanging very sweaty cut up t shirts upwind of spots...." Larry why you taking yout shirt home from the gym in a zip lock bag ? " About the best way to use the wind i know .

I hunt a farm of 2,000 and some acres, I know they were trying to get the beans in and think they have. The corn around me is low and thin the deer are easy to see in it. I hope they try to hide in it....

8H 9 out of first 11 days if needed ! just saw the largest bodied buck ever at 7:00 then 8:00 - 8:30 in some very thin and low corn,2 does near him that he did not care about at all... I hope he's in 8H sat too good luck boys

I'm off 11 out of the first 13 days of SG i love to hunt just hope it doesn't take them all ! Opening day I'll be with my 22 y/o daughter who's coming home from grad school for her first OD. She has the green light for anything, everyone else is held to muture bucks and does. Even when i shoot a buck right off,like last year at first light I still hunt all day, and the next and any day my buddies are going.

Ok now its officially hunting season ! Can kill 'em with out a pack full of GSC . I may now even go out a couple more times in bow . Caramel deLites by sunrise .

Hunt 8h North of 5/20. It had been real slow.I put in lots of time saw 6 or 7 nice bucks at distance , very few young bucks, even less doe was a weird year. UNTILL last thur. morning 17-20 deer by 8:00 bucks running does all over grunting,necks streched out, it was nuts. fri. 10 deer by 9;00 or so 2 bucks ran in after my friend grunted. yesterday ZZZZ........ back to normal !

Thanks.Trouble is the first time she goes up will be opening moning hope she's comfortable up there. going down tomorrow, to put in gun holder,strap for harness to tie into. I don't use holders for gun or bow and i keep a rope on me to tie off,trying to make it easy for her.I'll build a b/u blind as well. A nice one has been moving by around 10 ;00 though hope she can sit like Dad. The farm has muture buck only rules in place, she has the green light for anything though.She's good with her .20ga 870, shes cut apart cadavers and been in on an open heart surgury, she says gutting a deer is nothing. Hope to find out.

Hum my thoughts were 1 and 3. I've hunted this piece idk 25 years. I have it to myself posted the whole bit, 25 acres woods 15 thick brush ten or so field 100's of acres crops. the other woods and creek bottoms are off a bit, but they get pushed out and run to another piece . Talked to her tonight says she would sit in a ladder stand. I have one right between the intersection and where I would build a ground blind.

I did not read this whole thread,but I say good job ! My first bow kill was also a button back in '88 my first year bow hunting and one of my favorite hunts . A bunch of us at work started bow hunting the same year and I was the only one to score, that ticked off many THAT alone was worth a lot. Hey any one can hit a BIG target !

Ok , i'll play yesterday morning I'm hunting with my friend Joe, ( almost always bow hunt alone) so while waiting for him to pick me up I glance at my bow and pile of stuff . For some reason" I think, I'll draw the bow back " don't ask my why . Well it draws smooth and silent, on let down it gets a weird feel, MY RELEASE WAS ON THE CABLES!! Its now between cam and cable,well the cable is off the cam ! No morning hunt for me I sat in truck,at 8:30 was at near by bow shop, $5 and 2 minutes good to go.

Lasy Thur. AM in 8H crazy. Saw 17 -20 deer by 8:30 or so. Bucks running does all over, bucks grunting and running open fields in the dark as I walked in. Saw a nice buck go into thick brush tipped the 'can' twice he was under my stand less then a minute later, then ran after some other running deer.... Yesterday, I messed up my bow while waiting for Joe to pick me up.... I sat in truck waiting for bow shop to open. Joe saw 7 deer called in two bucks, heard a bunch of running, grunting all in first hour, I had 3 doe walk to with in 30 yards of truck. Thats 30 deer in a hand full of hours lots of bucks chasing does necks streched out grunting like mad. I don't know much about pre rut, post rut, seeking phase, moon phase, set phasers on stun, I just know they were running all over.

Ok my oldest has had her deer lic. for a few years but only had time for a couple hours over Thanks Giving . I told her get here for opening day and I'll give up my hunt to sit with you ,opening day is your best chance to kill one. So this year its on. Now the hard part where to sit. I don't think she'll climb up into a stand, so I've got 3 choices. 1. make a blind under,near one of my better spots 2. I hunt farm land and there are drainage ditches all over. At one spot they split some thick brush in two, the farmer mows 20 feet on each side, and another ditch comes out of brush into it close by, so lots of ditches and openings along thick cover. Looks good but i NEVER sat there so i don't know movement. 3."The intersection" this is a spot up on a rise in big open fields. Deer get pushed out of near by hardwoods and creek bottoms into open field and have to run 1/4 to 1/2 mile to next cover always seem to go to this spot then on to cover,hence 'the intersection". Been good in past. BUT this year 3/4 of the fields are standing corn. Which makes me think instead of running 1/2 mile to next woods they may stay in corn. I went up there and corn is low and thin and you could shoot into corn easy,lots of tracks by unpressured deer. Not sure if its a good escape route this year though. Yesterday morning waiting for Joe to pick me up pulled back my bow for some reason... release was on string ! It slid down under cam on let down went between cam and cable, cable came off cam. No morning hunt for me ! 24 years of keeping it on cables. Joe sat in stand had bucks coming into grunt calls right and left,biggest was a borded line 9pt,which he passed. I had 3 doe walk up to truck as I waited for local bow shop to open. Ten deer seen in morning hunt/truck sit. Bow fixed for 5 bucks. Afternoon hunt on Joes new land in Wayne county. I saw one nice buck to far. Something needs to go down in a couple hours here .

WOW crazy morning. By 7;30 I saw between 17 and 20 deer. Bucks chasing does all over from each direction. bucks running and grunting open fields as i walked in, jumped 'em in woods, buttons to 2 1/2's under my stand . Never saw so many so fast .

Well tonight sat in thick brush stand. Bucks running does, grunting the full bit. Nothing close, in this spot they gotta come into a small clearing which they do just not tonight. Some nice sized does off a bit on mowed edge of the thicket. Good to see some numbers for once this year. Back at it in the morning. Figure i got 6 more days i can bow hunt before gun, wow that came fast. Tomorrow the wind is to be from the south ,then north,then nnw,then west, holy crap.

No what he's taken was the hope of many college students and graduates to find work outside a Mall. lucky for us our 2 are in medical and acct,. fields and will have a good shots at work, plus they each date guys in Med school... Gun and ammo sales can't go much higher, the gun /ammo companies are working 3 shifts right now. Watch the market today if it drops the day after a Pres. election it will be lower at the end of his term 74% of the time . I moved a large chunk into cash a few months back, but I have a 4% fixed rate good for 5 years . Oh and they don't know about ALL my guns...

Well no luck on out smarting the "big one" as he did not come through the woods last night. I did have a very dumb deer though. Just as it was getting time to climb down a deer shows up, a doe,ok I fugure I'll fill the freezer,its the end of this hunt anyway perfect time. I'm trying to get a good look as it comes in,kinda small... Then it beds down in the open woods, less then 30 yard from me.. Ok maybe I can get it to stand, i grunt,nothing,I snort,nothing,whisle,nothing bang my release on the bow about ten times....lays there. Time goes by I lower bow on to leaves,toss coat to ground, climb down in the Lone Wolf climber,get on ground, its standing 15 yards away... as I pack up bang the stand around throw it on my back ect. it circles me at 10 yards . i really hope this deer breeds A LOT ! Yard work today,out this afternoon and thur, fri, sat, sun AM then back on nights!

Done. Came out of woods to vote, run the dog,take care of a few things,back to the woods now .

Why does'nt anything like that ever happen to me? All i had was a few old folks, and some over weight suburban Moms. No fun to be had there.

I read this because almost everyday the last few I've been out the same 4pt has been around,he busted me last night and 2 days prior as I walked in a green field at 10:00,altough he came from 150 to 50 yards before he caught on. This morning here he comes again.... stayed at 15-30 yards for over 30 minutes,kind of annoying as i figured at some point I'd be busted and he'd run off snorting up a storm. That never happened saw another young one and a few unknown off a bit. If he's around opening day when my daughter is home from college, he's done for !

Ok dressed better no wind or wet snow ! Bumped one on way in, got with in 15 yards , as I was walking slowly in green field it was just inside woods. Ran off a bit never snorted nor crashed through the whole woods,3 or so more steps and I could smell a strong musk odor. On stand saw 5 deer a button and the same fork I see most days stayed at 15-30 yards for better then 30 minutes. I left at 10:00 came home to vote ! do some errons ,run the dog who's been inside a lot. Tonight going back with my climber,setting up where a nice one has been coming through open woods at last light, we'll tonight....fingers crossed.

Hunted all day. Cold ! sat in 3 stands,with ok I took couple 1/2 or so breaks in the car to warm up, would have used my hut but no sleeping bag in it now. Saw 4 bucks one doe. 2 shooter bucks,1 at 10;00 on a mission in and out of thick stuff checking golden rod.The other nice buck at last light moving through hardwoods . 2 young bucks came out in to corn field 4:30 and then the second 4:45 after the first one saw me after a bit, and stared then finally blew and ran back into brush. Even colder tomorrow, pulling out insulated cover alls !

I always said the deer aren't turning back any clocks why should I ? I take off this week most years and leave my clocks alone, till I go back to work the 14th .
