hum I'm not alone. I had a partner for years we hunted well togather. I have access to a great piece of farm land, all to myself (ourself) posted the whole bit. For almost 25 years now. He had the run of the place too.Extra dmaps, a place to dry off eat lunch etc. hang as many stands as he wanted all for free . Then he bought a few acres not far away, a camp, cabin all that. Never got an invite or heard from him again . Your welcome......

Nice pics. Here in Webster there is a spot where 15 or so come into a yard most days. Its next to a little shop with a rear parking lot. I have drove up to within 15 yards of them and called from my van and had Toms head my way.... felt like opening the sliding door.... if you want true city birds theres plenty in down town Rochester in the river gorge real beard draggers, some great bucks too.

Oh well i guess I'll send mine back....oh hey might be good for the wifey !

Where it is will be a factor."Upstate" to many around NYC/LI means all the rest of the state, to me it means the area just above NYC. How good is the hunting and so on. You say its a farm, I own farm land and rent it out to well, a farmer. It covers the taxes and makes us a grand or so. 116 acres. No matter how big it is if its taxed at an ag rate and its good ground the rent should cover the taxes. If its great deer hunting ,hunters may very well pay more then farmer brown. But you'd be well advised to see a lawyer as once you charge to hunt, your liabilies have shot way up. Good luck.

I aged but never grew up.Lets see i have a gun (if you count a .380...) in my back pocket sitting here in the family room,so ya I carry everyday most of the day woods, city or town. I was born and raised in a town that was pretty rural back then, lived in a city for a few years to get on the job.Now back in the 'burbs . Many of the farmers I know where i hunt and own land carry in the woods, and the tractors, trucks etc. Most bow hunters i know do as well. Hell if you can't carry a gun in the woods......

Think your taxes were bad this year?
Nomad replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
When corporations and business are taxed more another thing that happens is the cost is passed on to those who buy their goods and services.... So who ya sticking it to ? -
Mega Millions Jackpot - More than 1/2 Billion Dollars
Nomad replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Same here the lotto is a tax on folks with poor math skills.BUT a few times a year I'll do the dollar and dream thing. So I'm in Hegadorns(sp ?) buying 10 bucks worth when this older guys says " you got better odds of being attacked by a bear', "GREAT I say I clean bear cages at the zoo"..... Now go mind your own business. -
Oh ya one can get dozens of them in an hour driving around a housing track in early Jan. Some string a wire and lean them up for "screening" to give deer a place to cross a open area, like between a woods and thick cover but there is a mowed path or lane. This gives them one spot across it with cover. Just re read your post.... I'm talking REAL ones they'll last a couple years.

Thanks all. I guess I got more homework to do. I'll try Gander to see if any are set up now. I'm liking that they hold up being up for a few months. Oh and Doc. I'll take ANY info on setting them up ,hiding them types of chairs, buckets whatever to sit on, staking down, use in any way . It will be some what protected from the elements and an easy quite walk to it . When I say cost is not a factor, well I don't mind a cheaper one that lasts, but I've found paying once and crying once, beats re buying cheap things over and over and crying each time.

Ok I want one for a thick area with no trees that are good for even a ladder. We bush hog 14 foot wide paths in there and plenty of natural trails. I'd like it for bow as well as gun. Be able to shoot 3 of the 4 compass points. I plan on leaving it up from before bow through gun .Cost is not a factor. Well built is. From my search so far I kinda like Primos double bull Darkhorse.Just started to look though... Thanks.

But there are plenty of well off folks who will, I know more then one who's watch cost that much . Some not all that well off too, I work with a guy( I'm a firefighter) who has one rifle alone that cost 10k,he built a vault in the basement of his new house. 10K IS a lot if your young and just starting off, with little to go in it yes. Send two kids through college till they get Masters degrees, and your view on costs change...

I did not watch the video yet. I'll address the fire ratings though. I worked at the worlds first and still largest maker of fire safes for 9 years, the next 22 as a firefighter.... Fire ratings to mean anything need to be U.L. listed period. Those with them mean A LOT. U.L. stakes their reputations on them and they work very well. There are many ratings 1/2 hour, hour so forth. Some are heated, dropped 20 feet like if they fell a couple floors into a basement,re heated and the papers and such inside must be undamaged. We got letters all the time from folks who lost everything but the papers and such inside the firesafes. If a company sells fire safes with there own 'rating" and not U.L.'s there is a good reason for that, they won't pass U.L.'s . There are 2 main types of safes, fire safes and RSC(residential security containers) one for fires one for theft....sometimes combined all should have ratings if you want to trust them. Also keeping them out of sight and installed correctly goes along way... As for gun safes. years back its was a cheap $100 locker type or a expensive high dollar one. marketing studies showed most gun owners had a few guns whose totel value was LESS then the good gun safes cost, so they did without. This brought about the mid price point ones of today ,and they took off big time. Then some started making cheap ones that looked as good.... this forced some makers to join the race to the bottom, because Joe 6pack kept wanting cheaper. As was already said, you get what you pay for. For keeping young kids away from guns or a smash and grab burgler most cheaper ones will work. Would I put thousands of dollars worth of things in a $500 safe? No way Jose. OH and buy BIGGER then you think you'll need. Its kinda like tents "sleeps 6" means 4 at best.... then you'll always buy more guns and stuff anyways,so buy BIG.

Now that I'm getting rid of my mini van I will be getting one of these as well for my car. For 20 years i've hunted out of a mini van.I take all the middle and rear seats out ,cut a piece of carpet to fit. I keep 2 totes of clothes and gear in it, sleep in it,get dressed inside it.With the electric door its closes with very little noise.Oh and not bad MPG I use a trap and bring a few deer a year home inside it. Oh and with two large sliding doors and low ground clearance its easy for one guy to load 'em ! i'm going to miss all that, really a perfect hunting vehicle. I know not cool or manly for those that need that. Now it'll be a Civic with hitch hauler ! the 2 inch ones say 500# weight limit, now your good to go deer wise,if you start using it for other stuff, make sure you got a class 3,4,or 5 hitch, not 1 or 2 they are not rated for 500 #

New Yorks Latest Crossbow Legislation News
Nomad replied to sits in trees's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I'm joining that group. I have no plans to use one at this point, I feel todays compounds are superior ,unless drawing is an issue. Anytime compound compete against xbows in meets compounds win..... But as I age and shoulders hurt more I may have to settle for one. Personally I could care less what another guys uses. Ohio has had crossbows in archery season for well over 30 years, the crossbow kill rate is 2% higher, the deer heard is strong, the sky did not fall....... -
I feely admit I know little of scoring never had one done, little interest in having one done. BUT it was scored at the sportsman show by some group that goes all over the North East scoring them.

Trophy takers 2012 shed hunting pics
Nomad replied to trophy taker's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
I find quite a few dead ones every year here where life is worth living. Lots of stands and roads ,like TT said. Found a nice 9 pt a month ago was'nt dead more then a couple days. -
As for guides ,just what is a guide ? when my buddies from out west come back east , I have them hop in my stands that i scouted for and so on. So am I a guide? Is its some great advantage when they use my stands but real hunting if I sit there ? Lets all just go hunt !
