  1. OMG how many hours did I crack those things together...and was I ever good at it...yep landed me in the principals office more than once! Chip a tooth or two as well bruises cracked wrist bones...yep and a good defensive weapon.... Being raised nearly the only girl in a neighbor hood of boys...was rough, competitive and a hell of a lot of fun...The only girl around with a mini bike and pocket knife...lol
  2. The more I read the replies the more I'm inclined to say ...why bother worrying about saying anything to him...His land his views and if as you say people razz him when he shoots a young deer...perhaps he is saying what OTHERS want to hear. Then I think, are these guys razzing him hunting his land and doing so?...Talk about not being much of a friend...yes the more I think about this the more I think something else is going on...He has no problem passing deer on other peoples property. Why should anyone care what he shoots on his? This isn't directed toward you chas, just thoughts on what I'm reading...no one, I mean no one! Should be chastised for what ever animal they choose to shoot and be put on the defensive...ESPECIALLY off their own hunting grounds.
  3. Oh it's never ending...I keep reminding Mr B ...they don't stop growing or dying for that matter...always work to be done.
  4. Sweet and congrats.. Where abouts in Texas? We have family in Keller and Houston...so if we ever get out that way I'd like to get a hunt in...very expensive? Be nice to stay close by with family and still hunt...I'd love to hog hunt...
  5. LOL .....We aren't getting as much as expected...I couldn't shovel for it was very light and fluffy...So I got out my trusty corn broom and swept the entire drive, turn arounds, around the garage to kennel and around the mail box...100 yrd drive to the garage..makes one appreciate ....the vacuum cleaner I got my cardio and upper body work out, cleaned her to the dirt and enjoyed the weather....
  6. Actually that's 1 degree high then it use to be...but the winds have been so strong it lets cold air into the kitchen stove vent...We have a program 62 all day and the at 4 it goes to 64. Then at 9 it goes to 62 and at 4am it goes to 64 until 6am... Mr B isn't out side like I am and gets chilled...64 and I'm sweating...I just came in from working and I'm down to a short sleeve work out shirt and tights and sweating....My body temperature runs higher than most people...I have a real difficult time during summer heat..only times I've ever passed out...So This is really my time of year...this spring and fall. As long as the winds aren't whipping..Today is a great ,great day out there. I make our own ice cream when we want it. we have two 6 quart outside ice cream makers but those are for the Holiday ice cream. I use the kitchen aid one for us...works slick and is fast, cheaper and healthier than store bought.
  7. and hunting is paying off. I haven't had to shop this week and I may only need to pick up milk and lettuce next week... The store tomatoes have been so nasty , Mr B has been enjoying the dried ones I made on his salads... I froze just about ever veggie possible and stocked up on the "fresh stuff" during Christmas. Stored right broccoli,Cauliflower, and summer squashes last a long time in a proper fridge. I even put up enough "snack stuff to keep him happy few a few weeks..lol For a person that HATES spending money...This has me very happy...Today I open up a few pumpkins and make one of his favorites roasted spiced(Cajun) pumpkin seeds...then I'll make up some pumpkin snack bars and a pie...Warm the kitchen up enough with the oven( I keep the house at 62) to get some yeast to rise and make some bread...
  8. Greg I'm surprised the radar showed a huge blue cloud streaming along the edge of the lake headed our way...we actually got the snows 3 hours earlier than it showed They weren't do until a bit after 10a.m. I'm headed out to get my walk in and do the drive...I could handle even sub zero temps as long as there is no wind...the only time I enjoy a good wind is on a hot summers day!
  9. I always loved driving through there and seeing the doors on some places on the second story. Mr B was doing the fort housing up there when the kids were babies. We would drive up for visits once in a while...He would be stuck there during the winter ,not being able to drive back on weekends..I actually would call and tell him not to even think about coming back in that weather...Same when they had jobs in Buffalo,no driving allowed.
  10. Doesn't it figure...15 degrees and nearly no wind....I suppose that evens it out a bit...snow has picked up good...I see you guys to my West are getting dumped on. Calling for 3" here...looks like my out side work will be shoveling the drive ,so it doesn't turn into an icy mess again. The ole temps will be low for the next few days...I see winter may be a roller coaster. I Actually hope...better than those weeks of sub zero we had last year and the year before..
  11. There's a ballistics chart and yes depends on how he cuts and what he wants...there is ABSOLUTELY no fat nor "silver" on /in my deer cuts I do not fool around with any part of the leg but the Hams...I will not cut and grind ,I cut to grind the day I defrost. So there are no little pieces saved..I thoroughly clean out the neck roasts...those are the only cuts to have any "junk" attached. never use rib meat...So if he is picky..He will get a lot less meat...If he has dogs and feeds them nothing goes to waste. As far as his statement on the guns...looking at that chart...it depends on how far he personally shoots...that may have been his thought behind the statement. For me personally...I do the work on our land...Even Mr B knows to tread so very lightly on any comments or suggestions.
  12. Until May 1... https://youtu.be/lf-nTIheG9s https://youtu.be/mTi6W02Txdk https://youtu.be/MVExb6FlITY
  13. Worked a few more hours on it today. We are having very high winds...big surprise there! So All I can do is continue to knock over the dead slashings and mark the dead trees I need to use a saw on... That wood lot which was pretty much a sanctuary, in which I never hunted in it ,have stands and blinds bordering it along with pots on three side. The section was a very thick stand of mostly maple slashings the pictures below shows how thick, and has seriously died back. The turkeys are on the side where oak and plots are and the buck ran into that area and I shot him from the edge of the laneway...the trees were very very close together......We have a canker and a little white grub attacking our maples. That and hey, crowding = no sun. No sun ='s unhealthy soils....and dying smaller trees... So I have pushed over most 1/2-2" caliper trees and by the time I go in and cut out the standing dead timber and the V split junk trees with some dying ash. I will have a very rocky ,highly acidic blank slate with a mixture of Sugar maples, red oaks some ash and a few cherries. I should have done this a few years ago but I didn't have the fence up and this is the area that the "1 acre hunting camp" continuously poached ,trespassed on and nearly shot, myself and daughter..Now that the fence is up and the brush pile fence that now boarders this woods is getting high enough to obstruct his view ,I can do what I've wanted to. That is create a real bedding sanctuary... Thankfully I have many close V trees I can hing and many oak canopies to open up with hinging....plus I will install a small watering hole and create some "green" areas and several brush spots. Right now nothing but moss and I believe rocks grow there. So.... right now I will continue to drop the dead stuff, but the real work is hauling all that dead stuff to the brush pile fences...I'm talking hundreds and hundreds of 15-30 ft saplings Today I push and hauled and it doesn't look Like I put a dent in it...This is a chugging away bit by bit project...I hope to have done by next fall...the area is 200x300 yards that connects to a mature wood lot of maples on one end and mature oaks along with plots on one side...The lane way on another and the main front food plot at the other end. there are no stand in it just around it...The mature Maple woods at one end has stands on either side but not where I'd be walking directly in to sit...Though I did put a trail there due to construction on the lane way plot and it's wide openness to the neighbors swamp...I have since put a trail right along the brush pile fence to avoid that area
  14. That's great! Congrats to you all. You and your daughters hunt and Cabin Fever for being a part of it in his generosity...Kudo's
  15. Google the corporations name and operation officers....you should be able to get a list...an ex: "Ford corporation operations officers" got me this: http://corporate.ford.com/company/governance.html If it's a big corporation, do a search for just that division...you'll probably get more names...specific people to ask for when calling
  16. Here's the Cummings link , They are in Geneva NY , and a few others... http://www.cumminsnursery.com/price.htm http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/9395.html http://waflernursery.com/index.php http://www.schichtels.com/fruit_trees http://www.nurseriesonline.us/Wholesale_Nurseries/Wholesale_State/New_York.htm https://www.acnursery.com/fruit-trees PA
  17. When when in the double H L( it's a saying I heard years ago) will people wake up and realize NOTHING is FREE...Nothing. So Cuomo is trying to giving away more of your money and is trying to "Lead the way" to not only him taking it, but the feds doing so as well. Yes the whole country college is free. Oh wait hold the the boat...for those of you making ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND or LESS a year. I wonder often......... Why certain people just can't choke on a chicken bone, sandwich, aspirate on a Manhattan, develop a unknown allergy to, anything...Why is it Mother nature can't be a bit more selective in her " randomness of unexpected tragedies". She has to see these "do Gooders" bumbling around screwing so many lives up to make themselves look and feel good. Why is it that bunches of good people are always in the wrong place at the wrong time and these types of people skip along dropping their little turds for the rest of us to clean up?...OK I'm done. It took me longer to clean this up than expected
  18. Kinder would have been to get him into a facility in one of the other times they said they had to deal with him and his mental problems. Notice all this todo over a kitchen knife. When will they be doing mental heath back ground checks to allow cutlery purchases....
  19. I've never noticed this..I will look thanks.....How do I get it to stop making it's own sentences?...I did some reading, the new ones have cameras now. The reviews are in the dumper. I might just give it up and go buy a new phone. We have exhausted our search for the other one. I've lost all the pictures I had of River on it. Just never got around to down loading them, too many lessons relearned. Just finding it difficult, it's so very nice not having to answer a phone. I realized the other day while out and about, no one ever looks up any more. It is a quick glance to make sure they aren't being "crowded" or to make sure they aren't about to run in to something. Well spending money, we have it,I have a real problem parting with it. It will probably take me another 6 mos. to move on and get the phone...wouldn't have gotten the last but our daughter had to upgrade for her job and we bought her "older" one. All the Kindle is used for is talking to you guys when not near the computer and checking the weather and e-mails....
  20. Then I'll stand corrected and drop it. That said though, stand by taking shots that one is fully confident in,which can only be achieved through .......God blessing one with the the dedication to ...practice practice, practice
  21. Well we are eating haddock baked with a topping of slivered almonds lightly toasted in olive oil....peas and broccoli/cauliflower. With a side of brown rice. I have to say....the fish is awesome
  22. Thus the hunting club suggestion most clubs have some woman involved...if only during such events.. This would allow people to meet and greet find their best connections and circle of help.
  23. Oh Apple's...Apple skins contain a compound that increases your metabolism. So an Apple a day can keep the Dr. away Bill.
  24. Goosifer..Lol I don't know about that.. for all I do and how we eat...I'm still way over weight...I have to do this in order to not gain more and just move..between years and years of injuries and arthritis...if I don't keep moving I'll seize up like tin man in a rain storm...
