Congrats everyone on nice deer ... I took a doe at 4:17 pm today...at noon I heard a shot that sound like it was on our place so grabbed a orange hat and off I went...I was outside stringing lights at the time...walked the perimeter and no tracks of ppl coming on or off us..... so on the way back I checked cams.... well from deer tracks over night and cam pics I knew where to sit....I left at 3pm and settled in at 3:30....at 4:pm I had a tiny fawn charge in, out to about 90yrds ...hit a trail and ran away from me and circled back...she stopped to watch her back trail ...and so did I...I saw movement about 120yrds out up on another trail moving away...not long after I saw several deer come charging through our woods...a big doe was 80 yrds out and broad side...I led her and squeezed off a shot when she hit the open lane...it was a miss but behind her and that changed her course to coming right into me....she was now quartering slightly away and down in the gully....stepped into another opening and I shot 60yrds...dropping her...but she let out a blat and tried getting up so I made another quick shot that put her down...the first shot hit forward in her shoulder breaking it and exited her lower neck the second hit the top of her spine in front of her hind quarters....actually the skin and muscle over her back bone...the concussion dropped her...but she went fast after that for the shoulder shot took out a lung and artery.....I know there is a great buck as of 12-9-11....but a lot of shots all around today so who knows...I will check it out in the morning then my deer season is done and squirrel and yote start for me...was I'm set for the holidays that is

57 with the hide on? that would be a yikes for me....when temps are warm ...I skin immediately......If temps are due to fall at night 40 or below I cover it with a game bag. then fill and tied bags of ice in and around body....quarter the next day if temps are to go above 40 and let it finish Bleeding in a cooler on ice for a couple of days .... or in a refrigerator...just keep it out of the blood....In cold weather a week

You guys are doing better than me ...decided to switch it up and go out at 10:30am and still hunt 40 of our acres....I walked the perimeter and glassed inside....not one single track going on or coming off the property....nothing near any of the food plots .....just two sets of fox and the squirrels are hammering the corn...rabbits the clovers

What gets me is they say just look at the browse line and there is no under story growth...well duhhh....now take the time to look up and see the tree canopy....when timber prices were good we and many others logged...for us it was a selective logging and it brought about a great amount of under story growth....for about 5yrs...then oppps every thing started dieing the minute the caterpillars decreased in Numbers and the canopy filled in....now all young trees dying and little vegetation....but timber prices are so low no one wants to log...but the deer are getting the blame...Lets remember when the regrowth started and all those tops were a critter friendly tangle.... deer weren't the only thing taking advantage...turkey...chucks...raccoons...voles(which are one of the worst tree girders)...rabbits...ect....do you think they just packed up and left over night?..AAUUUGGGHHH don't get me going

Team work...gotta love it...that's too funny....I had a another female shepherd that was hell on chipmunks...She'd catch them and some how stretch them out ...they'd look like those door draft stoppers...hahaha and then she'd leave them on the deck for us.......and all of them hate voles...the "boys" dad use go voleing with me in the garden...he'd catch them ....toss them into the air and munch them down...crunchy little things they are...lol

Yes It was a nice dusting that let me see every thing from my ridge stand....Holy cow was it cold...but I've waited to hunt that stand in snow for it lets me see all movement on about 20acres and over looks a gully they will bed in when cold and windy....nothing..... had to come in for a defrost my bones break and crossed the tracks of a lrg buck...He came through last night before it froze the ground...headed straight for the swamp next to us...probably laughing as he walked with in 10yrds of 3 stands and two ground blinds as he crossed our place...Oh well thems the breaks...going to try and catch him before my alarm goes off tonight....

Ohhh it's going to be cold out there today...10mph winds and 25degrees....Please Hunting Gods send me some deer....Good luck

I tell ya ...if one of my loved ones hit an animal that size and was seriously injured or killed I sued the farm and the DEC for lack of over sight of a facility registered under one of their permits

the fog lifted at 4pm...figures but heyheyhey snow replaced it ....and she is cold and white out right now....hell or high waters I'm going to be in a stand tomorrow...now if the winds hold off...good luck guys

NY hunters are just racking up a tally in the hall of shame this year...but whats going on? ...private reserve and here we are hearing of not only this but a few other escapes...if the DEC wants to hand out special permits for these places.... they'd pull there heads out and start doing a better job of policing and inspecting them...but that would be hard I suppose when you have whats been found within the DEC...any buddy read the latest NYOutdoor news?...Nothing like clocking in a few times a week and heading out to a local bar...or racking up 35,000 or so in extra pay and benefits you didn't earn,,,stellar year NY

I attach them to my deer hunting decoys and tie them to fishing line ...ice fishing pole ...hang over a limb right next to tree and bounce them for yote lure....no yotes ..but fox....one pine marten and had a hawk swoop in over the years....lol

there's always someone in the family that can....our two male shepherds...I call them the boys...live in a 8x12 "dog house" and they have a 25x20 dog kennel to run in when I'm not out with them....I'm not hunting due to pea soup fog and ice coated stands...I here them break out into a brawl and yell ...well that didn't work and the growling was pretty bad...I run out and one comes to the gate but every time the other tries to come out...the low menacing growls begin...so I go in the house and check the other ...he comes to his door with a very lrg very dead bushy tail being proudly displayed in his mouth...so with our three shepherds we've gotten two squirrel dogs and their moms a pointer.....lol

I'm glad you posted this for the Mossberg 20ga with Nitro's is all I've ever used and it's a turkey killer and they don't need to be up close to go down....gun to ammo and know your abilities

We have a woman on the next road over that feeds the deer with big bags of carrots and apples from Sams...I went to their place to take pics of bear prints on their chicken coop windows Oh gee big surprise...While talking to the guy a small herd of doe and a 6pt buck just walked in out of the woods...... 15yrds away and they milled around as we talked....they had absolutely no fear of us...he claims she know longer does this because the guys on either side were picking them off during bow season...one more reason not to feed the deer

The Ithaca buck I believe.....which I thought went south fast...but he kinda tripped over the edge over it....there's been at least one other ...lots of congrats then it only took one negative and the post went south....feeding frenzies I call them..or the coop mentality...all's fine in the chicken coop until one hen draws blood....then it's a free for all .....human/animal nature
