I've visited gut piles a day after killing a deer and (with snow on the ground) seen where other deer had pawed through the remains. I can't know for sure that they did some snacking but I wouldn't bet against it.

I'll add that one of the best parts is just being in THEIR element and enjoying all the sights and sounds of nature. Maybe it's the ocasional black squirrel, the red tail hawk swooping through the trees, the red squirrel chasing the gray squirrel, the crazy rutting activity, getting to see your first (happened to me this past fall) black bear from the tree stand or even just enjoying the heck out of watching the black capped chickadee dancing from branch to branch. Those are the things at the top of my list...........

How about WORST Christmas songs?? "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" has to be the front runner??

I'm not sure exactly what your deer had but I assure you mine wasn't a normal condition. Besides what I've killed; hundreds of other dead deer have passed before my eyes and It's a first for me.

Last week I was with my boss at the NYBP on Transit. Had a couple of these and liked them. Bought a 6 pack today......

My wife laughed soooo hard when I read it to her this morning I thought she was going to spray coffee.......

I cry when I hear Silent Night; reminds me so much of being in church, snuggled up with my grandmother during the candlelight portion of the service..........miss her greatly. My favorite song........Snoopy & The Red Baron. I even had the album as a kid......

I looked high & low for one of those locally but got no love...........I see some places have them on the web but I ended up using a Best Buy gift card and getting another Tech21, their Evo Tactical version looked like it would be good. No screen protector yet though; I just had to get the flock 'outa there (movie reference, remember it?) last night as the chaos level was mighty high. Thanks all for the input.

And here is my other sneaky method. When I don't have the digital camera and/or tripod handy I'll use my Iphone (yes, it has a timer) and my always handy binoculars. Here is a pair of Bushnell binos as an example........ This method can be a little tricky but where there's a will, there's a way.

Phade started a thread earlier today on group hunting pictures and then posted some great examples from this season. I mentioned that most of my hero shots are taken while alone. The reason for that is that I like (insist on) photos of ungutted animals, posed in the field whenever possible. For many years I've used a little tripod called the Ultrapod. It screws to the bottom of any digital or (remember these?) 35mm camera. It is a tiny little thing that weighs nothing and has the ability to even be strapped to a solid object maybe 2" in diameter in case you don't have a solid surface to set the three legs on. I've strapped it to saplings and branches many times. As in both examples here, the self timer button is the function of choice. Here's the Ultrapod with a digital camera....

I seem to hunt alone for the most part and that doesn't bother me. As such, my pictures are solo via the tripod or another method. I'll post that "other" method shortly. Nice shots phade! (just make damn sure you print them!!)

Thanks moog, I'll hunt one down next week. The case caper still isn't solved. I spent some time in Best Buy today after hooking up with a "home brewer" from this site for some taste testing (it passed with FLYING colors too) of his Holiday Cheer. The case I got I thought was similar to the other I had but after getting it out the damn door and down Transit Rd I found it isn't exactly what I'm going to like. You win some you loose some............the hunt continues.
