  1. One more thing..........Doc mentioned "300FPS" in his example. I'd REALLY like to know how many guys on HERE have run their current setup through the chronograph and are getting 300FPS. I'd say very few, but that is just a WAG. I don't want to hear what you THINK it is running because of the slick magazine ads or other BS. What is your bow doing? I've seen more than a few disappointed guys walk away shaking their head after a chrono shoot with their hotshot new bow.
  2. 75-100 is what they recommend? No way.................... Next try? I should edit this..................I know they aren't recommending 75-100 yards, they just want a prospective bow hunter to be able to shoot 50+ but NO WAY are they encouraging guys to shoot at 75-100. Ain't happening.
  3. Your so full of crap it isn't even funny. How many deer have you killed with a bow and how long have you.................ahhhh, oh darn, I see. Never mind.. You haven't killed a single animal with a bow, have you? You're only going by what you read on the web, right? One more thing, Biz. How much shooting have you done between 300-500 yards with your Weatherby or any rifle? 400-500 is a good poke............. What bullet are you using and what grain weight? How many FPS is it chugging along at? Scope? Wind drift at 500 yards? Bi-pod, shooting sticks or the hood of the truck? What's your dope from 300-500 yards? You've done all this, right?
  4. Who is talking about SAFETY? Don't confuse the GD issue. You've bow hunted one year and killed how many with the bow? (NOT gun or cross bow) 45 or so with a gun?
  5. Now your down to 50-60 yards..................................FAR from 100 yards.
  6. I'd get on a wheeler and cruise the edges, if possible. If not an option, walk the edges and trails first. Maybe they bumped them off on the way to the field? Glassing the field could be a decent way to approach the big expanse. Luck......................................
  7. He Biz, shawn or anyone else giving these 75-100 yard shots the green light: How many years have you guys been bow hunting? How many kills do you have under your belt? I don't know about Doc but I haven't missed a season since 1976. 37 seasons........only about 35 killed deer here in NYS. A couple in PA but who's counting? How about you Doc, how many years?? I'm guessing 45 years or so.................................. Just curious on the young guys experience with this.
  8. Very eloquently put doc. One thing though, you say "gut shot or worse". What could be worse? Not much worse than that in my book!
  9. BS statement. Can you be a little more vague? Who is shooting deer and elk at 100yds? One or two yahoo's that are under pressure from a TV producer? That is so damned irresponsible to post it isn't even funny.
  10. I didn't say average EITHER. WTF...............when you're messing with a live animal that can turn around twice before the damned arrow gets there why the **** would you do that?
  11. Biz; you have no clue in this at all. Quit while you can..................... It is absolutely not a common shot anywhere.
  12. Pecking gravel to help digest food. Where in Niagara County, near 104 and 78 (roughly)? There is a preserve there and I think at least on other on a north/south rd, I forget the name of the road but it is in eastern NC. Or I know Tonawanda Sportsmans Club has birds also.
  13. Stealthy............................................................ Shoot 'er will ya??
  14. I'll be dipped. I go past there rather often and never saw them. I'll keep my eyes propped open....................
  15. A couple perch in there also.................the shiner is going to be coon bait!
  16. A nice selection of magazines are in another corner. In late summer a bottle of brandy shows up and stays until the last night of ML season. Usually it leaves with the same amount it arrived with, usually.
  17. Never heard of them. Where are the and who is the owner?
  18. I spent some time down in Canadice last weekend, visiting friends and snapping pics along the way (as seen in some other recent posts) of some things I found interesting. I took a walk Sunday morning. The snow was just deep enough to leave me wanting my snowshoes that were back home! A couple different "tree stands" are seen. One basic, one deluxe.
  19. I was only taking pics but thought some might enjoy these. All but the last picture are from Canadice Lake................................................ From the boat launch looking south....................... The players............................. A friend caught these at Honeoye on Saturday......................
  20. A couple cool little visitors to the feeder last weekend at my friends........................................
  21. I was wondering if King Andy has mentioned about a bounty on these Bad Azz Birds? I've seen them in action, the one old male gave quite a display last fall. He had his mating schedule all messed up and thought HE was "up to bat". He stood guard over his female (might even be his mother for all I know) for three days and wouldn't let the other three younger birds near him or his lady friend. It was down right nasty. One other bird was killed by a coyote during the night because they were kept off the water and had to stay in the grass or fields surrounding the ponds. You could really see the fear in their eyes. These 5 birds are kept in the barn once the ice forms on the ponds. Two stalls hold them. The old female and her suitor in one and the other three in another. Lord do I despise them...........but my friend enjoys having them and he pays the bills on the farm! Let me know if they post a sizable bounty, I'll split it with you.
  22. I think the OP is hanging this in reference to some questions last night....... http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/21601-most-versatile-caliber-for-ny-hunting/page-6
  23. more......... http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/second-amendment-gun-legislation-discussion/89440-ny-state-firearm-limit-need-clarification.html Somebody digest this crapola and report back in terms "I" can understand.......
