  1. I'll add that follow through is one of the most important things IMO and experience. Tradition archery equipment shot instinctive is a TOTAL mind game. If you aren't concentrating all the time on your release, follow through and focusing on that TINY little spot, you'll be SOL. I had a second stint at traditional archery from 1987 to 1999 before I also went back to a compound for good. (grin) I just didn't have the time to practice year round, religiously. You owe it to the game your hunting to make the complete commitment to instinctive shooting to become the best shot in the woods and the only way to do this is to perfect all aspects and keep your head focused. Amen.................................!!
  2. It ain't the arrow, it's the archer. (summed up your wording!!)
  3. That is a dandy buck. I enlarged it on my iPhone and its a beauty!!
  4. Good luck tomorrow. Do you guys hit it real early? My buddy told me his buddy who is hammering them is on the water by 5:30AM and done with their limit by 7:30 or so!! I'd be curious to hear what your gear was. The rods you were long lining with, was that a lead core line?
  5. Bummer on that! This is the time to get these series of blunders out of the way. It's also kind of how I look at the first weekend of archery season, one cluster after another!!
  6. Well done!! I'm going to need some tips on how/what you used. What rods?? I'll probably start to accumulate the goods this winter in preparation for next years bounty. Thanks.....................
  7. Soft shell crabs worked for me last Sunday on the upper Niagara River. I had bass chubs but the crabs were #1. The water there is moving a bit also............................<grin>
  8. Good read but I'm sure as you are it will fall on deaf ears(eyes). Sharpton is the biggest POS going. (Period)
  9. Where? It sure looked like most everybody was going to get blasted?? Maybe the are dissipating before they get to you.....??
  10. That was quite a storm last night! The lightning show was amazing and the rain came down in torrents. I think they said Lockport got 4-5" AGAIN. Another rainy Friday........................... Those poor folks up there have nothing left in their basements to get ruined after the storm a month ago. We got between 1-2" around my place. I took 20 gallons of water off my boat cover. Siphoned the water into 5gal buckets just out of curiosity!! This has been a crazy summer, SO FAR...............
  11. Sounds like a nice morning for you and the wife, Doc. Can't wait to see the pics!
  12. Go with any decent camo but cover your hands AND face (especially) and you'll be perfect. Practice shooting with the face camo-ed up as it could be a big change for you.
  13. I think I'm confused.............. I assumed the OP just bought his Lifetime License. Actually I think what he ment is that he has had it and this years license just came in the mail? Doesn't matter, it's all good whatever it is!
  14. CONGRATS!! I got mine in Sept 2002 so this will be my 12 year. I got the ML & archery at the same time for $125 each. $500 for the Sportsmans license. $750 out the door.
  15. Yea, I've also dropped the ball on the same issue. I really need to get out and shoot a pile of arrows because I had a new string/cables put on back in January. If you don't recall, I'll refresh your memory. I dropped the bow and loaded quiver out of the stand on the last day of the regular archery season..........she bounced up about 3' before she landed in a heap. I figured a new set of strings/cables was due anyways..........grin
  16. Well, you got plenty of good advice! Did you put it to good use??
  17. I wouldn't think the state would let people "guide" on the state land? Since it's state land, what do you need them for? How was your hunt in 2011? I see your a reference, cool.
  18. I saw it. Tacky, desperate move to sell print, IMO.
  19. I'm thinking about jumping back into this one................. Belo, you wanna tag out for a bit and take a breather?
  20. We've been watching this closely here. Here is three pages of gack regarding it. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/15859-here-comes-ontario-county-again/ What gun are you going to use??
  21. Funny thing is, the OP hasn't said a word since he started this!! Some people just have tooooo much time on their hands.....................<grin>
  22. ALL THE MORE REASON NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT TO BUY A MAGNUM. A 30-06 is PLENTY of gun (or a 243, 260, 270, 7mm-08, 280) for ANYTHING in NYS. Having somebody else shoot your gun in is no way to learn it. Dude, you went from a 7mm Mag that you didn't like to a 300WSM, how come??
  23. That certainly is a different way to look at recoil...........<grin>
  24. Skinny guys don't feel the recoil effects like fuller figured guys do. Ever see a bowl of Jello shake? UB earth quake center has called me in the past.....................................<grin>
