  1. The OP has left the building.......................
  2. Sounds like a great project. Good luck!
  3. Good deal! If Tim bought it, your welcome! <grin>
  4. "Mature" is that kind of like "aging"? Either one could "mature" in my shed for 7-10 days after dressing, depending on temps. <grin>
  5. AND.................................the 308win. is a wonderful but somewhat boring cartridge!! Nobody that knows guns, calibers and chamberings could have a single BAD word to say about the 308win.
  6. I'm also a big fan of the Tikka. Although I can't really warm up to the detachable magazine, the rest of the gun is terrific. Accurate? wow. Nice, smooth action? wow. Incredible trigger? wow. Nice enough stock? wow. GREAT barrel? wow. Hell-of-a value. I can dig the Tikka.
  7. I have a father in law that would make your plight look rosey. At least you could feed the cats to your dogs in a pinch............................................. We hand another FIL induced "weekend from hell". Long personal story that you wouldn't believe anyway! My wife and I spent about 8 hours in ECMC hospital over the weekend. Long story but we were on the right side of the bed, this time. Top that..........<grin>
  8. An hour ride to the hunting area kind of curbs the action for me. I'm happy I made it down three times this summer, so far. If I got three MORE woodchuck hunts in I'd be tickled. The beauty of the Wyoming County countryside makes even a woodchuck less night just as rewarding.
  9. I was certainly not "laughing" at the Suilleabhain comment. Just funny that he mentioned them. Darn good sport!! I have no problem with a miss. WAY, WAY better than a non fatal hit.
  10. Funny, the missed shots and the bow deer!!
  11. I'm trying to sell this Merkel for a friend, 470 Nitro Express. Unfired other than regulating, never even outside until I took these pics! 10,500 takes it. I'd be happy to bring it down to you if you have an itch to scratch.......<grin>
  12. Quote....... I need a new scarf for winter.....start now maybe? Colors? (even though I KNOW you don't get the weather downstate that we do here in Snow Belt!) 458Lott? Tell my more................ Love this thread!
  13. I was just going by the OP statement about the approx. ages of each gun. It is possible that ages of production and purchase dates (new/old stock) could certainly swap up the possible solutions. Regardless, I'd still like that screwed up LH '06 <grin> although it has no issues.
  14. Directed at me? Like Pygmy said, some of the calibers listed accounted for only one deer, ie: 375H&H, 243Win (one during the season in PA last year and one on a nusiance permit) 300WSM and 260Rem. Also, I only killed one with the longbow. I don't play the ponies, play cards, go out drinking, own a race car, race motorcycle, race boat, race snowmobile, golf, play softball, basketball, horseshoes, cheat on my wife or beat either my kids or my dog. I hunt when it is hunting season. I Love to eat venison, hang some horns in the garage and once in a great while hang one in the family room. Killing doe doesn't bother me. Killing spike bucks and 4pts don't bother me. Also, I really like guns, reloading, bows and fletching my own arrows. I haven't killed a deer with factory loaded centerfire ammo in 24+ years and hope like hell I never do again. Loaded another 50 rounds today for the 22-250. Did I tell you I hate slug guns? Some guys really take this stuff serious and are fortunate to have great places to hunt. Maybe I should take up knitting?
  15. I can only say that either your friends has had some modifications or it is older than you think. You ever want to part with that LH 30-06, keep me in mind!
  16. I'll bet you guys musta FRIED in that sun and calm water? Nice haul on those fish!!
  17. Deer in NY, PA & WY with the following....... 12ga. 50 cal, flintlock roundball 50 cal inline 50 cal smokeless 243 win 260rem 270 win 280 rem 7mm-08 308 win 300wsm 375h&h I think that is all of them. How about this little tid bit.......I've killed deer with the following weapons: Longbow Recurve Compound Shotgun Rifle (centerfire) Pistol Flintlock ML Inline BP ML Smokeless ML I enjoyed all of them at one point or another. Only thing missing (I think) is the crossbow and I have no desire to use one.
  18. Had another roundup this week. 14 so far for the season out of two adjacent fields. My buddy and I each shot 3, 6 shots and 6 chucks. Used two of my guns, the Sako 22-250 and my 223AI. Furthest shot was one my bud cracked at 342yds. My longest was right at 300. Had a blown primer in the 223AI. A hot load, in a hot gun, sitting in the hot sun will do that! (first and HOPFULLY last time that happens) That put that gun out of service so it only accounted for two 'chucks. The Sako had to pick up the slack. The grass is growning so slow that I may be able to make it out again and still see the remaining beasts. I could only get 4 in the picture, one of the other two was not fit for photography and the other had slid back into his hole withe the top of his melon very mushed. I didn't want to stuff my hand into the carnage to recover him. (wussy I know!!)
  19. e, that's one of the biggest decisions I face each year. Sometimes I lay awake at night pondering that exact same question. <<GRIN>> Are you kidding, do what ever floats your boat. How far are you from the hanging site? If your pretty close, pull the cards once a week. You won't bother the deer. If it is a long haul, let them soak for the month. I don't know what camera your using that can suck the juice out of a set of batts in a month but most of the newer and still fairly inexpensive cameras have wonderful battery life. My two (Scoutguard & Bushnell) can go for 9-12 months! Once you find a great location, you can leave that camera there for the long haul to get the real scope of the area.
  20. To the AR guys: What will you do with all those big bucks? Get them all mounted or will they just get hung in the garage or shed? How many can you really stuff? Plenty of low income & unemployed folks can't afford the taxidermy fee. If you ARE just cutting the skull plate off and NOT mounting a big buck, who cares if it is a 4pt, 6pt or 10pt? Think about it, if the rack is more important than the meat and the experience when you hit the woods than I think your going about this for the wrong reasons. I enjoy the hunt, the meat and the occasional wall hanger.
  21. Please don't tell me what size deer I can shoot. Let me make that choice.
  22. So the Youth Waterfowl hunts and Youth Turkey hunts are a bad idea or just Youth Deer hunts?
  23. How many children do you have and how old are they?
  24. THAT ALSO INCLUDES PYGMY! About time he figured it out also..........<grin>
