Damn.......That is really something. You gettin' your loot? <grin>

Might be time to read some good books on the subject. Spring turkey hunting is about calling to a gobbling bird, not waiting to ambush one coming down from the roost or heading for breakfast. Do you use a call? Ever heard a turkey gobble?
-
I've shot two banded ducks, one goose and one pheasant. I don't recall what the deal was on the pheasant but still have the information regarding the ducks & goose. Pretty cool when you shoot a banded bird. It'd be cool to shoot a deer with a radio collar. <grin>

Ahhhhh, a CO. THAT is all I need to know. NO THANKS! Just kidding.....Good luck with the sale. Those older ones are sweet.

Awesome. Did they tell you the approx. age of the birds when banded? If they were been banded in Jan, Feb, or March of 07 as jakes, the one you killed this year would be 6 years old? Damn....... Keep us posted.

Holy Cow! TMI.................................<grin>

I know of a couple killed this weekend in addition to these here. Well done WNYBH. Will the DEC give you any kind of information on that tag?

If I don't have a gobble right off the bat, I'll start walking. It may be a huge circle or a back and forth straight line in a big block of woods. Both early in the morning and late morning my favorite call is my Faulks Crow call. I like to be the first crow on the block to call. Granted I always start with my owl hooter but then spend plenty of time on the crow call AFTER it's barely light enough for a crow to fly! If I get no response with the CC, then I'll start off with a light diaphragm call then a box, a bit louder. Still nothing? Start walking and calling. Make a light hen yelp every 100-150 yards, roughly. You change things up when terrain dictates. Come to a big bowl or basin? You might want to pull your foam pad out and take a seat for a bit. When your at a spot where you call will really carry like the bowl/basin, start with the crow call and try and shock them. I don't worry too much about bumping into a silent gobbler that might be coming in, they aren't what I'm looking for. When backtracking, call the same way. Many times birds are interested and coming from a long distance and following you. Lots of ways to skin the cat, so YMMV.

Maybe you could post up a price for us and maybe generate some interest for your brother? Or is it sold? Ain't like your selling a cabin or land in the southerntier...........<grin>

And a pile of those CRAZY western hunters will use 223 for DEER!! Can you believe that? The 243 is a cannon.............................................<grin>

Can't say for sure about unclenicky but most folks these days wear a vest that has carrying capabilities onboard and pictures like his are just for tradition, ie: hero shots. But, I do agree that it wouldn't be the safest way to do it. Most people that have carried a turkey any distance like that only do it once because it is very uncomfortable also! The turkey hunters vest was a great idea many years ago. Mine is almost 30 years old, retro camo....................... http://i131.photobuc...06/Turk11-1.jpg http://i131.photobuc...06/IMG_0888.jpg

A friend of a friend killed a bird yesterday in northern Erie County. He sat in a blind for 3 hours and never heard a single gobble. 8:15am he's getting ready to wrap things up, looks out the windows one more time and here he comes. 15 yards and he's in a heap. Not a single gobble but he has a dead bird. Not my style, but its a punched tag.

Forum and Site was upgraded last night - Any problems?

Like baseball? 3 strikes and................................ -
"When I'm sleeping its easy" LOL!! Reward yourself with a new gun on Monday for keeping your mouth shut! That 'll work!
-
Can you describe these "birds"? Have you contacted the authorities?
-
That gun should be twisted fine to shoot anything between 150-180 no problem. Plenty of other variables to the equation. How is the barrel & action fixed? Mounting of the glass? Glass? Bench? Rest, front & rear? Quality of fodder?

Looking good guys! Any gals have success yet?
-
I'd say if it is that dark, they should be off the ground. Sometimes they are up pretty early. All depends if they had a long day chasing some trim, if you know what I mean......<grin> The big question is, when are they coming down?? Lord only knows!

I'm all ways looking for an excuse to post photos.............<grin> Some would consider this cheating, compared to the way the original owner used it.............................(Thanks Dan!)
