One afternoon my buddy shot a nice buck with the bow and we never found it till and hour or so after dark. He decided he'd gut in it the barn over a plastic garbage can. WTF was he thinking!!!! Oh my what a mess he made.............lol Regardless it's a good memory and if it works for you John, good deal.

I've been doing my own butchering since about 1985. I had a banner season in 1984 and paid a small fortune to a butcher shop in Clarence Center (Hobart's?) to process them. I was just a young guy that spent most of his money on girls and beer so figured I'd have to learn the trade at some point. The following September I went out west with 6 other guys and ended up (between us) killing 6 antelope and 6 mule deer and those guys wouldn't dare take an animal to a processor. Since I was one of the first to score the opening evening of antelope season (on a dink buck) I was going to be butchering some animals! My buddy Albert showed me the ropes and to say I'm grateful would be an understatement. With some help from another guy from the group we butchered, wrapped and got all the animals ready for the long ride back. Dry ice procured locally made for easily transporting back the meat. I should have mentioned; we drove out in a pick up truck and a huge motor home so getting the goods back was a piece of cake...... So since then I'm sure I've cut up well over 150 deer and a handful of antelope. Worked some elk and caribou too. Over the years I've shown a few friends how I do it (right or wrong, you really can't bung it up too bad) and that makes me happy. What prompted this thread was a Meat Eater episode I just caught the end of. Steve Rinella was doing a show on butchering deer and goes further into depth than I do but, like I said, you'd be hard pressed to mess up the deal. At the end he said how he prefers to use plastic wrap and butcher paper over a vacuum sealer for red meat. I called my wife out and she watched the end of it with him wrapping the meat up and she said, "huh, just like how we do it". So.....how did you learn, trial and error or were you fortunate to have a mentor like I did?

For the life of me I can NOT understand how any bow hunter in NYS can hold onto their implement the entire time they're in a stand. Beside the shear boredom of holding the darn thing what the heck do you do when temps get below freezing or even in the teens? God forbid it rains or snows........what do you do if you need to text a story to your wife or buddy? Take a wiz? It sure doesn't make it easy to use binoculars! I look forward to your replies.

Not for nothing but, the best bowhunter I know hunts from a climber exclusively.

Don’t forget fuel and line for the machine.

Me hang on stands lifelines are tied to the tree at chest/waist height. Ladder stand (I only have two) are tied to the right side of the ladder, also chest/waist high.
-
I don’t know, my prusik hitches are kind of tight around the lifeline and I use my right hand to slide it up as I climb, I would want more tension on the line than my bow to help it slide up. Good if it works for you…..

I bought a EB3000c 20 years ago (I think?) for home use, camping and in my business. It paid for itself numerous times over the years but was kind of loud and heavy for camping at 70lbs so ended up adding a EU2200i off Craigslist a number of years ago. Neither takes up much space and are good peace of mind.
-
So your bow straight down parallel with the tree and your climbing a ladder at a 75 degree angle all while sliding the prusik hitch up the rope........isn't your bow banging all around? Haul ropes are pretty simple to use and darn near fool proof........and safe.

And you're a 2% er I thought?

$2000 on a portable Honda can make life much better in a bad situation. YMMV

My buddies SIL was in the area and wanted to set the stand today, yea....warm, humid and rain. I hate being in the woods in the summer......... I didn't snap any pictures because everything was dripping wet, including my pants and phone. I had my chainsaw along to cut a bunch of dead stuff in close proximity to the stand but like a good boy, ran the saw dry after the last use then proceeded to forget my fuel can. Damn it all anyways.......no problem there's still plenty of time to do it. The stand went up really easy with the two of us and seems very secure. Next time I go I'll spend more time checking out shooting lanes and getting set for the season. I DID get the lifeline installed and tied off to the ladder down below......I mean, who doesn't use a lifeline with a ladder stand??

I just came west on the Thruway from Batavia and saw a ton of utility trucks, tree service trucks and HEAVY equipment loaded on trailers, all heading east. The powers that “be” are awfully concerned with this storm, no doubt. Batten down the hatches guys………

As seen on the Sunday morning Harold Innsley show back in ‘77

What’s your preferred method for carrying a chainsaw on your four wheeler? I have always just used buggies but that isn’t always possible with other stuff strapped on the back. I have a front bag that I don’t feel like crushing just yet……

We’re in a world of hurt on plenty of different levels.

Memories far out value many things in life but when it’s a gun, it’s even better! RIP Pops….. -
I think we should change the name of this thread to “Vacation”. Maybe it’ll go away then…..
