  1. The first thing I do is the a-hole. After that is completely free, I wipe off the knife blade in snow, water or just a dry paper towel if I can. Then I'll start with the hide, up to the base of the rib cage then down to the plumbing system. I just wouldn't want to leave any part of the chute in place if I didn't have to.
  2. I guarantee the first red meat to hit the chompers of my kids was venison. A 13 and 19 year old that eat it 4 out of 7 days a week since they were old enough. I mark each package of meat in secret code with the weapon, date and sex. Should I ever have a problem, it would be easy to pull it from the ice box and give it to the homeless shelter. (grin)
  3. How do you ever hope to build up your immune system? Blood, guts, leaves AND sardines! You'll never get sick................................
  4. Bleach? That sounds like an ancient Chinese secret. I'm sure it'll work good for you Pat but I'm going to pass on that one. I guess I've processed well over 125 deer in 25 year, for mine and my families consumption and we've all survived it with out any sickness or illness. I guess we are just lucky? Your other tips are sound.
  5. An internet hoax deer? Say it ain't so...................................... ;D
  6. The reason I shoot a mod. choke is because of the real close shots. About 5 years ago I almost blew a couple birds due to 15-20 yard shots. Seems like they were coming in quick and fast for a week or so and when they are bobbing and weaving, running in I have a tendency to MISS! Fortunately I still load the magazine with a couple extra roman candles. ;D A second shot cleaned up both situations that year. I don't get too many birds hanging up at extended ranges. Either they're coming right in or I don't even see them, hung up at 100 yards or so. Right bird, right day = heavy game bag.
  7. Here is one from Arcade. Cedar tree and a CZ 452 for scale.................................. Heck of a nice buck you got FSW!
  8. 12 gauge Benelli SBE, 3.5" Federal HW #5 modified choke. 40 yards, no problem.
  9. How many lives have been lost because of this problem?Dave Here is a cut/paste from State Farm.................. Best Automobile Insurance Save on Car Insurance with Your Choice Auto Insurance Home Contact Us Site Map Deer Effect State Farm Car Insurance November 8th, 2010 | by Nathan Phillips | The cost of those seemingly cute, cuddly deer out in the streets is actually more than you might imagine. Not only do they eat plants and crops, they can carry lyme disease and wreak havoc on your car insurance. Allan Sloan’s Fortune article on CNN Money discusses the financial impact of what he calls “rats with hooves.” That may be a bit harsh, but “The case against Bambi” has valid financial points. State Farm car insurance says that 1.14 million accidents between deer and cars occurred in a one year time frame ending this June. That cost drivers and insurance companies close to $4 billion in damages. And if you include the accidents where drivers didn’t have any car insurance or comprehensive coverage, the cost of damages is even higher. In the past five years the number of deer related crashes has increased by 21%, while the number of miles people are driving only went up by 2%. The likely cause of that statistic is that there are a lot more deer out on the roads than there were five years ago. The worst part is that deer are causing human fatalities in car crashes. It is estimated that 140 people were killed just last year because of deer-vehicle accidents. The top five states where accidents occurred were Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Virginia. The fewest accidents were in Rhode Island, Alaska, Nevada, the District of Columbia, and Hawaii. With fatalities and skyrocketing costs associated with deer-vehicle collisions, the author ponders whether eliminating some deer for the greater good of humans is the next step.
  10. Bow & arrow is just not effective enough to get the numbers down fast. They will need to get a bait and shoot going, then maybe they could work in a bow hunt to help maintain the population. I can't see the logic of a few guys running around with handguns whacking deer in the head, caught in a net? Holy cow that sounds like a rodeo with guns! What is a "bolt to the head" anyway? That's a bit disturbing. Around WNY, the police have done a terrific job at keeping the numbers down. Bait, silencers, the cover of darkness and a snowy ground make things go real well. Expensive? You better believe it. What's a loved ones life worth?
  11. I always wondered if the American Indian gave a hoot about shooting a big buck or a long beard gobbler? Seems like a P&Y buck behind every tree back then! He reminds me of Terry Redlin. (SP?)
  12. I've seen his work at NWTF banquets for years. Not really my style but YMMV Here is my favorite and a close friend, Thomas Aquinas Daly. He has done plenty of donating to NWTF, NYB, SCI etc. I have a few of Tom's paintings and a pile of his etchings. He has graced the cover of Sporting Classics, Traditional Bowhunter and a bunch of others. In the late 80's he was honored to be one of the top sporting artists of the century by Sports Afield. http://www.thomasaquinasdaly.com/
  13. Did a bit of bench work yesterday. I shot my 243 and 7-08. Hung some steel at 253 yards (all the spot would allow) and had some fun. My buddy brought his 25-06, 260 and 257 WBY Mag. In between snow squalls we had a great time. I do enjoy shooting the rifles............
  14. Good info. It would be great if we could hunt them here. Thanks for posting.
  15. If somebody else is buying, I'll smoke just about ANYTHING! (except cigarettes) If I'm buying for and EDC, it's probably will be a Garcia Vega Crystal. I'm sure they aren't good enough for most aficionados but for me they work out fine.
  16. Makes sense. Too bad it's not from around here. Anybody can kill 'em out west, probably shot via a chopper or fixed wing?
  17. Must have quite a pack of hounds.
  18. I never saw a Blaser OR Jarret in the entire place. Hard to fathom............... ;D
  19. And what about those Elmira Gun offerings, WOW!
  20. LOL, I saw those cookies and almost reached for my wallet!
  21. Anybody that doesn't have a physical address or location on the "contact us" portion of a web site can pound salt.
  22. Anybody go to the show in Rochester this weekend? I went this morning. Saw some interesting higher end stuff, drillings & sxs shotguns. Lots of junk as usual. You can keep all the military stuff, $5 knives, beef jerky etc. ??? I know, variety is the spice of life. Never handled a Kimber Montana before. I've heard plenty about them but never fondled one until today. It was a 300WSM @ $950 IIRC. Good thing they don't make them LH. ;D
