All this rain and cold temps aren't helping the restocking future of the Wild Turkey. Will this cause an upswing in breeding activity if/when the hens loose current nests??

Any action this morning? Raining pretty good here in WNY. Only action on my end is a one winged robin my Lab let live around 6am on a pizz break.

Anymore action on this? I need to start clearing shooting lanes.............

Sounds like a fun morning! Are you sure that was a jake? I've never looked for spurs, maybe I should let them get closer? Could you see 5-6" of beard sticking out? If so that could have been an adult, maybe a inch or two not showing in the chest under the feathers?? That certainly could have been a two year old bird?? Did you get a glimpse of his tail, fanned out?

It would sure be nice to get some of the P-R money and have a place for guys to shoot that aren't in a club, kind of like a PUBLIC range. All that money spent buy "shooters" on guns and ammo with a 11% tax for what?? 70 MILLION for more land in the Adirondacks?

With the shells made today (Heavyshot and much improved wads) the modified choke is my friend.

Things started out not so good but ended up well! Right off the bat I have two gobblers respond, only problem was they were on the wrong side of the road! Hunted MY side until about 6:00 am when I decided nothing was gobbling on the 400+ acres I had access to then figured I'd try and pull these birds across the hard top road to my side if possible. Well, it worked out as I hoped and he got a free ride in the Silverado. 28 yard shot, 12 Benelli SBE 3.5" Federal #6. 21 lbs. 9" beard and 7/8" spurs. Breakfast........$7.50

Oak- Nice article. Now, what are we going to do about PA????? Do you think it will ever change? I'm sure you and many others have hunted PA a lot longer than me but I've given them lots of scratch over the last 28 straight years. I want to see deer and shoot spikers! I liked the old days! I'd like to hear what others have to say.

It sure seems like it would take a while to get used to the reverse action of the pump shotguns/rifles that I'm familiar with. I got time though................... ;D

The legal hunting hours here in NYS make a 50mm scope a moot point, IMHO.

What can't you do with a 2x7 Leupold?

Remove the iron sights, buy a Leupold VX 2 2x7 scope and decent mounts. Call me in 40 years and thank me. If the price of a new scope is too much, find a used one. Pretty easy to find, if you need help locating one, let me know and I'll keep my eyes peeled.

The reason you see that action is because turkey are having sex. That is so they can reproduce. Hopefully most of the breeding is done when the season starts so we can kill all the male birds and have females left to hatch more butterballs. When does the season open?
