Help! Explorer keeps crashing on me! (Not internet explorer)
Gthphtm replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Heard there is a virus going around, once it gets in they ask you to pay to get rid of it.Either way take it to someone that knows how to save the info you want and let them wipe the hard drive clean and re install every thing. -
Go to a feed and grain store, might cost a little more but you will get just seed not seed and fillers.
-
If you have ever been bitten by a stray or somebody's pet and had to go threw the rabies tests I do not think you would want an animal running or charging you after that. Doc, I think this subject is getting out of hand and should be pulled, No reason to be arguing with one another.

Food plot ideas...need some advice
Gthphtm replied to blackradio's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Do yourself a favor and go to a real feed and grain supply store in that area, not a big chain store and ask what grows in the area you want to plant. Not everything grows well in every part of the state. And first have the soil tested.I would love to plant winter wheat and winter oats on my land but it just won't make it.The soil and weather conditions vary in each part of NY. -
Grow. I do not know about your tractor but my JD with the 3 point hitch does not have any Downward pressure it is only Upward pressure and I have found by adding weight to the York rake made it work better then without weight on it.

It is unfortunate but where I now live most of the people walk there dogs un leashed and let them run into the woods when they see an animal and make no attempt to call it back, but yet some of them put feed out every day for the deer and turkeys to come and eat at there houses. If you complain to them the tell you to mind your own business.

This happened about 3 years ago.Opening day of rifle season, eating breakfast and a UTV goes up the road, Fellow driving it in full camo., in the back were 2 dogs.About an hour and a half I am sitting on my property in my homemade blind and the 3 pieces of property before that are posted.A 4 pointer goes running right in front of me being chased by the 2 dogs that were in the back of the UTV.( good thing they had red halters on) about a 1/2 an hour later they came back tracking to were they came from.

Also be careful backing up with it down around tree stumps and good size rocks,at $12.00 to $15.00 a piece those tines break off easy.
-
Grow. add some weight to the top of it as cement blocks, pieces of railroad track or I beams and you will really be moving some rocks.
-
Invest in one of the 10' x 10' chain link enclosures for dogs and put the hives inside of that and about 3' to 4' outside of that put an electric fence. Some one I know had a new elec. fence device meant for cows and a 400 -500 lb. bear charged right threw it. and had a feast.

Years ago where we hunted I watched the same thing 2 black Lab. mixed. chasing deer they just keep chasing them till the deer run out of breath and then start to kill them.Where I lived when I was growing up there were packs of wild dogs ( dropped off in the woods when they were puppies after they did damage to there masters houses ) that would kill just about anything to stay alive. Back then the DEC would let you shoot them.

Planted a lot of there seed, every thing came up and the deer were hitting it as soon as the snow melted just about every morning and night. Like everything else ground prep is what counts.

maple syrup equipment
Gthphtm replied to IDRBS's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
If you Google Maple Syrup supplies there are many companies selling supplies as Leader Ect.Yep it will be winding down soon.I boiled down my 2 gallons of syrup for this year, ready to pull every thing out wash it and put it away. This was one of the better years the sugar contant was up pretty high. -
Loctite for scope mounts ??
Gthphtm replied to HuntOrBeHunted's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Do not use Red you will have to use heat to get the screws out later if you need to,Use Blue.I use a product called vibra tite. Some people use nail polish. What ever you use clean the screws and threaded holes with 100 % Acetone and not the nail polish remover it has oil in it. -
I have had mine so long I do not remember which brand. But the do work.I have had turkeys,2 Yotes,1 fox and the funnest was I had a young spike buck charge and kick it down with it's hoofs.

That just goes to show you how the ground hog screwed up this year even the skunks are looking to get out of the weather.
-
Apple, They sell bags of all types of wood chips for smoking.
-
Good thing it's near lunch time your making me hungry just reading this.
-
I prune and spray my apple trees near the house every year as I use them for eating and baking, there are others that I just let grow as they wish and prune every 3 -4 years. The deer hit them trees every year for the apples. But by us last year with the early warm spell the trees budded early, then it got cold and we had very few or no apples at all. Also very few wild blackberries.
-
The only time I have seen sighs of them is during rifle season searching for gut piles.Yesterday I took a ride around the property to see if there were any down trees and came across a set of Yote tracks following the deer tracks on my property.Guess we have to set up some traps. The other night I heard my ducks kackling like crazy ( they make good watch dogs),I guess it was near them.

when are you gonna start listening for Gobblers?
Gthphtm replied to sits in trees's topic in Turkey Hunting
They have been gobbeling by me yesterday on and off all day.Went to the PO in the afternoon and there were 5 bearded ones right along side of the road. -
I use nylon coated stainless steel cable with eye's on each end, only for locking. The best ratchet straps I could find to hold my ladder stands to the tree.Keep them loose after using.
-
Well I planed it right for a change, spread 10 lbs. of red clover seed all around the property this afternoon,it snowed around an hour ago and the ground is white.

Google people who engrave firearms, alot will show up and display there work, it will give you some ideas what to have done, unless you never plan on selling it or passing it down I would not have your name or other ID put on it, it will just kill the value of it.
