  1. Remember this is the time to prune the trees if you didn't already.
  2. Yes deer in a swamp,I had one opening day of rifle season many years ago. A 10 pointer, wide rack, tall tines and a big body. Under estimated the distance, thought it was 100 yds., later paced it off more like 200 yds. After the first shot it lied down, looked around and crawled on it's belly out of the swamp, all I could see was his rack going further away to the other end of the swamp, then jump up and run into a bunch of pines at the other end.Thea deer was seen and shot at by 4 other people that we know of that year and the following year and all 4 never even hit him.
  3. Well I finally got to make some and try it for lunch with my ham steak. MMMMM Good. Quart of sap boil down to 1-1/2 cups filtered it and then added 1 cup of wild rice mix.Brought it to a boil and then let it simmer for 45 minutes. Then let cool a little,it had a hint of the maple syrup flavor. I guess the sugar content is up this year.Going to try some sweet sasauge next.
  4. I guess it's time to but the bird feeders away.
  5. By me they hit the bird feeder early in the morning or later in the evening, they know when I let the dogs out to do there thing. If the are out grazing near the house during the day and I let one of the dogs out, they just stand there and look at each other, they must know the dog will not come too close because the dog is on a rope that cannot reach them.
  6. I have one just like that, lasted about 3 years,it is just for light stuff up to 3". A light duty saw it can't compare to my 460 magnum or my 280.When the 280 dies again will be the 3 rd. time. I am going to get one of the 300 series saw.But you have to remember I am cutting and trimming over 10 full cords of wood a year. To the Oil companies.
  7. I taped a few maple trees last week when it was warm and hung some buckets, now the metal spies and the holes are frozen. No sap until it goes up into the 40's I guess.Dying to try Rice boiled in sap,I heard it tastes good.
  8. I can tell you what they call fresh water clams up here look like what the call muscles on and around Long Island, some people ate them, most used them for fish bait.Clams down there are have a rounded or oval shaped shell and are white to tan in color.
  9. I bought a new Glock 8 years ago and it had a fired case in it.
  10. That s***s with all the wood you have according to your posted pictures.Even with the outdoor furnace I have you have to open the door and step back and let the heat and dust clear before loading more wood into it.
  11. That's what I do, the trees I cut down when clearing for food plots I cut up for firewood, which I heat my house with and have a setup on my elec. hot water heater which heats the water. It does not use elec. as long as the wood boiler is going and I have not used any fuel oil for over 5 years. So the cost of the outside wood boiler has been paid for.
  12. My son's pet rabbit died when he was in grade school, he was heart broken for a long time.It was given to him by my uncle.I just do not think it is right.
  13. It's a 44Mag. pistol,look's like a 16" or shorter bbl.Cannot use it in archery only zone or archery season,in NYS..
  14. Well I will tell you I just buried my female beagle yesterday ( 3 - 1/2 hours ) to dig a hole with my JD bucket. She was sick all last week and died Sat.night.She was only 9 years old loved to hunt and the last 3 days she could not even walk.If she were a pet rabbit and you asked that question,I would tell you to get off of my property and never come back.
  15. Is that for hand guns or both hand and long guns?. N.Y. Hand gun owners had picture ID's for as long as I can remember.
  16. Here is a good one,to start with all of my property is posted. This year as I have done in the past I grew a small crop of pumpkins. When they were ready to pick I placed them all around my house,I Had 6 on the edge of a rock garden formation. One day during rifle season this UTV very slowly goes past my house looking right at the pumpkins. One fellow had on a orange coverall suite and the driver in camo. The see me looking out the window and turn around and go back the direction the came from. The next day I go food shopping.Get home and going up my driveway I notice all of the pumpkins in the front of the house were gone.No snow on the ground and no remaining pieces of pumpkins.Talk about having a set of B***s.
  17. Encore/45 L colt + you can use 410 in it .
  18. One hunting club I hunted years ago had a problem with ATV's & Trail bikes. They put up posted signs blocked openings with downed trees and every other legal means to stop them, would have the state police come when they were going on the property, never could stop them, just too much property with dirt or paved roads around it. So how do you stop people walking on to your property. One farm that we hunted down in Sullivan county had a problem also with ATV's that came from a hunting club which had property lower then there property was. They bought a couple thousand feet of elec. fence wire and strung it around the edge of there property along with new posted sines, they had all of the local repair shops save anti freeze bottles for a year and cut 2" wide X 6" long pieces out of them and put them every 6' on the wire.IT Stopped the ATV.s but did Not stop the walkers from coming on the property.
  19. Yep 80 % of the property around me is farm land from back to the 1800's most have barb wire fences old and new and some are at multiple depths,If someone is on that property with out there permission that is a trasspassers they hurt themselves that is there problem not the farmers.
  20. You can put up all the barb wire you want on your property,it just has to be marked at easy access routs.
  21. If it was up to me I would have bear traps all over my property for the same reason,Only thy are illegal and you would have a nice size law suite against you.
  22. The last time they were grazing right behind my house there were 2 out of 8 like that, the other 6 were just too young.
  23. Yep that the arrow I use with my long and recurve bows. With Steelforce blades.I have tryed beeman, easton and some custom,my bows like them the best.
