  1. i saw the original date and thought someone else bumped this. i'm glad to see it was you miz and love the progress pics!
  2. i was so worried about this during the 4 houses and 2 apartments that we've lived in over the last 10 years that my 1 and only mount has always ridden in the front seat with me or i've had the movers crate it (wood). And i let it be very clear to them, to the point where i'm sure i annoyed them and one of the movers even put the crate in the cab that this was not a replaceable item and i'll f'n murder families if it's damaged. lol
  3. great pics. why are these deer not "shootable"?
  4. agree. the week around after halloween has been real good traditionally in 8f and 7j, but for whatever reason I usually end up with a buck around this time. I just checked and the 2.5 year old 8 I shot last year was on 10/25
  5. your mount is for you. whether you fix a tine, use a different cape, the pose etc all really don't matter if you like it. The idea for me with my taxidermy is to trigger the memory and tell the story and not much more. Maybe the mount might mean something to your kids, but after that it's just a dead animal with no story. don't overthink it.
  6. that's good to hear. I know a lot of people who support hunting of "some" animals and not all, so that's why I asked. Especially when we get into some of the more majestic and rare megafauna and those that we don't always eat like some birds, coyotes and fox.
  7. yep. probably the wrong spot to post dead deer pics as I know it's hard to keep up and many are just skimming for pics.
  8. I lost my uncle late last week from bone marrow cancer as well. He fought long and hard and he's no longer suffering. Service is tonight, but I always do my best thinking, remembering and praying in the woods. That will be Friday.
  9. i should clarify. those are 2 different bucks of seasons past. just adding some color to our dead zone discussion. still holding all my 2019 tags
  10. not necessarily. a good mature healthy buck could survive a single lunger. still unlikely and almost certain to be a difficult to impossible recovery. but possible. https://www.bowhuntingmag.com/editorial/tactics_bh_whitetail_0409/310895
  11. yeah idk. i guess we've both said our part. I don't recall ever seeing a void between the spine and hide when skinning the deer and know plenty of deer that have survived a single lung wound. I guess this is just another one of those controversial topics. but i will agree with you, it's fascinating
  12. curious. have you found any of these folks who were obviously not raised around hunting culture but looking to get into deer hunting have issues with some of the other dead critters on the walls?
  13. the sad thing is that everything he shoots from here on out will be a disappointment haha. how not?
  14. there absolutely is a no kill zone though. every deer target and text book illustrates it and countless hunters have experienced, otherwise it wouldn't matter how high the shot was. spine or lung would be lethal and it's just not the case. And to the pic that was posted, that appeared to be a fawn. Obviously the older and bigger the deer, the larger the gap.
  15. Sorry if this was already posted and I didn’t see it https://www.rochesterfirst.com/news/local-news/oakfield-bow-hunter-bags-a-potentially-record-breaking-buck/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. right. below the spine. so i was thinking the "non-dead" zone between vitals and spine. i think we're saying the same thing or i'm confused
  17. my cousin just got one and while only low 40's she said it was a game changer. forget the brand. starts with a p i think.
  18. isn't that what we're talking about? The only thing above the spine is skin and fur. you wouldn't get an arrow covered in fat above the spine.
  19. no doubt that it's not the best edge, but i think its the most efficient for what 90% of us need. if you're a hardcore knife guy, there are other options for sure.
  20. work sharp. one of the best christmas gifts i've ever had
  21. you really should try and hang your deer inside when at all possible anyhow. I think it was this site where a guy had raccoons eat at his hanging deer? In general it's just a much better controlled environment considering you'll be eventually eating it. keep the sun, bugs and rain off the meat. i know not everyone is fortunate to have the ability to do this, but just stating. As a libertarian, f#ck what the gov't has to say about what and how I live my life though.
  22. for you sausage and jerky guys. LEM has a 25% sitewide flash sale right now!
