    i wonder what the percentage of hunters in the woods after 10/1 are dedicated small game hunters, not including birds.

    as others have mentioned, some don't field dress for various reason. Heck your local butcher will tell you how they get the "whole deer" in sometimes haha. Generally the sooner you get the stuff that puffs and bloats out the better. It also allows for better cooling of the meat and most importantly for most... a lot less weight to drag out. All that said, so long as its not gut shot I don't see the issue, but generally sooner is better.

    i bow hunted and pheasant hunted darien lake. some of the best bow hunting area was over on the edge of the fields where the deer hunters avoided because of the bird hunters... and the deer knew that. What's funny is that i often saw pheasant being pushed to me while bow hunting haha.

    While I agree that people need to and should be aware of what's going on around them, the onus is really on the hunter to be aware of others. I don't hunt much public land anymore, but I have done quite a bit in the past. I've never felt that I had any more right to be there than a bird hunter or dog walker. It is what it is and I've always felt it was on me to reduce any risk a non-hunter would face. Even if someone puts a deer costume on their lab, I would hope we're all good enough to recognize and verify the target and not shoot at it.

    Sports generally go on in the background for me. I watch bits and pieces of Yankees games over the summer, but mostly just have it on in the garage while i'm out there tinkering. Similar for college football games. I am a diehard bills fan though. A Sunday afternoon in the fall on my ass usually fits right in for me. I might hunt the morning which means I'm tired and I bust my ass at work, the gym and around the house all week long and all Saturday. So I never feel guilty with couch time on Sunday, in fact my mind and body need it. I generally don't watch the NBA. Several reasons, the knicks have sucked for a long time now and I just don't feel like there's a lot of competition. I do love watching cuse hoops though. I generally wont miss any ACC games.

    I support all hunters, but i don't fully understand the small game hunter in the deer woods. Not against it, just don't fully understand.

    there are no state laws forbidding this that i know of, but there may be local/park regulations. Scumbag? no. Brilliant? no.

    exactly. love my summit, but it's a good reminder for all of us who use them that not every tree is climber friendly. too big, too small, branches, very had wood or bark that easily peels/falls off, slanted etc. lol it's a wonder we find good climber trees at all haha.

    i like the pull up ropes that have the clasp at the end. tie it around a cam or limb and clasp to the rope. I only use this on my climber and not the hang ons. for exactly the reason you mentioned.

    there is truth to this too. If you have the land, the time and the research you want to kill the nomad does or the ones who bed in other areas. Leave your home does alone.

    i've also had some sphincter puckering moments on very hard and smooth trees when slick from dew/frost/rain.

    any of the free and clear stuff is fine. also make sure there aren't any uv brighteners.

    2 reasons. 1. Most of us are still humans. Many of us fathers and mothers. So, despite how macho some of you act, it's not super easy to willingly end the life of a doe with a fawn. What mother nature does in a couple weeks or so is out of our control. Let me know when you're gutting a big breeder in december during mz and a fawn comes up and starts crying at you. That is one of my worst hunting memories. 2. Many don't shoot doe early pre or during during rut because local does are better bait than anything else out there.

    Made it out Friday evening for a beautiful sit, especially compared to the first 2 morning where it rained on me. Still can't hear the deer moving through the wet ground but had shots at a doe with a fawn and this 7. I'm happy to have had some action. Saturday night the in-laws watched our kids so the wife and I stayed up drinking and some other extracurricular activities. So needless to say I didn't make it out Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon I was too busy with football and chores.

    not only vandalism, but when you tamper with something that could injure or kill, you're now at a whole new level. Get some cams out man. even cheap ones and put them all over. You have some serious douchebags to deal with.

    been weird weather. rainy and then unreal heat. hopefully this cold snap helps over the weekend. but it's windy... idk. it's early.

    the idea of not blocking off the path because they'll just go somewhere else is like not locking your doors because they could just break a window. Make it hard on them at lest and if nothing else it sends a message. posted signs are viewed by some as just a suggestion. A big rock, chained off access road or a big tree send another message. One that will help your case when you do catch someone.

    Sneaking out of work early for my first evening hunt. Windy and wrong direction, but it may be my only sit this weekend.

    thinking you might have sliced an artery then. Sometimes lung hits are hard to see, especially if you nicked them up during field dressing. One thing is certain though, he's dead. Congrats!
