  1. would the lack of dmp's and ARs eventually turn that around? Not familiar with the deer in that area.
  2. I've read a ton of King. The dark tower being my favorite books ever and was sorely disappointed in the movie. I've heard good things about IT. The book was great and so was the last movie.
  3. climbers are pretty good for state land.
  4. What's the point of this? I've got a pretty dark sense of humor but peoples lives are lost and ruined... and you post a very, very poorly photo-shopped picture?
  5. This was in the DEC digest for anyone still looking lol High Bear Activity in Eastern High Peaks and Giant Mountain Wilderness: Bears have been very active in approaching hikers and campers around Marcy Dam, Lake Colden, and Feldspar Lean-to in the Eastern High Peaks Wilderness and around Roaring Brook Falls in the Giant Mountain Wilderness. All visitors to these areas are advised to practice proper management of food, trash, and toiletries to prevent negative encounters with bears and creating nuisance bears including
  6. love to see young healthy birds. been such a down few years.
  7. a lot of guys field skin and quarter because they're usually bigger than deer and also they're a bag of jello with nothing to grab on to. I've watched the video above a few times now before i saw you posted it. If i'm successful with a bear and it's not easy to get out to camp where i can take my time, this is what i'm doing.
  8. This is my only non. I like him more than the normal 2.5 8 he probably would have been. I'm going to see if i can find the trail cam pics of the weird 10 from last year. Neither my dad or I could decide if we would shoot him.
  9. that second pictures is pretty funny. you can't see the rope. what'd she weigh?
  10. There are usually some good deals on garmin handhelds throughout the year. I bought a 64ts a few years ago... or maybe 62 i can't remember. Anyhow, it works everywhere and allows you to store waypoints and even routes (because sometimes the gps thinks the quickest way is the straight line up the mountain). It was probably the best $250 i ever spent because hunting the national forest of Mississippi is not a good place to get turned around. It was even better to scout. You use the aerial imagery and topo maps at home to set points you want to check out, load them into the gps and you're good. I'll be in this general area next weekend. As you can see there's not a whole lot of roads to come upon if you get turned around lol
  11. I've always let it fly, but there are some morning where I can smell that coffee pee and really wonder if it was such a good idea lol.
  12. reverse image search doesn't bring up much for additional pics... but i found this. be careful at work http://www.rivermenrodandgunclub.com/babes-of-the-month.html and enjoy.
  13. my money is on buter face. but the view in the pic is just fine.
  14. this is my thought as well, but given the choice i prefer typical. I would be lying if i didn't say the one sided racks dont bum me out a little. There was a huge should be 10 last year on our spot but one side was a giant halo spike. It would have been mountable if it wasn't for that, but weird to mount him. We think he survived but dont have pics this year yet.
  15. My local guy is charging $250 a foot. Includes felt and rings, but seems a little high from what I've seen on some forums which range from the $135-$200. I have no doubt he will do quality work but wonder if anyone has any other options for me? The only real issue I have is that we will leave camp Sunday and I can freeze it just fine at home but would prefer someone sort of close to me in Rochester for drop off on Monday. I don't know how long a frozen bear skin is good for, but I'll be out of town starting Tuesday.
  16. damn man that sucks. Hope workers comp is taking care of you. Let me know if you get stuck, i work on the "other side" and I can give you some good guidance.
  17. can't believe it but i whole heatedly agree with this. But i do think the true issue is that these are "monuments" meant as tribute, not a lesson in the history books. Not many cultures keep their dark history proudly displayed. Having museums to visit and educate like the holocaust museum is good. Having a bronze statue of Hitler in your town square? Not so much. Having spent 2 years in the deep south I never saw an issue with many of these monuments. Most of the folks I knew felt the same (all races). It seems more and more that folks from the north want to tell those backwards southerners what they should think (ie dude from Ohio kills girl in Charlotesville and liberal rag preaches their values to small southern town).
  18. bushnell while not inferior aren't know to be stellar. I like their rangefinders but have had fogging issues with some of their binocs. I have a red-dot bushnell on my turkey gun and it's great. I think they're hit or miss for good value optics.
  19. my companies headquarters are there and I plan to be there in 2 weeks. Hope it's not a mess and hope they do ok! I think Matthew really helped prep anyone who is new in town.
  20. I'll be out for the first time ever in the daks. Just a short trip, headed up thursday morning. Spend some quality family time friday, hunt sat and sunday and back home. More of a chance for some woods mediation than anything, but getting a bear would be one hell of a memory.
