  1. really? I feel like I've still seen it/tasted it in some neck roasts. Just curious why it would cook away in the crock and not on the grill.
  2. yeah I guess a knife and lighter, food and years of woodsmanship are way to techy... The only electronic I rely on is my gps and even then I have a compass and cell as a backup.
  3. what gps were you using? i've never had an issues with my garmin 64st. even in ravines with no cell reception. plus, your lack of flashing man! haha
  4. $320 is a great deal on that american. Still waiting for mine to get setup.
  5. was reading the manual that came with my new vx3 last night. They recommend just water and a cloth or for stubborn stains to use rubbing alcohol.
  6. most of us probably hunt pretty small tracts. anything sub 200 isn't anything to worry to much about. You get to a road and you're good. I hunt public land down south. 200k acres, still plenty of roads but nothing to joke about, even more concerning when you're off your path and tracking and trying to get the game out as easy as possible is where my gps comes in handy. Less about getting loss, more about saving time and effort.
  7. i use that exact same recipe for neck roasts. only way i'll eat the neck. sometimes i do grind it. i'm not as picky about silver skin in grind.
  8. suited up from waist down. tie my jacket around my waist. gloves and hat in jacket pockets. fanny pack with everything else.
  9. i have a few power bars and candy bars. a gps, extra batteries, a lighter, knife and backup battery charger pack for my phone. Totally prepared to get lost and hope I never do haha
  10. Microfiber cloth for me. A tiny, tiny bit of water on the cloth if there's something stubborn. A few of my scopes have flip up lens covers that help keep them clean in the field too.
  11. well it's a ny hunting website... haha. But I still hunt in NY.
  12. it never wouldn't have come up if growalot hadn't brought it up. When someone where's a gps watch with a sunrise and sunset timer they're going to be poked at from time to time. it's sort of like calling out super religious nuts when they get divorced.
  13. well everywhere online is sold out and nobody carries it locally of 168gr. which I believe is what I'd like. Don't want to site her in with a load I cant find.
  14. wow, I know I said price wasn't a big deal but those barnes aren't cheap. I guess it's still nothing compared to $20 a box lightfields but still.
  15. how do you guys load your bags of corn? those are what really kill my back.
  16. Colorado must charge an arm and a leg. low numbers and most income.
  17. my getting up there in years father just bought a winch dealy thing that hooks on to his hitch. i busted his balls about it, but it sure would be nice for a big bruiser. So i told him just stick to small doe and he wouldn't need it. i think he got it from sportsmans guide.
  18. i'd prefer not to skin anything in the field. the drag and gut and hunt are usually enough for me. Plus the sooner you skin the sooner you expose everything. A lot of ticks will fall off rather quickly after death.
  19. isn't barnes copper only? I've heard different things about copper over the years. some good some bad. other than environmental, what are the pros?
  20. i can not speak to the longevity of this grinder as it's only going on the second season and 4 deer, but it's well built and has great reviews. I double grind and grind pieces well over what they recommend and it hasn't bucked on me once. keep your plates and your wheel matched, clean it good and place the parts in the freezer before grinding and you'll be happy. http://www.amazon.com/STX-INTERNATIONAL-STX-3000-TF-Turboforce-Attachment/dp/B0012KJBR0/ref=sr_1_5?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1449165544&sr=1-5&keywords=meat+grinder if i was to do my vac sealer over again i'd buy one with a bag holder and cutter on it. There was some good black friday deals but my sealer for $80 still works just fine and I couldn't justify it.
  21. there is of course also just bad meat no matter how careful. Hogs are a lot like this. Sometimes you get lucky and other times you don't regardless of how careful you are.
  22. There are some 200 yard pokes where I hunt. Ideally I'd prefer something with more knockdown power, expansion then I would with anything being a fraction more accurate over 200 yards. But truth be told, majority of the shots will be under 60. yeah i'm with you. it really is inconsequential and I get that. There's a chance someday I head out west and would prefer to be GTG though. I really don't want to spend $200 in ammo either if one of the first loads I try is accurate I'll be happy.
