Governor Announces Support for Crossbows in NY

Those are sharpshooters in one very small part of the state and should in no way influence this bill, just like ARs don't fit statewide. -
Governor Announces Support for Crossbows in NY

I distinctly remember you saying you were going to be using it last year on 10/1. Good luck in your hunt this year. -
I used to live in Alden. We seemed to be in the perfect spot to always get "a little more" than our neighbors. Fun times! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Looks like you're going to get some serious snow in the southern part of Erie. Good luck guys Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

The disgruntled hunter -Deer and Deer Hunter article

Studies proving and disproving theories are always hard to buy 100%. With wild animals there are just too many variables. If the moon phase happens to coincide with the first freeze you'd believe it was the moon, when in fact it could have been the temp... Or both. Idk, I hunt because I enjoy it, and if you can hunt enough you'll be able to tell the rut is on. I guess I'm fortunate where I do not need to provide a lot of notice to when I'm taking time off and I understand this isn't the case for many. And until there's 100% proof in one way or the other, people will try their damnedest to take the right week off of work. And I don't blame them -

Not sold on any one thing to predict rut. I'm going to hunt as much as I can and try to take vacation late October early November or when I see activity pick up. I don't believe it's tied to any one thing but to a few things that need to come into place and then they know it's time to get it on. -
False, he's already been there twice this week for returns and was upset to not see any decent end of season clearance items. The next poster would shoot a nice tasting doe instead of the old gnarly 12 point stranding next to her. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

True, but he's a little tipsy. So is the next poster.

Have the money, now I have to choose…
Five Seasons replied to CuseHunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I'd spend more on your scope then on your gun. Most rifles will shoot pretty straight. Most scopes are not created equal. -
Congrats Joe. You have some sweet snow camo

I'll have to read it when I get a chance. Some areas... Over populated and you can't hunt. Places where you can? No deer. Supply and demand. -
We were never well off, but to this day we've always had lobster or king crab. It was a once a year thing. Just finished eating, little early this year because my parents will be out of town.

You replied to my comment regarding rear sights. Moving on...
-
You play devils advocate more than anyone I've ever met. I can occasionally make a half court shot. But that doesn't make it ok for me to take that shot on every possession. All myself and others have been trying to say over and over, is that they're low probability an ill advised because of the greater risk of wounding. Gut shots are fatal, should I aim for the guts now on?
-
I was not wondering why there were not rear sights, it was a shock to me... And I guess I'll admit to being uninformed on the subject, that people hunt deer with what is essentially a bird barrel. Everyone I know has a scope and the last guy I knew that hunted with iron sights was my now deceased Korean War vet grandfather. So couple piss poor shooting and hunting with the least accurate choice of firearm and I found the video very sad.
-
My comment was regarding the video. You replied to the comment without even watching the video? Do I have that right? How can you criticize what I wrote without understanding what I was writing about?
-
I don't remember saying that it was impossible or wrong. All I said was that it decreases your accuracy. Did any of you watch that video? Are you really defending it? The kid shoots at a sprinting deer running at him! If this site wants to defend teens with cameras attached to their smooth bore pump guns shooting at running deer multiple times and planning these drives like its a military assault, hooting and hollering while their buddies push within sight and they flail away... then I'm at a loss. I'll keep hunting out of my stand with my rifled slug gun and scope and take high probability shots. You all can continue to hunt how you choose.
-
Agreed, the problem is when inexperienced hunters push the limits of their skill and weapons. Probably applies most to bow hunters.
-
Not at deer. All scopes. While I agree iron sights are better for running deer, smooth bore slug guns are the least accurate long gun you can hunt with. I'm not putting them down, but that whole whooping and hollering and horrible shooting bothers me. Again, mostly because it's filmed and posted.
-
I stopped watching after the second drive. What an embarrassment to hunters. That one kid shot head on. Did he even have rear sights? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Pm him for pics of the 8 he shot this year. I'm still waiting for them myself. And we know his camera works because he posted his pile of nuisance permit kills. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I missed that too. Actually now I change my position a little on the safety of this, although I'm still not going to freak about it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Shooting at any human should be your last resort because of all the obvious risks, including in innocent bystanders. Any cop can explain this to you. Had he not shot these deer I'm sure they would have attacked and killed his family. What an asinine analogy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Mendon or Rush property
Five Seasons replied to aasapper21's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
Never hurts to ask but that part of the state probably has some of the most posted and managed property around. Close proximity to the city and big deer. Lot of high priced and taxed land too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
