2013 HNY Gun Hunting Harvest Thread
Five Seasons replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
wish i could claim one of these as my own, but cannot. Some very nice bucks taken by my family, including what I would consider a once in a lifetime buck on opening day.- 35 replies

Thanks Paul. I was just curious given the biblical names. I meant nothing bad by the question. Sounds like a great place.

Where did I condone the activity? Let them know how you feel and sever hunting ties. The debate is whether you turn them in or not. Would you call the cops if you found your kid smoking pot or drinking underage, or handle it on your own? I just don't see how some of you don't see the difference...
-
family is family. That's blood. There is a difference and I don't see the double standard. However, a good lifelong friend can fall into the same category.

and was it for shooting a small doe and not tagging it or something else? I have to admit, reading the threads on this forum and opinions of certain members over the last year, i'm not surprised to see who is on which side of this argument. why do you only get a ticket for speeding and jail for murder? come on don't be silly. There are varying levels of crimes. you people crack me up. If that happens you're then charged with vehicular manslaughter. You can't send someone to jail for speeding, but we do realize if not controlled the consequences can be severe and exactly why we enforce speeding with pretty severe fines. A big enough speeding ticket might even result in loss of a licensee. I think some of you would lock someone up if their dog sh!t on your yard and they didn't clean it up. You might want to do some research on how overcrowded and how much of a tax burden our prison system is. I wonder if bubba will register is assault rifles, and never carry more than 7 rounds. If he does, we better call the cops on him. what's your point? All I was saying is that you can legally shoot a lot of deer, or you could shoot 2 bucks in one season and be a poacher. Shooting a lot of deer does not mean you're a poacher. That was my point.

crazy mass. great buck.
-
good lord. how'd they even get it on the 4 wheeler? lol.
-
shooting that close to your coup isn't cool. However I wouldn't exactly get all bent out of shape at shooting at 6:45. Plenty of light then.
-
No but he is the only one who actually said he had called the authorities on his family... Saying you might and actually doing are very different. Especially when you're put on the situation yourself.
-
My opinion is that's how you handle family situations. Bubba would have sent him to jail.

Some lessons learned here. It happens. Do you have any mentors? Curious, how much time? Gut shot time should be no less than 4 hours.

I totally would have shot that buck too but yes he would have been a sight to see next year. -
Both. There is no "tell" and that includes the myth that they seek water.

Depending, sometimes neighboring pressure can help. The deer will figure out where they can stay safe. Especially the mature ones. Come gun season I don't mind my pumpkin ground/still hunting neighbors. I have several nice 8's I owe to that.
-
That sucks. How people mistake hunters for deer, even without orange amazes me. Perhaps this was an actual murder over something?
-
Oh come on joe, there's poachers in all walks of life. I know some meat hunters who shoot over 5 deer and tag them all. I know some bow hunters who put tags on 2 nice bucks with bow. Poaching is poaching.
-
Come on dude. I'm not condoning illegal hunting, but these are game laws, it's not like they're robbing, raping, murdering or selling drugs... While still wrong they're not harming anyone.
-
Most people track... I think you meant tracking a wounded deer. However ill still say that flailing away isn't ideal either at the best you miss or waste some good meat. At the worst your follow up shot is low probability and could wound a deer that had been clean missed.

Lost hunter or someone fell out of a stand would be my bet
-
I'm sure you're just venting, but this is a family matter not one for the interwebs...
-
Great story, congrats!

One of the worst years hunting weather wise in recent memory. Warm and windy bow. Warm opener and now wind. Passed on some small bucks today and yesterday, and a lot of doe. Family did real well. Pics to come.

Porn? Haha -
This heat sucks. I got stir crazy so I got down for lunch. Sweated like a pig and now I'm back in the stand with only 2 layers and no gloves. Feels like bow season
