  1. glad you didn't overreact. At this point it's just a light harded jab and an ongoing joke. Like i've said, whatever works for you is what you should do. I bought the climber specifically for some state land when I lived in Buffalo. Allowed me to hunt more instead of driving back to Ontario every weekend. Not a fan of climbers... plus mine was cheap.
  2. it's interesting because up until last week on the 2 cams I have on the 5 acres I've had a big mature doe, I mean a real freaking donkey and 2 younger doe, 5 fawns and a spike. I had been seeing them all spring and summer. Then last week I get a nice 8 point, a funky 5 and possibly more doe. The hundreds of pictures of the does show nothing like that, so it's hard for me to figure if she's a new doe who's injured or one of the other doe at a funny angle or even possibly new injury. I do believe if it's an injury that it's an old one though.
  3. the hardest part for me has always been the death roll. Depending on where you're hunting you may rarely if ever even see it. For me my very first kill was in a hedgerow of a field and the buck died in the field. Death roll and all. Since i've done a few executions that weren't fun either. Once the deer is dead, other than the stink the gutting isn't even really that big of a deal. It's the life escaping and ending aspect that is hardest.
  4. I have a small 5 acre parcel behind my house with some great feed, a bunch of doe and some bucks floating in and out so I put up a stand and a few cams. I've seen most of the doe just hanging out in my backyard eating apples (some funny pics on the cam with apples in their mouths) and never noticed any injuries in person, but this pic looks a little funny and was wondering what you guys thought? Injury, illness or funny angle?
  5. very clever! Be sure to be careful hunting in areas with your clothes that do not have pines, you'll introduce something foreign and they'll know it.
  6. Did he have a sign hanging out on his bed? something like: This is Bob the 8 point's Bed Please Remove Your Shoes My dumbest thing? New to climbers and going to high without a small enough loop, when getting down i couldn't get the bottom to grip and when my upperbody strength finally gave out I ended up sliding down 15' or so bear hugging the tree. Still have some red marks on my stomach from where it ripped my skin... 3 years ago.
  7. growing up I saw a lot of deer hanging before I ever saw one shot or gutted. I think a gutted deer is a good start to introducing a young person. And you need to be able to judge the kid. If you start them out to early, it might turn a certain type of person off for good. Personally I didn't see a deer shot or gutted till I was 14... but that was just me. The death of a large animal can be tough for an 8 year old.
  8. don't forget that they did take away, what some believe was the best weekend of bow. Then took 3 years to give us 2 more weeks of "mosquito hunting". This is a good point that can be said for most hunting organizations. This site has it's NYB and QDMA haters, because of stances they take on "hot topics". But truth is, both and most others do more good than harm.
  9. Glad you feel you can speak for all of us. I'm not envious, but I respect what he does. In fact I thought about canoeing across the pond at my camp in the dacks because I know most people are too lazy to. It's a pretty cool adventure if you ask me.
  10. how did they mess with your video? I find it funny that you're wearing a ny t-shirt if you're in NJ. Cool footage man!
  11. i read this proposition in yesterday's email from NYB... who remain nuetral. I still don't know how I feel. The 1 buck tag I certainly disagree with. I would prefer to be able to take 2 bucks with bow if I could. I wouldn't have an issue with shortened gun season. I think it might even make the season a little more fun. Kind of like a holiday... Part of me starts to think I'm in favor of ARs for bow, but then I wake up and I remember about how much harder it is than gun, I couldn't imagine doing that. How would you ever get a kid to fall in love it? "Jimmy, you need to get the buck within 25 yards undetected and he needs to stop broadside... oh and it can't be a small buck. Don't let him catch you draw!" what a joke... Another option is to earn a buck by shooting a doe first. but I would hate the fact that some doe would be left to rot by the horn hunters. I'm a horn hunter and would have no problem shooting a doe and putting her in the freezer, and i believe i'm in the majority but not everyone thinks that way. i know of guys who don't even eat venison. They give it away and keep the racks.
  12. careful, one time I said the same about squirrel hunters and I think the world was going to come down on me here. But I will say it's the guy who decides to chainsaw, atv, some loud activity not to far from my stand. they are so angry. I wish I could shoot little xanax darts at them.
  13. had my shirt tail cut. First year hunting. Shot at a running deer. Haven't missed since. Happened to my cousin too.
  14. 1st... wtf happened to that doe? lol. secondly, I have really no issue with the pic... at one point or another we all have deer laying there like that. I would not however, use that as my "text my friends/facebook/forum" pic. I don't see the point. If it's a doe... i'm probably not even taking pics. Take some field shots real quick to send to your other hunting buddies in the woods. But I think you should take the time to take some good ones too.
  15. according to my avatar i'm elite that's cool though, didn't know that.
  16. yeah... doe tags.... that's a great pic. My wife's interested in duck, goose and turkey but not sure about deer. I think it's best to start out with small game.
  17. i would be excited about your turkeys... not so sure about the deer. most of your pics seem to be younger deer. are they being hunted heavily on your boarders?
  18. nothing wrong with exit and entrance holes. My personal preference though is to clean up the muzzle (especially lung kills), hide the tongue and cover the gaping hole in his or her belly. Again, just my preference. Not a fan of deer piled up either. Several hanging in a tree with guys next to them is fine, but something about the pile does bother me. *gets down off pedestal*
