  1. ditto to all of this. pushing has its place and many good memories for me when i just started out
  2. barrel length? banna clip that could catch on stuff. grasping at straws i know.
  3. i dont know about lazy. there's a legitimate dump site in Tully off of 81. like.. that's where they're told to dump them. and i rarely see a dead deer for longer than a week. especially in the more populated areas. but i do see them capped pretty early haha.
  4. maybe i missed your point. when you said an overwhelming majority chose big government i was referring to the recent elections popular vote results. maybe i misunderstood.
  5. the correct word is "know". you only need a hunting class and bow and if you bought your sportsman/super you'd get all 3. they have made a condensed course to combine the 2 recently. look for times on the dec website.
  6. antler insanity is a great app for those with an iphone. mark your stands live wind cones. even gps to get to your stand if you get lost.
  7. as Ron White said... "you can't fix stupid"
  8. that sucks but it is kind of funny. No back plate either? for some reason i never liked mounts without the wood plate or whatever it's called.
  9. only thing i hate about pushing is that you may push to the "other guy" and you put pressure on where they may not come back in to bed for a few days. But if you're freezer's empty. Push! haha
  10. ha. well that's not your typical AR either . couldn't use the bipod in my treestand anyhow. . Still think a .308 is a better round though if you had to choose.
  11. problem i have with backtags is that it makes noise when my back is against the tree. i also take my orange vest off in the tree and put it on when i get down which then covers the tag. i only hunt private land where i walk out the back door. I've always had a license and tagged all my deer. I keep it in my fanny pack unless i'm on some unknown land. I dont really care and if some of you think it's a huge deal then please explain.
  12. you can hide them pretty good. At worst it's a $100 lost. A good trick is to bring a ladder put it higher up in the tree angled down. They wont be able to reach it. shoot, i bet with a good video clip you may even be able to prosecute for some sort of attempted murder charge. Dude could have died.
  13. 51 to 49 is not really overwhelming. just got real political up in here
  14. i wouldn't recommend it, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work. What you're using is an assault rifle designed for mid range confrontation. Notice snipers do not use these, they use rifles with good scopes and better ergonomics for a single accurate shot vs multiple. again, they will work but I think you can do better for a deer gun.
  15. did they see you? did you confront them? unless you were worried about your safety it doesn't hurt to let them know what they're doing isn't cool.

    500' ?

google earth measuring tool. so easy a caveman could do it.
  17. good lord people i'm not arguing anything against shooting safely. The only point I disputed was that about shotguns vs rifles and ricochets vs uninterrupted projectiles. Any firearm can be dangerous in the wrong hands, we all know that. My parents live 3 minutes from the Ontario gun club and I live about 10, I took my safety courses there and my father was once a member. Very familiar with it. When I lived in Alden I belonged to the alden rod and gun club as well. There was a club down the street that had limited hours and calibers because of a similar incident. Bring in the right members and have the right sized berms in place to begin with and you avoid both situations.
  18. thanks guys. definitely not hunting for pelts to make money, but would sell them if i can. Mostly hunting because they've exploded in my area and if I shoot a big one a menacing mount would be cool!
  19. i'm sure someone mentioned it, but you dont have to use loose powder, you can buy pellets. I wouldn't jam them down there either. A trick my dad gave me is to mark your rod with a line so that you know when your barrel reaches the line that the powder and bullet is where it should be. You should always clean your gun as soon as possible. If you do need a second shot not cleaning will not greatly affect your shot.
  20. Yeah I currently dont own a centerfire rifle as everywhere I dear hunt is shotgun only and someday I may want to hunt black bear at my parents cabin near Racquet lake so I was thinking just a 308 or 30-06. I know that's overkill for a coyote, but it helps expand my arsenal to hunt more game. Was wondering if anyone used slugs in their rifled barrel shotgun? I dont see getting a shot >150yards where I'd hunt.
  21. What are you guys using? This will be my first year purposely going after them. A buddy bought an electronic call and decoy and we're just going out for the fun of it. I have killed one with a bow during dear. I've heard anything from buck shot to 30-06 and even .22. thanks in advance
  22. i dont want to derail another thread. but potential to go farther does not mean it's more dangerous? Let me break it down because i guess i'm not being clear. made up numbers for arguments sake rifle - travel 500 yards shotgun - (according to your studies potential to go farther) 600 yards would you not say a bullet that could travel farther is more dangerous as it can cover more ground? Lets keep going. Your stand is 550 yards from a school. Your rifle (using made up numbers for arguments sake) cannot hit the school, but your shotgun can. So sorry if I inferred by your statement that it was more dangerous. If I misunderstood the point of your post, explain it to me please.
