  1. ugh it's all lost on you. "just as easy" was meant in reference to the probability of a ricochet killing someone vs a stray bullet fired into a field or over a hill, not the ability of it to kill. I'm not sure there could ever be an accurate study to prove which is more likely to hit a human but I cant image a ricochet which can ricochet into the ground, backwards or into the sky on an almost infinite number of vectors would have a greater probability than an uninterrupted bullet on a straight trajectory.
  2. what's odd is that i've never ruined any meat with a double lung shot... my point was they teach you to aim for the target with the highest probability and stopping power. 1, you dont like me because i spend an hour on my saturdary morning relaxing and shooting zombies in my living room? I'm a horrible person without a good job and family because of this? 2. We can talk snipers too, ask how many head shots they're trained to take when a vital shot is also present 3. sounds like you're a bad shot. I've shot plenty of deer and never shot one in the ass. Worst I had was my first bow kill (at 20 yards) that was guts but was lucky enough to nick an artery. Have a missed outright? sure. twice. happens. this is what i tell most new bowhunters. practice is great and still greatly encouraged but there's nothing that can prepare you as a bowhunter for that 10 point walking out and giving you a broadside shot. knees wobbling, chest thumping, sphincter tightening haha
  3. I have noticed about the same activity as last but my group overall had an off year. Plenty of does and small buck opportunities but not many nice shooters. My wife and I just had our first in August so my time and standards were limitied. I hunted a total of 9 times and could have shot at least a doe 7 of those times. I took a 5 early with bow and a 6 early with gun weighing 150 and 130 respectfully so I'm happy enough.
  4. ha. I meant that they can kill, but not just as easy. that's what you get for typing before coffee.
  5. they sure can kill just as easy, and no i dont believe they kill "just as easy".
  6. i was born and raised catholic. went every sunday. Now that I'm out on my own i rarely find myself there but I still pray at night. I've always found some of my best times with God have been in the morning when the sun is coming up sitting in the stand. I've always made it a habit to thank him and the deer for their life too. I dont care how long you've hunted or how many animals you've killed if you dont feel something when taking the life of such a great animal you're in the sport for the wrong reasons.
  7. pshhh ricochet... please... You know very well that's not a concern in 98% of areas
  8. i'm not a fan of even neck shots but i'm not against them. i suppose if you miss the neck you miss outright vs missing in the vitals and wounding. However, head shots really aren't cool and honestly they greatly reduce your odds. They teach police to aim for vitals and not the head for a reason. You're playing too many videogames.
  9. Use a real bow. EDITED. NO CURSING
  10. 1st he was in the bar parking lot, not his house 2nd yes you can. happened to my friend.
  11. just remember you cant go to dicks or gandermountain and shop for all bows. i suggest you shop at a few stores as some brands like matthews aren't sold at the big box stores and for a reason. find a few local shops.
  12. i didn't. but who cares? I know it's the rules and you've never seen me post anything offensive and never will but I've seen the tone and morality of both your posts in various threads discussing various topics over the past few months and you both strike me as high and mighty, preachy and the type of people I'd assume write letters to the makers of South Park for offending you. that's all. lets not derail this thread and agree to disagree on "what's a big deal, and what's not"
  13. please link to said study because i call BS
  14. clip the end off a coat hanger and tie it to the pull up rope. its perfect.
  15. oh geez only problem i see with this is shooting at the deer in the tree. we all miss. hard imagine missing a big ass bear though, however i didn't catch the distance. spend some time at the range my friend and it'll help when the nerves are up.
  16. was a little surprised to see it still there and that explains it. I'd just cap it and leave it be.
  17. just make sure you unload your gun before you get into the truck and i think maybe even public roads? not sure on the roads. maybe someone can chime in
  18. i should post pics of my little pieces of metal 35' in the air, haha.
  19. if the winds in your favor and/or there's a hot doe around, you can spray deer off on yourself and still be successful. I just view it as increasing my odds.
  20. good point about movement and fair enough. if you're a larger individual then you dont have a lof of options and are still in the tree vs being in a blind you're still ok in my book
  21. i see your angel but disagree. i think it shows more dedication to say no to the drink the night before so that you're not napping and clear headed when a shot does present itself. The hunting camp thing is common. i know guys that go to camps and never hunt, it's a social thing. for us it's always been the night of opening day. we all hunt then go back and have tons of food, watch some football and drink some beers while hopefully looking at some deer hanging. some of us have just a few and retire early to hunt the next day. In fact i've killed more deer sunday then on saturday. just so you know, if your keys are on you whether you're in the back and they're in your packet or in the ignition you can still get a dwi. I dont make the laws but you should know this.
  22. i use the scentlok bags. Honestly i was at the point once where I used scent free chapstick, mouthwash and toothpaste underwear and socks and when you think about it, you're really getting ridiculous. As long as you wash your stuff, use the soap and deodorant and are cautious on where you store your stuff you're going to be fine. I know guys who store their boots in the garage and the cars will stink those up real quick.
  23. love my scoped gammo single pump .177 thing is deadly
