  1. he is doing much better this season then he did last season but then he was only 7 months old I don't give my dogs treats for doing there job i do give him lots of affection witch he enjoys getting he stating to enjoy the retives more each time we go out
  2. took a ride with the dog just to do some scouting. First stop i'm looking right Dog is looking left and winning I look and there is about 12 Brant just starting to lift off the water took two shot dropped my one Brant sent the Dog to retrieve did a nice job this was his first Brant picked it up and brought it right to me he is getting better with each hunt

I had tongue once years back old guy i meet made it in a stew told me how to do it you need to clean it by removing the out side later off of it then dive it up place in salt water for two days remove it wash with fresh warm water the dice it up in to cubs cook in beef brother add your vegtbuls simmer for three hours add your spices let it sit on the side for 15 minuets then serve

  10. I hunt with a Hawkins 50 cal i use round ball and patch with FFF-G gor-x powder 90 grands I also have a 45 Hawkins that i use round ball and patch with i use FF-G gor-x powder 50 grans this i use mostly at the range
  11. use a rabbit call I find the best time is early morning or 1/2 hour before sunset
  12. I took him out for a bit today hes getting the idea I got spoiled with my first Lab OZ he was a natural loved to hunt swim and retrieve every thing The pup is a little slower but I know he will pick it up in time he listens well and is starting to get it
  13. I have an old 311-A Steven's and its a grate gun for up land hunting a gun that made to be used and one your going to enjoy shooting

The dog did OK he did not mark the bird we had to show him were it was once he saw then he locked on and retrieved all birds one was a dubble and he did good on he like to hold the birds and when we try and take them he gets a little up set I just hold on the bird and talk to him he then lets go I think he will make a good retriever but its going to take time he is nothing like my old dog OZ but then they are two diffident dogs I'll be going out this coming week and hoping he keeps learning
  15. when i stared to shoot my Hawkins I had no idea what i was doing I meet an old timer and he showed me how to shoot also how to clean my gun to this day i never have any problems with it This is what he told me to do 1] poor boiling water down the barrel 2] mix these three things together for cleaning my gun 1] Hadrginporxcide 2 ]Murphy oil soap 3] rubbing alcohol in equal amounts use this to clean your gun when your done cleaning run one patch with Remington gun oil on it down the barrel my gun is always clean never has any rust on it or pitting

Guys i like my beard just the way it is have it on my face for close to 37 years now the gray shows the years that i am very proud of from over 35 years of hunting and working hard and the hat was made by a very dear friend of mine and i like hunting with it i also ware it when i am duck hunting wish every one here a very happy and peaceful hunting year may Santa treat you all well this season Papabear
  17. went up for a four day hunt I did have a grate time hunted from Friday afternoon till Monday afternoon I saw that back end of 1 bear walking away but did not get any deer into shooting range for the first time in 23 years a sat in a tree stand with my wight and very bad knees it was always hard to get into the this was a lader stand that had a wight limet of 500 lbs as i was safe it was good sitting 15 feet up in the stand looking over the land also this was the first time i was on a 4 wheeler it help me get deep in to the land for scoting and I placed my gun in the rack and my other gear this was a grate week end but my deer season is over i am now ready for the duck hunting
  18. I got out today took the dog this was his first really hunt had him out last season he was only half train not ready to go but today he did a good job retrieved the 6 birds we got as the season goes on he will improve

  21. to me it sounds like a good memory you got to shoot a nice size buck you shot it you don't have the mount bit you have a grate memory of it they have to remember that they stole that deer from you every time they look at that rack it brings back the day there took some thing that was not there's just remember the good hunt when he came by your stand when you took the shot and you killed the deer that's what you remember it was a good hunt
  22. none you see it you can take it there are a few things you should know before you shoot you should wate about 10 minuets to make shore if it a sow she has no cubs with her try and see how are ears are if the big it young if there small and on the side it is a good size bear if you have an idea where it might be mark the trees with some tape or paint one foot apart this will give you an estimated size on the bear also if the eyes look small its should be a nice size bear they can be very tricky to size up Good luck
  23. I bin using Goex FFF-G for my 50 cal Hawkins for 30 years I shoot about 20 rounds from the gun before cleaning it or running a patch down the barrel
  24. you can try putting her i a burlap kennel two wires about 4 feet long bend them into a "U" shape putting the two ends into the ground and zip tying the burlap over them she will be out of site
