  1. The Gov. put a moratorium on this method of drilling until July because he wants the DEC to learn more about it first, like a few months will give them time to study up on it. :
  2. Nope thats a law, as long as you are off the road you are fine, it was discused and spelled out in another thread the other day complete with definitions of roadways and every thing. "Last shooter to shoot the deer gets the deer. period ended." You shoot him in the lungs, he runs by me, and I shoot him in the foot, it's my deer." um, no thats not the way it is and just because a hunter ed instructor says it doesn't make it true. Hell I remember my instructor telling every one you had to be 500 feet from a road to shoot, my old man corrected him and he was so positive he was right he went to the book and was proved wrong in front of every one..haha what a trip that guy was. The best idea would be to try to find it in print where it says if you shoot a deer in the foot after another guy shoots it in the lungs its your's..that I would love to see. And sod if you really don't want to track or lose them shot them through the shoulders and keep shooting until it is down for good.
  3. Its who ever made the killing shot not who ever shoots it last. so if you make a good, fatal shot and it runs by another guy and he shoots it again its still the first guys deer. And I'm not so sure its a actual law either. This case however it was not a fatal shot by the first guy so it is the second guy's deer.
  4. holy crap! We go to a place that is $30 flat rate..any tree any size..$30 and they are great tree's. Of course its way out in the boonies, this coming from a guy who lives in what others consider the boonies.
  5. Do the gas companies plan on paying the DEC to fund all of these studies and the new employees that will no doubt be needed to watch over all of the drill sites?
  6. Really even Haliburton? They are the only ones that had to be issued a subpoena to get the "recipie" of the 1%. Maybe you don't deal with them?
  7. Armcomm, is there anything on the books stipulating where the companies will draw the water from that the use in the process? I have read that alot of it comes from local sources such as streams or lakes.
  8. Why is the EPA just getting started on the research..man the spead of govt. is blinding. Bottom line is this for me...there are alot of unanswered questions that have been posed and given the track record of companies that are involved (Haliburton) and the money grabbing screw em all way that they operate I have little faith that these large companies have our best interest at heart.
  9. The EPA has some info on this and some studies that have been done and info on up coming studies too. http://water.epa.gov/type/groundwater/uic/class2/hydraulicfracturing/index.cfm http://www.epa.gov/safewater/uic/pdfs/hfresearchstudyfs.pdf http://www.epa.gov/ogwdw/uic/pdfs/cbmstudy_attach_uic_ch06_water_qual_incidents.pdf
  10. Wifes old Uroligists name is Harry Slatch..his wife is a OBGYN...swear to god. I know of another DR, his name is Hugh Buttz..we allways joke that he is a proctologist but I really don't know what his specialty is.
  11. Another thing to consider, DEC is in charge of regulating this industry, the same DEC that is crippled with lay offs and no funds to run it effectively. How are they going to make sure we are safe when there is no man power/money to do so.
  12. Craiglsit better add a crossbow section..lol My wifes uncles will be that guy that runs out and buys one and then try's to pawn it off to some one else, he has tried to sell me his 30 year old drunk son's ancient compound for about three years now. I keep telling him I am a lefty and have no use for it but every time I see him I get the same sales pitch. The last one occured at a wake..he is relentless. lol Damn pothead...
  13. I expect a bell curve of sorts, increasing use of them and then people will either toss them aside for compounds or give up on them when they realize its not as easy as gun hunting.
  14. They like to hold off on cutting down the tree's untill they are 6.5 or more years old. You know when they reach full maturity and the branches are all nice and full.
  15. haha me too, its like I am dieing of a rare disease when I get the sniffles... here is some of us at this time of year..
  16. I know, but in the grand scheme of things how many will do the same? I guess there really is no way of knowing until the year after the sales numbers come out.
  17. I keep laughing at the thought of all the rough and tough hunters here wimpering at the thought of stepping on the needles but yet none of us blink an eye over standing out in the woods for hours on end and gutting a deer. haha sissy's! ;D
  18. ...."yet an inclusion of crossbows in archery would put more hunters in the field for a larger portion of the year" I highly doubt that adding a cross bow to archery season will bring in any new hunters or help to retain that many for that matter. It will however entice some gun hunters into archery hunting in my opinion. I also see crossbows affecting gun hunters long term, the more deer they kill in archery season the less doe permits there will be for gunners. Maybe thats the states way of increasing the doe take with out relying on doe permits as the bread winner so to speak of deer take. Not to go off on a tangent but... For all of you that want or dont want Ohio's season...to me this is the first step in that direction. Maybe not, just my opinions.
  19. There are alot of unanswered questions on this and I certainly don't think the rosy picture painted can be trusted. All of this for a resource that will be gone in 50 years...then what do we do? How about the same companies that are reaping Billions in profits each quarter give a little money back to the consumer and figure out a solution to the oil issue, nah..lets just create another way to rape the earth instead and grab a few billion in the process.
  20. "As I stated the industry is willing to disclose all materials to regulators and expects the DEC will demand that. The DEC sets the standards, the industry will comply. The materials will mostly be recovered, some will be absorbed below 5,000 feet" Right so why don't we tell every one what is in that 1%? Go ahead you are the expert. And for the record, I don't want run off from fertilizer in my drinking water either. You offered info based on the fact that your firm represents ANGA, not the fact that you are a hunter.
  21. "It is over 99% water and sand; the rest is common materials also found in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals." Its that 1% that is the problem, 1% of millions of gallons is alot eh? 1% can and has contaminated water in other states. What exactly is in that 1%? Seeing that oil companies are involved should make people wonder, look at the oil leak from last year in Louisiana and how quick the finger pointing started there after the S... hit the fan. I have zero faith in a man that is getting paid to tell me something is ok when he is getting paid by the companies that are out to make a profit at any cost. Lobby some one else, I ain't a politician armcomm.
  22. Real for me. We went out a couple of weeks ago because of schedules and hunting, normally we wait untill this weekend.
  23. I like those guys that eye ball the weight of a deer, never are they close. The scale doesn't lie, thats why we weigh all of our deer.
  24. wait, wait..isn't that how you kill a deer with a gun? I thought I was supposed to swing my gun like a club and render it unconsious and then stab it with my knife. So you are telling me I have been doing it all wrong all these years? damit! As far as the note goes, the hard part is finding a damn notary in the woods. Those guys have excellent camo. LOL
